About This Listing
***YOU DON'T HAVE TO SKYDIVE...!***
to stay here, but if you do, my home is only 1 mile from Skydive Sebastian/The Drop Zone.
I have a very nice guestroom with its own adjacent bathroom available in my 2 bedroom duplex. My home is clean, quiet, and comfortable and secure. The Guest Bedroom has a very comfortable double bed and adjacent bathroom, and I will accept two guests.
The main/shared living area of the house has an open kitchen, quiet front room off the entry, and a yard full of plants and flowers.
You are welcome to make yourself at home and use the well appointed kitchen. I am happy to provide a light continental breakfast, and even on some occasions be more elaborate or share other meals.
If you are coming to skydive, my home is only 1 mile from the Drop Zone. If you care to fish (fresh water or salt) Sebastian is a wonderful location. Sebastian is a great fishing area. We have freshwater fishing in lakes nearby, shallow water and flats fishing in the Indian River Estuary/Lagoon This is a very eco-friendly area and home to Pelican Island Sanctuary. There are hundreds of dolphins and manatees who call the estuary home. We seldom go out to any of the 4 waterfront restaurants or out on the "river" that we don't see dolphins. We have several festivals and fishing tournaments throughout the year here.
Vero Beach is just 12 miles to the south, and features many fine arts and cultural offerings at the museum and performing arts theatre. There are several upscale dining and shopping opportunities in Vero Beach, and there are also several movie screens at two different locations.
If you are more active and/or adventurous you can rent Kayaks, boats and jet-skis in Sebastian to explore and play in/on the Indian River Estuary/Lagoon, take eco-tours, dozens of miles of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails, surfing, diving, birding.
There are several waterfront restaurants in Sebastian. You might want to start the day at "Mulligan's" watching dolphins feeding as you enjoy breakfast from their rear deck overlooking the Indian River Estuary/Lagoon. Have lunch at "Squid Lips Over Water Grill" (the best conch chowder and bacon wrapped scallops), or drinks, dinner and dancing or listening to live music at "Captain Hiram's" outdoor sandbar or indoor dining (once again located right on the Indian River Estuary/Lagoon. Not enough to do yet? Try the "Tiki-Hut" on Indian River Estuary/Lagoon and play "Corn-Hole" or sing karaoke, or visit "Outriggers", "Pelican Pub", "Chill & Grill" or the "World Famous Earl's" biker bar/tiki hut outdoor Sunday blues music. You can have pizza from a different shop every day of the week! If you want something different (and fried) take a 15 minute drive to old Florida and have sweet potato pancakes or frog legs, gator tail, catfish, fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, fried okra , fried oysters at "Marsh Landing" in Fellsmere.
If you crave fine dining, Vero Beach "Beachside" has all you could ask for , starting with the famous "Ocean Grill and historic "Waldo's" (I think their "Boardwalk Burger" is as good as any burger, anywhere, and you can order and eat it at a table just above the beach and poolside at the "Driftwood Inn". If you desire something more contemporary I highly recommend "Cobalt" or "Citrus" (both on the beach in Vero), or the "Tides", "Maison Martinique"...(are you hungry yet?)
In case of emergency we have great police, sheriff, fire department and EMT services, along with two hospitals. Duke University has partnered with the Indian River Medical Center and has one of the premier heart centers in the nation!
If you are travelling through the state, Sebastian is located on the east [Treasure] coast 90 minutes to two hours south of Daytona Beach [north], Orlando [west], and Palm Beach [south]. Further south is Ft. Lauderdale (125 miles), Miami (150 miles), Florida Keys (200 miles) and Key West (300 miles).
This is a non-smoking residence, please respect that.
WI-FI and cable TV
I am very easy going and accommodating. I will accept courteous smokers if they do not smoke in the house or near open doors and windows.

Joan was an exceptional host. She is very considerate and knowledgeable about the area. Her house was easy access in a quiet neighborhood. She is very clean and keeps the place well maintained. Joan is very charming and enjoyable to be around. I had a great time getting to know her!
I feel very fortunate to have been hosted by Joan. This was my first time using Airbnb and it was great. Joan made me feel right at home and now I feel like I have a mom away from home in Sebastian, Florida. The support, advices, great sense of humor, interesting life experiences and stories are things I will always take with me where ever I go. The house, neighborhood and area is beautiful overall. Great weather, the house was very clean, and anything I needed was accessible thanks to Joan.
This was also my first time in Florida and I will return. Whether I stay with Joan on my next visit or not she will receive a visit from me. I didn't just meet someone, I made a friend.
P.s. If Joan offers you peach cobbler or any other dish just say yes even if you just ate and you're not hungry. You're welcome!! =]
Thanks Joan, we liked it!
Joan was a wonderful host, and has a lovely home that's described accurately in the listing. She is very warm and kind; making you feel right at home when you stay with her. Although I was only able to spend two mornings with her due to an incredibly packed schedule, she cooked breakfast for me, and we had great conversations. If I'm ever in Sebastian again, I'll definitely be staying with her!
Words can't do justice to my stay with Joan. When I arrived, she was my Airbnb host, when I left a week later, she was a dear friend with whom I dined, shopped and enjoyed the highlights of the Sebastian area. This, in spite of her having wrenched her ankle the day before I arrived. Nothing can stop her. She is an incredibly warm and generous woman who opens her home and heart to her guests. I will be returning.
Joan's home is a reflection of her - warm and inviting, with an artistic decor. Each item comes with a story and Joan is a wonderful story teller. She's a treasure!
Joan is a warm, caring lady who is very knowledgeable and helpful about the local area. She went above & beyond for me to feel comfortable. It was my first Airbnb experience & she made it positive and pleasant. I would stay there again and recommend to my family/friends. Room & bathroom were very clean & comfortable.
I give Joan my highest rating which is five fishes - she deserves a Pompano. She is a wonderful host & credit to the Airbnb program. Sebastian is a great area for fishing, golf, skydiving and relaxing with a touch of "old' Florida.
About the Host, Joan
I am a semi-retired active woman that enjoys entertaining, company, travel, exercise, metaphysics, cooking, gardening, and generally having fun! I have heard about AIRBNB from a few of my friends, and with encouragement and wonderful stories and experiences, I have decide to give hosting a try myself.
While I don't have large palatial estate, or waterfront view, my duplex is only 1 mile from Skydive Sebastian (2 miles from the waterfront)! It is very clean, comfortable, and generally quiet.
I have traveled extensively, and because of that I love the concept behind AIRBNB, The idea that you can travel with reasonable accommodation costs, while staying with someone who is familiar with the area is quite appealing. Knowing that AIRBNB gives both the Guest and Host the opportunity to learn about each other, as well as turn down any inquiries that don't seem like a comfortable fit, as well as a $1 million insurance policy protecting both guest and host has provided me with the peace of mind I needed to explore this great new way to travel and meet people!
PS: I make the best dark chocolate chipolte cookies!
