About This Listing
Quaint and quirky with up-cycled charm. The Nest is a grass roofed cottage/cabin nestling less than 2 miles from Dingle Town. From the double bedroom you can reach into the conservatory pick flowers and fruit in season. There is an Edwardian sofa bed in the living area which is available for an extra guest.
There is a shower room with basin and toilet. The emphasis has been on keeping things simple and rustic. There is a peat burning stove for cosy winter evenings. Wifi is provided. The kitchen area has a full sized cooker and there is a microwave and small fridge. We aim to attract people who enjoy being somewhere different. If you want hotel accommodation this is not the place for you.
Dingle Town is two miles away. How long it takes to walk there depends on how fast you walk and who you stop and talk to.
The fabulous and hidden Birnham Lagoon with egrets, herons and otters is just down the road. You can also fish there.
The cottage is a fabulous place for exploring the Dingle Peninsula. Within 20 minutes drive there are great sea food restuarants, mountains, beaches, mythology and Celtic charm. If you want a night out most of the pubs in Dingle have traditional music.
If you want to take taxi - all all the local drivers know The Nest - it's about 8 euros to town.
We run regular writing retreats at The Nest and lots of photographers and artists use it as a working hide away. We even have our own serial story going to which you are welcome to contribute.
There is wifi and a washing machine.
It's just The Nest and somewhere to think, muse and restore your soul. As the Irish would say 'A thin place'.
You will have the whole appartment to yourselves.
Interaction with Guests
We travel between Dingle and England. We are happy to share our extensive knowledge of the area with guests and can point out to them some of the hidden secrets of the area. Sometimes even our friends born and brought up in Dingle don't know about them!
We love early mornings down at the lagoon watching the bird life.
The changing light on Mount Brandon enchants us as the sun is setting.
The Nest has it's own parking.
There is no public transport to The Nest but town is less than 2 miles away so walkable or a quick taxi.
We expect you to leave The Nest as you found it. It is in the countryside so please expect birds and animals to be close at hand and local paths to be muddy after rain.
Our stay at Louise's was great. It was exactly as described and a rustic and quiet getaway while still being super close to get into Dingle town. Louise was also quick to respond when I messaged her before our trip which was convenient in trying to plan.
Nice, private cottage. We had a fair bit of difficulty finding the place, but managed in the end. We also had some issues accessing laundry, as Louise was away. The space is unique, interesting and we'll situated for exploring the peninsula. The bed was moderately comfortable and the kitchenette convenient.
Really enjoyed staying at The Nest. The fire was lit upon arrival which was a lovely touch. A cosy place with lots of character and charm. The perfect setting for our trip to Dingle. Just a shame we didn't get to meet Louise! I'm sure there will be a next time...
I didn't meet Louise but everything went as planned and the Nest was true to description. Dingle is a lovely place for a quiet getaway, which was exactly what I was after, and the Nest and location is perfect for the solitary writer - it's cozy and has everything you need, and there's a certain snugness about curling up with a tea in front of the fireplace as the Atlantic blasts the hills outside. I'd definitely recommend the Nest to anyone looking for a base to explore the spectacular peninsula.
I think it was a great experience! There are things that you can't buy and the nest's atmosphere is one of them. Louise was away and we were desperate to find a place but she help us so quickly. Thanks for sharing the nest.

We called every day but could not get a response from these guests. We also emailed the address we had been given to try and elicit a response and see if they had everything they needed but again had no response though they had both mine and the cleaners contact details. Previous guests asked us to provide some more sharp knives because we did not have the guests permission to enter the property we left them by the front door with a note but they were never taken in. The follow guests said it was the best place they had ever stayed so horses for courses.

About the Host, Louise
I live in England but spend every spare moment in our house in Dingle. We run Writer's Retreats at the house and now want to open it up to other people so they can discover the hidden Dingle we have explored over the past 13 years.
We have a dog, Zip and a 3 legged cat Mimi. Zip loves being taken for walks by guests. I'm a keen walker. My husband Chris, has Parkinson's and has to take things more easily but loves sharing stories with guests. We are both writers and you will often find us working away on our latest projects.
My favourite thing to do in Dingle is fish, and then share what I have caught with other people. I love cooking and there is always a home made cake on the go.
