Located in historic Travis Heights district - walking distance to downtown, Zilker Park, Town Lake, South Congress (SoCo) district, and other dining and live music attractions. Perfect for attending Austin events or just for stroll in the city.
The room is 550 sq ft above garage studio space attached to a 1920s cottage - with bamboo floors, plenty of sunlight and greenery. It is private, with it's own staircase, accessible from outside. It has it's own full modern kitchen in there too (just installed, and need to upload photos), with state of the art appliances.
Full modern brand new kitchen.
The surrounding is a 100 year old neighborhood with beautiful cottage houses and greenery. The lake, actually the river, but it is called Town Lake inside the city, is only 1 mile away, and has a nice walking/running trail, 10+ miles long, along with a new 2 mile long boardwalk.
South Congress district, South First district, all within a mile, have the Austin's finest street food and also proper dining. Jazz venues like Continental Club, Elephant Room, Saxon Pub, are all walkable from (website hidden) aficionados, check out Whip In - around the corner, may be 200 meters from the house. It is reported to have the best beer selection in Texas. Live music every night, with spicy and filling fusion food. The other new hangout hood these days, Rainey St neighborhood, with lots of great food, craft beer and breweries is just across the river.
Don't forget to swim and dive at Barton Springs pool - three miles from here - it is quite appropriately called the soul of Austin - natural spring fed 200 meters long pool, with beautiful underwater flora to gaze on. In a hurry? You can do laps in Big Stacy Pool (33 meters long heated outdoor pool) just 100 meters from the house - open from 6am all throughout the year, and it comes free with the studio (actually it is free City of Austin pool :) )
This is Austin! Right here. My beautiful fair city!
Public bus access within five minutes walking distance. Major artery bus access 10 minutes walking distance. And the house is just three blocks from Interstate 35.
The airport is less than 15 mins away.
University of Texas is less than 4 miles away, but you can hop on a bus from around the corner.
Austin now has automated bike rentals (similar to DC or Toronto), and stations are close-by (nearest one is 10 minutes walk from the house). We may be able to arrange a bicycle for you to use too.
Other Things to Note
The city and the state requires us to collect hotel taxes from guests now - otherwise we'd be in violation of rules. Maybe you've heard of this in the media all over the country actually. Here's the quote from City of Austin's website:
"The City of Austin’s Hotel Occupancy Tax rate is 9 percent, comprised of a 7 percent occupancy tax and an additional 2 percent venue project tax. Texas law requires that each bill or other receipt for a hotel charge subject to the tax imposed for a venue project contain a statement in a conspicuous location stating: “The City of Austin requires that an additional tax of two percent (2%) be imposed on each hotel charge for the purpose of financing a venue project.”
"The City’s tax is in addition to the 6 percent rate imposed by the State of Texas, which must be remitted separately to the State."
So I'll have to ask you for a check (or cash) for an additional 15% (of the amount I get from all this). The amount I get from AirBnb for hosting is lower than what you pay AirBnb, because they charge fee both to you and me for the service they're providing. So in the end you'll be writing me a check for less than 15% of the amount you're paying for the whole thing. You can give the check (or cash) to me when you're here. I'm sorry if this is an inconvenience, but we've to abide by laws of course. Thanks.
Please treat this place as your own. No pets. Smoking is NOT ALLOWED ANYWHERE in the premises. Thank you.
We were very happy staying at Faisal's studio.
The host was polite and thoughtful and made sure we were satisfied.
The location was perfect for us.
Quiet, next to a park, walking distance to SoCo.
Our stay was very enjoyable and Faisal made sure that we were taken care of the entire time without being invasive. He always communicated in a timely fashion. I actually accidentally booked us an additional day and when I mentioned it to Faisal, he was very understanding. We especially liked that we were in a separate area than the house itself. Also, we were less than a five minute drive from South Congress and the downtown area. I would certainly suggest staying here if you're coming to the area. It was very clean and comfortable.
Faisel was very flexible about our arrival. He left us coffee which was much appreciated! The apartment is convenient to the highway and near Congress St area. He checked in with us several times which was nice.
The apt has a medium/long flight of exterior stairs in terms of luggage access.
The 1 issue we had had nothing to do with Faisal. The next-door neighbors hosted an outdoor party with stereo speakers playing loud music until the early AM hours. Luckily we had earplugs, shut the windows, and put on the air conditioning to create "white noise."
Faisal was very friendly and accommodating! There was no lack of communication leading up to our arrival, which I appreciated! He made sure we had everything we needed to know before getting there. The studio has ample space, a comfortable bed, plenty of windows to let in light and air, and a clean bathroom/kitchen. Its location is about one mile from shops / restaurants on South Congress, as well as 1-3 miles from downtown Austin and other sights. We wished we had bikes, as it would have been a great way to get around (next time we'll do the bike rentals we saw in several places). I would definitely stay here again and will tell friends to do the same!
Great host! I really appreciated his flexibility in working with our arrival and in general how he looked after us as guests--and it's a great location in Travis Heights. I highly recommend this studio.
Great stay at a cute apartment. Minutes from South Congress Ave which was very nice!
Faisal was a great host for our 3 night stay in Austin. He provided us tips on what to do while in town, checked in with us to see how our stay was, and made sure everything was good with us. While we didn't have to contact him during the stay, he made himself very accessible to reach in the event of any problems.
The apartment was clean, spacious, and looked almost identical the photos. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. For colder evenings (we were staying in February), there was a heater that provided ample heating, and doubles as an AC in the warmer months. The wifi also worked perfectly during our stay.
The neighborhood was beautiful to walk around in (and Uber was easy for longer distances). Ask Faisal for nearby bars and restaurants if you're having a hard time deciding where to go. South Congress is nearby, and downtown Austin is about a 30 minute walk up that stretch (if you choose to walk).
Thank you Faisal for a great stay! We'll definitely be back on future trips to Austin!
Thank you for your interest in our place. We've a beautiful cottage in Travis heights, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Austin. A detatched studio, at the back of the cottage, is available for guests.
I'm into outdoor activities - mountaineering, backpacking out in the country, running, adventure travel - and reading, which can be outdoors too, except in Texas summer! I design microprocessors for a living, but my real interest is in high energy physics and cosmology, which tells us about the nature of things and how we got to where we are today.
