George is a great host. Very accommodating & full of information. Cottage was pleasant & clean, perfect. Only downside, our cellular phones did not work on property, out of range. Thank goodness George offered free wi-fi. My aunt & I enjoyed our week long stay. Thank you George.
George greeted me, just after my arrival. He was very gracious and was available in person, by email and by phone, throughout my stay. The Yellow Cottage was perfect for me and looked like the photos online. The neighborhood was a rural rainforest, as I had expected. It was peaceful and I felt safe and comfortable.
Our host were in the mainland temporarily away to the mainland and were available only through phone, but they were available all the time. The information and the address were accurate. Actually, there were so many other stuffs available and the place was so clean. I believe it was cleaner than other average hotels in Hawaii. This place was a bit away from the town (about 30 minutes drive) and was somewhat difficult to find at first, but it was so quite and located in a beautiful area. It was great!
George and Barbara responded to a same day request very quickly. Their property was great. We arrived very late due to a highway being closed, but Oscar, their cat, seemed to be waiting for us and led us to the cottage. The main bedroom had a great view of the sunrise. The small town had very nice people and a beautiful black sand beach was only 10 miles down the road. My only complaint is George and Barbara did not respond to a phone call or message when we tried to notify them of the road closure. Due to the last minute booking, we were left wondering if we would be able to get in the cottage at the time we arrived. When we arrived, the light was left on and a key was left though.
Our stay at the Puna Rainforest Yellow cottage was wonderful! Everything was as pictured and advertised. The cottage was cute and clean and there was fresh fruit waiting for us. George and Barbara were away but they left the place in very capable hands, Susan and Randy were very helpful. We hope to return again some day!
This cottage would be best for 2 people looking for a very quiet back country experience, as it is in a remote part of the island. It was very pretty and clean, but didn't work so well for my family [2 adults plus teen son] as it is quite small. There are indeed two bedrooms, but no sitting room or living room, and no table or chairs to eat meals at, except the tiny deck, which wasn't much use during the frequent rain. The kitchenette is so small that it doesn't have a sink: you have to use the bathroom sink for all dish washing and cooking purposes, as well as bathroom needs. Sketchy cell phone service and no wifi during our stay.

Aloha, George and Barbara moved to Pahoa in 2008 to enjoy the peaceful rural Puna area. We enjoy hosting guests from other places and making new friends. We owned an award-winning B&B (2004 TripAdvisor Top Ten B&Bs in the USA) and are now managing four vacation rentals. We provide a kitchenette in each rental so you can cook your own meals. We provide coffee, tea, fruit and biscotti for your first morning with us. We think you will enjoy the central location of our property and will have easy access to the Puna beaches, Pahoa town, Volcanoes National Park and Mauna Kea Observatory Visitors' Center. Let us know if you would like to plan an event with a group.
We recently purchased a second home in Gulfport, Florida near St. Pete Beach and wish to share the apartment in the back with our guests! Come visit us in Sunny Florida as well as in Hawaii!
