a magical retreat casita on the mesa near santa fe , ways away from the city's energy field and yet so close.....

The Space

solar , off-the-grid , retreat studio-casita on glorietta mesa 20miles east of santa fe ;
studio with with shower & vanity , kitchen with fridge and range , the toilet is an outhouse a few steps away ; there is a queen bed and a futon couch/bed (double)
the casita is about 300 feet from our main house situated on hill , completely detached and almost invisible from our house , neither can you see the casita from our house ; so you will feel very private .......when you look out towards the south you see a large valley and no other houses , just the grassy valley and the ridges to the east and west , as far as the eye can see no houses fact , if you wanted to walk that way you had to trek quite a ways to finally cross a mayor hyway like I-40 , perhaps 80 miles to the south........

all electricity is generated by photovoltaic panels , all water is rain water catchment , we are off-the-grid.

we have a beautiful 40 acres of mesa land , great for just being , reading , walking ,climbing, biking , meditating , table tennis and creating art.
we have a nice pingpong area and we love to play.

we are a world away from the buzz of the city and you may have never seen the stars like this......

there is no wireless at the studio , but you can check your email and browse the web once a day at our main house which is nearby ;
not many cell phones work up here , but maybe you can find a spot where your's does ......

we are 20 miles east of the santa fe plaza on glorietta mesa , the last 4 m dirt road ( which can be muddy especially with snow melting and slow drying in the winter)
it's about 20 minutes drive to the next shopping area , the agora @ el dorado and it is about 30 minutes drive to the santa fe plaza .....

there is the great outdoors of northern new mexico = mountains , skiing , hiking, biking , hot springs are 1 - 1.5 hrs drive away...
and the multi culture (indian-hispanic & anglo) of santa fe with it's art , music , architecture , pueblos and so much more......

IN THE WINTER be prepared & equipped for cold and snowy outdoors , slippery roads......a 4-wd vehicle is best , snow chains work as well ; bring good snow boots and warm clothing.

there is no public transport and you will need a car ,
you can use our bikes
we can give you good tips for exploring the area.
Sonja is available for psychtherapy sessions and kali or both of us can guide you on outdoor trips.....

  • The casita was beautiful and very peaceful. Kali and Sonja were very helpful and offered directions to the hot springs and river in Las Vegas, as well as instructions on finding the trail on their land that leads to a small temple. The dirt road leading to the house is a bit rough, so it's probably best to travel during the day and during dry weather if your car has a low clearance. Overall, a great place to stay!

  • Kali and Sonja were amazing! They built this beautiful little house themselves and it is well worth asking about the construction process. Very comfortable space and beautiful, quiet surroundings. It only took us about 25 minutes to get to Santa Fe from the property, fabulous!

  • What an incredible, magical haven that Kali and Sonja have created!! The space was beautiful and had everything we needed (plus more). Kali and Sonja were so sweet and open to sharing info about their house and were lovely people. So inspiring to see how living off the grid can be so simple and gorgeous. We will be back and tell our friends!

  • I went out on a solo-adventure through the southwest to intuitively "find something", to reflect, to be inspired, to rejuvenate and re-center myself. After camping the majority of my trip, it was nice to have a place to call home for a few days. I was blown away by the property, nestled in the mountain-side just outside of the more traveled areas of Santa Fe. It was perfect. Not just the property which spanned over acres of beautiful land, scenery, a green house, and adobes built by Kali himself... vast yet had a coziness to. But more so, the vibe. They were both such kind, generous and gracious hosts. Coming from a big city, I was in awe of their lifestyle. Sonja let me tour her art-studio and I hugged myself over her beautiful, inspiring and personal work. So much genuine, good energy and fulfilling conversation was exchanged here, I found it less than easy to leave. It was better than a home away from home. To be honest, the best part of my short visit to Santa Fe was here. I found myself hurrying home to my little casita from the city. What a wonderful place they've made welcome. I feel blessed to have crossed paths here.

  • Kali and Sonja were the most perfect hosts! They didn't just give us a place to stay, they opened up their home. The casita was so cute and inviting:) my only complaint is that I would have liked to stay so much longer! We will most certainly be visiting this peaceful retreat again! Thank you Kali and Sonja:)

  • great place, quiet, comfortable, private. hosts kali and sonja are there if you need them, and not if you don't. A really great experience at an unique place where everything is better than you thought. I will definitely try to stay again next time through santa fe!

  • Perfect! Airbnb never ceases to amaze, and this is one of the best places I have ever stayed at - a great, quiet, amazing getaway with completely silent nights. Amazing selection of books to read from, incredible stars, and a very comfortable little casita.

  • Kali & Sonja were welcoming and informative hosts. My boyfriend and I adored staying in the retreat. The home was beautiful and provided a new awareness of how much energy and water we use each day. The kitchen was fully stocked and we were able to easily prepare full meals throughout our stay. We loved hiking up to the Shiva Temple and exploring Kali's land. Their place is perfect for exploring the outdoors and still coming back to the comforts of what feels like home. I would absolutely reccomend staying here and cannot wait to return.

  • This listing is unbelievable. It's possibly the best place I have ever stayed in my life. It taught me a lot about conservation as well and Kali was extremely informative on the ins and outs of how it worked. I'm going back if they will have me!

  • The pictures don't do it justice! We were only here for two nights, but it was exactly what we needed. There is plenty to do outdoors and indoors. We enjoyed exploring the book and music collection in the casita. We would have skipped hiking the Dale Ball Trails before arriving if we had known that we were coming to a large, beautiful property with private hiking trails :)

    Kali was very friendly and easy to communicate with, and flexible with our check in/out times. He took the time to walk through the casita with us and explain how everything works.

    The Casita itself is very private, the back deck area opens up to beautiful views of the valley. The kitchen is pretty fully equipped, we had everything we needed to make hot breakfast and dinner each day. There were even some basic spices and oil for cooking there already. We are coffee drinkers but did not bring coffee with us because an earlier reviewer said there was no coffee maker. We found there IS in fact a coffee maker, it is a pour over with reusable filter. The bed covers were really warm, we did not have the most comfortable sleep in the bed, but it wasn't bad.

    Ultimately, the feel and energy of the place was welcoming and positive. We had an amazing stay and would definitely return.
