The 10 Most Beautiful Places in Croatia:
Huffington Post posted 03/31/2014
Half way between Dubrovnik and Split, Makarska makes a popular stop on cruises around Croatia, with its lively beaches and colorful harbor set against the craggy peak of Mount Biokovo. It might be a quieter choice than its neighbors, but there's still plenty to do in Makarska -- make the most of the family-friendly beaches, celebrate Croatia's swashbuckling past at the Pirate Festival in nearby Omis or hop on the ferry to Brač Island.
Situated on the coast, in a naturally protected port, 10 m above the sea level, at the foot of the mountain Biokovo (1762 m), which protects it from the harsh continental climate, and has a rich Mediterranean vegetation, mild winters, long hot summer with a refreshing breeze. The history of the city can best be introduced in the Franciscan monastery, which celebrated its 500th anniversary. It guards Pinacotheca, library, a Malacological Museum and Institute of Mountains and Sea. Makarska is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Croatian coast, attractive for its nature and climate, rich in tourist attractions and friendly hosts. Due to its geographical location and cultural and historical importance, Makarska has become the center of the Makarska Riviera.
More rugged and wild, and less developed, Dalmatia lies to the south, and can be divided into three. From the UK, you can fly direct to Dubrovnik (South Dalmatia), Split (Central Dalmatia) or Zadar (North Dalmatia).
The big pluses are the blissful pine-scented Dalmatian islands and the warm Mediterranean climate, but you also get plenty of historic buildings too (most obviously in Dubrovnik and Split, both Unesco world heritage sites), and the dramatic, soaring Dinaric Alps backing the coaThe most visited islands are trendy Hvar, with its slick minimalist design hotels and boho-chic seafood eateries, slower-paced Korcula, with its lovely medieval-walled car-free old town, and Pag, where Zrce beach near Novalje hosts a string of open-air music festivals through summer.
The main hubs for ferries to the islands are Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar, so with a bit of planning you can fly in and sail out the same day. For ferry timetables, see (website hidden).
Islands aside, the Dalmatian coast more than warrants exploration. If you hire a car and drive up from Dubrovnik to Split, you’ll pass the Peljesac peninsula, a haven for foodies with its hillside vineyards producing the potent red Dingac, Ston Bay, with its acclaimed oysters and mussels, and the Makarska Rivijera, with its fine pebble beaches and turquoise waters, backed by the imposing heights of Mount Biokovo. From Makarska you can go on island Hvar, Brač or Korčula.
A local bus stop with links to Baška Voda and other small towns on the Makarska Riviera is just 100 metres from the property. Makarska Bus Station is 800 metres away.
From Makarska you can go on island Hvar, Brač or (website hidden) is go on mountain Biokovo.Hier is convenient public transport for Split and Dubrovnik.
Dubrovnik is the southernmost city in Croatia, a gorgeous former city state which joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1979. The prosperity of the city of Dubrovnik was historically based on maritime trade. As the capital of the Republic of Ragusa, a maritime republic, the city achieved a high level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. Dubrovnik became notable for its wealth and skilled diplomacy. The Republic was an early adopter of what are now regarded as modern laws and institutions and Dubrovnik became a cradle of Croatian literature. The city successfully balanced its sovereignty between the interests of Venice and the Ottoman Empire for centuries.

Thank You, Ivica!
The appartment is quite old but at least tidy. For those who would like to be separate this isnt an ideal choice because voices from the family can be completely heard through the doors. But the location is perfect, supermarket, bakery and seaside is very close!
My stay at Ivicas was quite pleasant.
He picked my mother and I up at the bus station and drove us to the apartment which was a huge help!
On arrival his mother prepared a light lunch for us of fresh bread, Dalmatian meat and salad.
We sat for quite some time and talked with Ivica, his youngest son and his mother.. it was a lovely experience!
The room was large and had its own small private balcony, as well as small ensuite bathroom.
We were very grateful for the airconditioning seeings it was peak summer and quite hot!!
thankyou for a a pleasant stay!
Had a great stay at the apartment in Makarska. I was met by Ivica's Grandmother who couldn't do enough to help and greeted me with a cold beer. Also had great communication over the phone with Ivica himself. Nice room with balcony and all the facilities you need in an ideal location - highly recommended!
