A unique space, the Nest is a place to unwind after a long walk or day on the beach. Close enough to Dingle to experience all this vibrant town has to offer but far enough away to be able to hear the sea on a quiet night.
The house has a grass roof which provides great insualation in the winter and keeps the place cool in summer.
Plenty of parking and undercover storage for bikes.

The space

Quaint and quirky with up-cycled charm. The Nest is a grass roofed cottage/cabin nestling less than 2 miles from Dingle Town. From the double bedroom you can reach into the conservatory pick flowers and fruit in season. There is an Edwardian feather sofa bed in the living area which is available for an extra guest.
There is a shower room with basin and toilet. The shower has a safety limiter. The emphasis has been on keeping things very simple and rustic. There is a peat burning stove for cosy winter evenings with starter pack of fuel. Wifi is provided. The kitchen area has a full sized cooker and there is a microwave and small fridge. We aim to attract people who enjoy being somewhere different. If you want hotel accommodation this is not the place for you. Please think carefully about this space if you have allegies as it is close to nature.
Dingle Town is two miles away. How long it takes to walk there depends on how fast you walk and who you stop and talk to.
The fabulous and hidden Birnham Lagoon with egrets, herons and otters is just down the road. You can also fish there.
The cottage is a fabulous place for exploring the Dingle Peninsula. Within 20 minutes drive there are great sea food restuarants, mountains, beaches, mythology and Celtic charm. If you want a night out most of the pubs in Dingle have traditional music.
If you want to take taxi - most of the local drivers know The Nest - it's about 8 euros to town.
We run regular writing retreats at The Nest and lots of photographers and artists use it as a working hide away. We even have our own serial story going to which you are welcome to contribute.
We are not responsible for an internet outages caused by supplier or weather conditions.
We are pet friendly but please let us know if you are bringing pets.
Recycling is compulsory in Ireland. Glass must not be mixed with other waste.
It's just The Nest and somewhere to think, muse and restore your soul. As the Irish would say 'A thin place'.

Guest access

You will have the whole appartment to yourselves.

Interaction with guests

We travel between Dingle and England. We are happy to share our extensive knowledge of the area with guests and can point out to them some of the hidden secrets of the area. Sometimes even our friends born and brought up in Dingle don't know about them!

Other things to note

The house can be hard to find in the dark, we recommend guests try to arrive in daylight as the Irish countryside has no street lighting.
Guests are responsible for making sure they have read our listing.

This cottage is a place like no other. It allowed us to get away from the hustle and bustle of travel and relax and decompress. The nature that surrounds the cottage is beautiful and refreshing. We loved it's rustic charm and would recommend to anyone who is laid back and loves a simple, unique environment. Not too far of a drive from the town of Dingle, which is also super neat. Slea Head drive is also beautiful and just a left turn out of the driveway. Highly recommend.

The Nest was exactly as Louise had described it - rustic, secluded and cozy. We arrived in colder than usual summer weather and were welcome to a wonderfully cozy and rustic cottage that was also warm in its embrace of our arrival. We use the kitchen quite often and found it great to work with, even if it is on the small side. The bedroom was very comfortable; the electric blanket was a wonderful find that made our sleep so much more comfortable. We had a 3rd guest sleep on the sofa bed in the living room; she found it absolutely comfortable and cozy. The Nest is situated quite far from town (a 5min drive) so we only walked a short ways in the and around the neighbourhood. That said, our walks are always very scenic and enjoyable. Louise was quite on hand to help us with our concerns, which only was to do with the weak internet signal. We were unable to get a signal except on the last day but Louise tried hard to help us in that matter. All in all, we loved being at The Nest and would consider it again for future trips to Dingle.

Great little secluded spot, we explored all of the Dingle and Kerry Peninsulas from here, a bit ambitious but we had an amazing time. It was great to come back to this quiet little spot and light a fire in the peat stove. It's very close to town so it was easy to get up and drive down to Bean in Dingle for coffee and a pastry in the morning.

I live in England but spend every spare moment in our house in Dingle. We run Writer's Retreats at the house and now want to open it up to other people so they can discover the hidden Dingle we have explored over the past 13 years.
We have a dog, Zip and a 3 legged cat Mimi. Zip loves being taken for walks by guests. I'm a keen walker. My husband Chris, has Parkinson's and has to take things more easily but loves sharing stories with guests. We are both writers and you will often find us working away on our latest projects.
My favourite thing to do in Dingle is fish, and then share what I have caught with other people. I love cooking and there is always a home made cake on the go.
When I am teaching or in rehearsals it may not be possible to respond to you immediately.
