Where you’ll be

Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Constantia is one of the oldest suburbs of Cape Town and is famed for its wine. The estate of Groot Constantia (Great Constantia) was established in 1684 by the Dutch Colonial Governor of Cape Town, Simon van der Stel. Other notable wine farms in the area include the oldest estate, Steenberg (Mountain of Stone), established in 1682, Buitenverwachting (Beyond Expectations), Klein Constantia (Small Constantia) and Constantia Uitsig (View of Constantia). Before the twentieth century, the region was noted for its exports of Vin De Constance a sweet dessert wine. Many years ago the trade was crippled by the arrival in the Cape of a parasite that attacked the vines.

In addition to the many things to see and do, the Constantia Valley is situated centrally for all the major attractions in The Cape Peninsula.

The following are the approximate times it takes to drive from Constantia to some of the popular attractions outside of peak hour traffic.

- Waterfront and Cape Town Central, 20 minutes
- Constantia Village Shopping, 5 minutes
- Table Mountain Cableway, 20 minutes

- Golf Courses, Mowbray, Rondebosch, Royal Cape and Clovelly, 10 to 20 minutes
- Rondevlei Bird Sanctuary, 15 minutes
- Hout Bay Fishing Harbour and Beach, 20 minutes
- Chapman’s Peak scenic drive, 20 minutes

My wife runs the Upper Constantia guest house and I help her out with website listings, marketing and admin. We both enjoy traveling a lot, spend most of our time between Europe, Dubai and Africa. We both love sports, I do kite surfing and any kind of cycling, and we both enjoy running.
