A unique space, the Nest is a place to unwind after a long walk or day on the beach. Close enough to Dingle to experience all this vibrant town has to offer but far enough away to be able to hear the sea on a quiet night.
The house has a grass roof which provides great insualation in the winter and keeps the place cool in summer.
Plenty of parking and undercover storage for bikes.

The space

Quaint and quirky with up-cycled charm. The Nest is a grass roofed cottage/cabin nestling less than 2 miles from Dingle Town. From the double bedroom you can reach into the conservatory pick flowers and fruit in season. There is an Edwardian feather sofa bed in the living area which is available for an extra guest.
There is a shower room with basin and toilet. The shower has a safety limiter. The emphasis has been on keeping things very simple and rustic. There is a peat burning stove for cosy winter evenings with starter pack of fuel. Wifi is provided. The kitchen area has a full sized cooker and there is a microwave and small fridge. We aim to attract people who enjoy being somewhere different. If you want hotel accommodation this is not the place for you. Please think carefully about this space if you have allegies as it is close to nature.
Dingle Town is two miles away. How long it takes to walk there depends on how fast you walk and who you stop and talk to.
The fabulous and hidden Birnham Lagoon with egrets, herons and otters is just down the road. You can also fish there.
The cottage is a fabulous place for exploring the Dingle Peninsula. Within 20 minutes drive there are great sea food restuarants, mountains, beaches, mythology and Celtic charm. If you want a night out most of the pubs in Dingle have traditional music.
If you want to take taxi - most of the local drivers know The Nest - it's about 8 euros to town.
We run regular writing retreats at The Nest and lots of photographers and artists use it as a working hide away. We even have our own serial story going to which you are welcome to contribute.
We are not responsible for an internet outages caused by supplier or weather conditions.
We are pet friendly but please let us know if you are bringing pets.
Recycling is compulsory in Ireland. Glass must not be mixed with other waste.
It's just The Nest and somewhere to think, muse and restore your soul. As the Irish would say 'A thin place'.

Guest access

You will have the whole appartment to yourselves.

Interaction with guests

We travel between Dingle and England. We are happy to share our extensive knowledge of the area with guests and can point out to them some of the hidden secrets of the area. Sometimes even our friends born and brought up in Dingle don't know about them!

Other things to note

The house can be hard to find in the dark, we recommend guests try to arrive in daylight as the Irish countryside has no street lighting.
Guests are responsible for making sure they have read our listing.

Louise's nest was fab. It's a lovely cosy retreat and not too far from Dingle to walk, however I would not recommend the walk at night as there is no footpath and cars can drive by very fast on the country road. Very good value for money for a couple but not really suitable for a third guest as the couch bed doesn't look very comfortable and is in the main living space. Beautiful area and very close to Ventry and other great spots.

Response from Louise:
We knew from their late check out that these guests hadn't read our listing. They had therefore missed the details of the couch bed which are clearly mentioned in out listing.

The Nest has the perfect location for anyone that likes to be near to a town but, not in it! We found the property straight away following Louise's directions as they were very precise! Nice and private for our stay!

Response from Louise:
We have tested the directions over the years so they are precise. But amazingly some people still seem to drive too fast and miss the turn. Glad it didn't happen to you.

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our stay, it may remain one of our favourite places for how unique as well as convenient and cozy it was. A very short drive to Dingle and great place to stay when thinking of travelling the Ring of Kerry. Highly recommended! -Emilie

Louise was so accommodating, easy to communicate with and overall very friendly. We were provided with everything we needed and we would definitely recommend staying at the nest. Location is great too.

The Nest was very cute and rustic, but might be better for a warmer season. Very good place if you want to hang out in the house and relax. If you want to explore the city centre it is a little bit of a trek!

The house was incredible! I loved the cuteness of it. It was small and charming. I loved the wood fireplace and the greenhouse by the bedroom. Louise made me feel at home and drove me around the peninsula one day so I could see more of Ireland. I really loved my stay and would recommend it to everyone! The only thing I would change/recommend to other people staying here is to bring/rent a car. The walk is a little far into town and the road is rather small (no shoulders) with cars going really fast. But overall an incredible trip and I loved staying there!

I live in England but spend every spare moment in our house in Dingle. We run Writer's Retreats at the house and now want to open it up to other people so they can discover the hidden Dingle we have explored over the past 13 years.
We have a dog, Zip and a 3 legged cat Mimi. Zip loves being taken for walks by guests. I'm a keen walker. My husband Chris, has Parkinson's and has to take things more easily but loves sharing stories with guests. We are both writers and you will often find us working away on our latest projects.
My favourite thing to do in Dingle is fish, and then share what I have caught with other people. I love cooking and there is always a home made cake on the go.
