Perfect place for the independent traveler to stay in a real NY apartment! It's super conveniently located to Times Square, Empire State Building, the Highline, Hell's Kitchen, Penn Station, Javits Convention Center, you get the picture!

The Space

Clean and tidy 2 bedroom, 1 bath conveniently located between Hell's Kitchen and Chelsea. You (and only you- this listing is only for 1) would be staying on the futon (there will also be a mattress pad) in the living room while I stay in my own bedroom. There may be a guest in the other bedroom during your stay.

Guest Access

-Your own set of keys
-Air conditioner and fan (late spring, summer, and early fall only)
-Steam radiator (apartment stays surprisingly warm during the winter but pipes sometimes make lots of noise- I have new ear plugs available if you need them)
-Clean sheets, blankets and pillows
-Clean guest towels

The following are available upon request (aka if you ask me about them):
-Shampoo, conditioner and lotion
-Hair dryer
-Hair straightener you can use my Chi or Biosilk heat protective spray)
-Electric kettle and tea
-Food processor
-Microwave and toaster oven
-Breakfast if you ask nicely on weekends and help me do the dishes
-Gas oven and stove (this is the kind that you do NOT need to light a match to turn on)
-Full-size refrigerator and freezer
-Board games (I am awesome at Mancala)

Interaction with Guests

If you're going to be staying with me, you should get to know me. I am a young business professional hailing from Texas (southern hospitality!) trying to make it in the big city. But seriously, I am easy going with 2 years of experience in NYC. Since moving here, I've been inducted into the Yelp Elite and Goog City Experts programs for New York so I know my way around this city, or at least around the restaurants.

I've lived in London, Bath, Istanbul, DC, Bartlesville, OK, etc. etc. I now work at a marketing agency and love it. I speak (all poorly) Vietnamese, Spanish, French and Turkish. I don't drink but don't mind if you do if it's like a beer or scotch after a long day.

The Neighborhood

We are at most 15 minutes walking from:
-Times Square
-Theater District
-Hell's Kitchen and its amazing restaurants
-Empire State Building
-Macy's (the world's largest store)
-Herald's Square shopping area
-Madison Square Garden
-Jacob K. Javits Convention Center
Yet because we're (email hidden) and 9th Ave, we're far enough away from all the noise and swarms of people.

-surrounded by local restaurants
-less than a block away from the closest bodega/corner supermarket
-less than a block away (email hidden)
-2 doors from local laundromat
-8 minute walk from 24hr pharmacy

Getting around

For places that you can't/don't want to walk to, we are a block away from the closest subway (Penn Station- ACE (blue) line- very convenient lines!). We are a 7 minute walk from Penn Station (the train station), 9 minute walk from Port Authority Bus Terminal, 9 minute walk from the 123 (red), a 12 minute walk from the BDFM (orange) and a 13 minute walk from the NQR (yellow). You don't have to worry about waiting for the local trains at this location!

Other Things to Note

-You are more than a party of 1; this share is for 1 person only!
-You can't climb 2 flights of stairs- this apt is located on the 3rd floor and there are no elevators
- If you are 6 feet and over- I've heard tall guests say their feet go past the futon.
-If you are extremely sensitive to noise (1. it's NY; there are sirens, although all guests have told me it's surprisingly quiet in the apartment given the central location 2. the pipes are sometimes loud in the winters 3. you can sometimes hear the upstairs neighbours 4. I sometimes like to go to the gym around 6:30am so I have to pass through the living room to exit or cook breakfast around 7:30am)
-You need darkness and peace and quiet to sleep before 11pm. I've found out about myself lately that I sometimes cook past 10pm.
-You need to stay for longer than a week. This isn't a hard and fast rule, but generally, we are not looking for someone who wants to stay for weeks.
-You plan on bringing unexpected guests home from your nightly bar crawl
-You're going to be super loud after 11pm

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • I stayed in this airbnb for two nights in late June. It's conveniently located very close to Penn Station. I didn't actually meet Tam since her sister is currently occupying her apartment, but Tam was responsive to emails and checked in to make sure I arrived all right. Tam's sister was pleasant. The futon was comfortable and the towel and bedding provided were nice. I hate to say that a few aspects of my stay were not ideal: the space was hot and stuffy (a fan was provided, which made it possible to fall asleep, but the in-window air conditioning unit was super, super weak), and the bathroom could have been cleaner (Also, although I know that these things can't be controlled by Tam, just as a heads up, the hallways/stairwells of the building are pretty derelict (don't worry, the apartment itself is much better!), and the shower temperature fluctuates a lot.). All in all, despite being surprised by those previously stated things, it worked out fine as a place to stay.

  • I enjoyed my stay at Tam's apartment. The apartment was clean and in a good location.

  • Tam was an excellent Host and very helpful with any info I needed. She is an easy going person and easy to chat to. The Apartment location was excellent, so close too most of the major attractions in New York and a short walk to many good bars and restaurants.

The only down side to the bed was the fact it is in the Kitchen/ communal area and so there is not a lot of privacy but if all you are after is a bed for the night at a very reasonable price then this is ideal.

  • I had a great stay in Tam's apartment. The location is very convenient for travelers using NY Penn station. And staying in Chelsea is really lovely.

  • Tam was an awesome host. I really enjoyed staying at her place. She is friendly and provides excellent instructions and tips about NYC. The location was also great for me because I had to hit a conference at FIT.

  • As was the case the last time I stayed at Tam's place everything was spot on. The location is perfect, being centrally located and right next to the train station, and the din of the loud city was never an issue for me. On top of it all she has become a friendly face in a city of infinite strangers, a person who goes out of her way, making time in her busy life, to help. As long as she'll have me I'll keep staying here.

  • Tam is kind and pleasant. She was a perfect host.

Her place is clean, comfortable and warm. The neighborhood is safe and calm. It's well localized too.

Thank you Tam for all. My first experience in New york and with airbNb was amazing.

  • Tam was a friendly host who checked up on me to make sure I got into the place and shared with me some cool places to go eat and spend time in Manhattan. The location is amazing (only a couple blocks from Penn Station) and I would highly consider coming again if I need a place to stay in New York!

Hi I'm Tam (and yes that is my full name). I am from Texas but am currently living in New York. I also love love love Airbnb. I've been able to meet so many great guests since I started hosting and as cheesy as it sounds, I feel like it's really changed my life :) OTHER THINGS I LOVE: -Collecting foreign coins -London -Injera, baguettes, sourdough bread -Les Miserables: the musical, the 2012 movie, the book -Yoga in the morning and kickboxing at night -Walking- I try to walk everywhere if it's under 2 miles STYLE OF HOSTING: Because I am quite an independent and semi-experienced traveler, I like to leave people to their own devices. But of course I am more than happy to offer a suggestion, or two, or fifteen.
