About this listing
Located in historic Travis Heights, our treehouse studio is walking distance to downtown, Zilker Park, Town Lake, South Congress (SoCo) district, and other dining and live music attractions. Perfect for attending Austin events or just for stroll in the city.
The treehouse is a large (550 sq ft) studio space behind our 1920s cottage. It is completely separate from the cottage, with it's own private entrance. It boasts beautiful bamboo floors, a big bathroom, plenty of sunlight, and has greenery all around. There's a full modern kitchen in there too (just installed, and need to upload photos), with state of the art appliances.
Full modern brand new kitchenette inside the studio.
Interaction with Guests
The studio is totally separate from the house, with it's own entrance from the driveway. It allows you full privacy, and you can go in and out any time without thinking of making any noise. Therefore our interaction with guests varies according to their wishes. We're happy to meet and greet you when you arrive, and to wish you a safe journey when you leave, and in between times, it is totally up to you, as far as interaction is concerned.
In any case, we'll check with you every day (on text, or if you prefer in person) to make sure your stay is comfortable and whether you need anything.
The surrounding is a 100 year old neighborhood with beautiful cottage houses and greenery. The lake, actually the river, but it is called Town Lake inside the city, is only 1 mile away, and has a nice walking/running trail, 10+ miles long, along with a new 2 mile long boardwalk.
South Congress district, South First district, all within a mile, have the Austin's finest street food and also proper dining. Jazz venues like Continental Club, Elephant Room, Saxon Pub, are all walkable from (website hidden) aficionados, check out Whip In - around the corner, may be 200 meters from the house. It is reported to have the best beer selection in Texas. Live music every night, with spicy and filling fusion food. The other new hangout hood these days, Rainey St neighborhood, with lots of great food, craft beer and breweries is just across the river.
Don't forget to swim and dive at Barton Springs pool - three miles from here - it is quite appropriately called the soul of Austin - natural spring fed 200 meters long pool, with beautiful underwater flora to gaze on. In a hurry? You can do laps in Big Stacy Pool (33 yards long heated outdoor pool) just 200 yards from the house - open from 6am all throughout the year.
This is Austin! Right here. Our beautiful fair city!
Public bus access within five minutes walking distance. Major artery bus access 10 minutes walking distance. The house is just two blocks from Interstate 35.
The airport is less than 15 mins away.
University of Texas is less than 4 miles away, but you can hop on a bus from around the corner.
Austin now has automated bike rentals (similar to DC or Toronto), and stations are close-by (nearest one is 10 minutes walk from the house). We may be able to arrange a bicycle for you to use too.
Other Things to Note
The city and the state requires us to collect hotel taxes from guests now - otherwise we'd be in violation of the law. Here's the quote from City of Austin's website:
"The City of Austin’s Hotel Occupancy Tax rate is 9 percent, comprised of a 7 percent occupancy tax and an additional 2 percent venue project tax. Texas law requires that each bill or other receipt for a hotel charge subject to the tax imposed for a venue project contain a statement in a conspicuous location stating: “The City of Austin requires that an additional tax of two percent (2%) be imposed on each hotel charge for the purpose of financing a venue project.”
"The City’s tax is in addition to the 6 percent rate imposed by the State of Texas, which must be remitted separately to the State."
So when you're here, you'll have to write a check (or give me cash) for 15% of our proceed, so we can send the tax to the city and to the state. Our proceed is lower than the total cost AirBnb is showing you, because Airbnb charges fee from both you and us for the service they're providing. We'll tell you what the exact tax will be as soon as you book, or actually even beforehand if you ask. Our previous quarters' tax returns are available in the studio for your perusal in case you're interested to know how it works.
We love our planet and want to keep it as beautiful as it is. So please conserve. Turn off lights and ac/heater when you go out. There's a box there for recycle - paper, plastic, glass, and cans.
Treat our place as your own.
No pets, for allergy reasons of future other guests.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the premises, for fire hazard reasons.
We are just back from a wonderful trip to Austin. Our stay at Faisal's Treehouse in Travis Heights could not have been better. The place is attractive, clean, spacious and convenient in terms of location. Faisal was a gracious (and unobtrusive) host. He was available if we needed him but we were very free and comfortable to come and go independently. We give Faisal's studio our highest recommendation. It was just perfect.
Faisal was fantastic, and the place was really lovely. Lots of space, very clean and stylish, great AC. He was very flexible about us arriving late at night, which was appreciated. We'd definitely stay again.
My friend and I had a perfect first stay in Austin thanks to Faisal! The apartment was very clean, well-appointed, and very comfortable. Faisal was readily available to us for anything we needed. The kitchen was well-equipped (even though we never ended up using it!) and is perfect for cooking on a low-key night in. The bathroom was spacious and easily accommodated two girls who needed to get hair and makeup done before heading out for the night. Sleeping conditions were perfect, with a large bed and the futon ready to unfold if you need a second bed!
The shopping and restaurants on South Congress were an easy walk (though I will say that if you plan on visiting in the summer, be prepared to get a little sweaty!). We were able to see many area sights and enjoy a lot of places within walking distance, including Gordough's donuts, which I personally highly recommend. Other area attractions were easily accessed via uber and most fares were between $5-$10.
All in all, we had a fantastic time in Austin, and we owe a lot to Faisal for providing great accommodations!
My mother and I stayed in Faisal's studio when she came to visit me in Austin. The studio was lovely and made for a great 'staycation' spot.
Everyday Faisal would either check on us by text or in person as we passed his front door to make sure that everything was to our liking. He made us feel very welcome. We will definitely recommend Faisal and his wonderful studio to all of our friends and be sure to return to stay!
Faisal was sweet, friendly, and helpful! The place is even more spacious than the photos make it seem. The cleaning products are eco-friendly! The pots are non-stick though, if you care about that. Being able to see greenery out every window (not to mention around the little balcony/porch) was very peaceful. Simple and perfect!
Our stay in Austin at Faisal's loft was wonderful. He was very warm and welcoming while giving my boyfriend and I plenty of privacy to relax and enjoy our time. The loft is very quiet, comfortable, and well maintained. The location is incredibly convenient to downtown & most all of the city's other eccentric attractions! Overall, we could not have enjoyed it more.
This place is adorable and feels very spacious. Faisal was really nice to deal with and easy to get a hold of. If you're looking for a serene place for a staycation or trip to Austin you should definitely consider this gem!
About the Host, Faisal
Thank you for your interest in our place. We live in a beautiful cottage in Travis heights, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Austin. A large studio in the back, completely detached and with it's own entrance, is available for guests. We call it the treehouse nowadays after our friends and other Airbnb guests started affectionately referring to it that way, and it's at second storey level too. And it has solar panels all across it's roof so it can mostly power itself (expect maybe in hot Texas summer months) and you can feel great about being green too!
