Other things to note
Paul Lake + The Spot Introduction:
We encourage you to do a techno detox while here and make use of the many games, and seating areas, indoor and out, and nature that surrounds you.
If working while away is on your agenda (may just be the case, sorry), we do have Starlink with fast connectivity, so you should be all set for success
We thankfully acknowledge we are caretaking and sharing this traditional and uncared land of the Secwepemc Nation.
The property is on a community septic and we politely ask for toilet paper only in toilets and no bleach in washing machine.
All water from taps is safe to drink. We have our own well with reverse osmosis and UV light filtration. You may see boil water advisories at start of lake road (seasonally they come & go), these do not apply to our address!
Paul Lake was named after Jean-Baptiste Lola St. Paul, a French-Canadian Iroquois man who worked during the fur trade era, as translator with the Hudson’s Bay Company. Stocked with rainbow trout and kokanee (land locked salmon), douglas fir, aspen and pine forest surrounds the 6.1 km in length and 0.48 km (average) width lake.
The Spot is at the base of Harper Mountain, a quaint, family run ski hill with powder snow, tubing, night skiing and a rustic lodge with a giant fireplace to give you that nostalgia of Canadian Winter. Poutine and mulled wine! Shhh one of those best kept secrets. We are under an hour to Sun Peaks, but we rarely go, we have a local hot spot a 10 min drive further up the mountain.
You are facing Gibraltar Rock from the property, a stunning rock backdrop. There is an excellent hike to the top, where you have a panoramic view of your surroundings. Enter from the lake head entrance you drove past on your way here.
Excellent swimming lake,
How many faces can you find in the rock face? This is a little activity commonly shared by guests.
Originally erected as a mid century modern cabin, in the 1960’s, this is an intergenerational cabin, purposefully built with low plastics and locally sourced, man made materials wherever possible. This is not a hotel, and we do not claim to be. This art filled space is eclectic with a modern rustic feel. Continually updated to enhance the experience, this is a great fit if you want a Canadian nature experience not too deep into the woods, but a world away from everyday life. Many people ask us about our finishes. The exterior is burnt cedar with Fir interior finishes and red western cedar sauna. Wood has been sourced, milled and prepared by our family.
We are happy to assist in curating your holiday why road trip and local product and stop suggestions. Tourism Kamloops (TK) is the most up to date website resource for information on what’s happening!
This land was traditionally used by the local indigenous residents and continues to be. You may see wild horses on your drive up to us, you may also spot other wilder animals. We are fortunate to have healthy wildlife around us.
In the 1900’s there was a popular fishing lodge, on the shores of Paul Lake. Local lore is that trout fishing at Paul Lake predates the 1920’s, when British royalty stayed at the old “Echo Lodge”. The old lodge is now the site of townhouses as you arrive to the lake head.
Four seasons of nature and connection available at ours.
Hope to meet you :)
