About This Listing
Located in historic Travis Heights, our place is walking distance to downtown, Zilker Park, Town Lake, South Congress (SoCo) district, and other dining and live music attractions. Perfect for attending Austin events or just for stroll in the city.
The place is a large (550 sq ft) studio space attached to a 1920s cottage - with bamboo floors, plenty of sunlight and greenery. It is private, with it's own staircase, accessible from outside. It has it's own full modern kitchen in there too (just installed, and need to upload photos), with state of the art appliances.
Full modern brand new kitchenette inside the studio.
Interaction with Guests
The studio is totally separate from the house, with it's own entrance from the driveway. It allows you full privacy, and you can go in and out any time without thinking of making any noise. Therefore our interaction with guests varies according to their wishes. We're happy to meet and greet you when you arrive, and to wish you a safe journey when you leave, and in between times, it is totally up to you, as far as interaction is concerned.
In any case, we'll check with you every day (on text, or if you prefer in person) to make sure your stay is comfortable and whether you need anything.
The surrounding is a 100 year old neighborhood with beautiful cottage houses and greenery. The lake, actually the river, but it is called Town Lake inside the city, is only 1 mile away, and has a nice walking/running trail, 10+ miles long, along with a new 2 mile long boardwalk.
South Congress district, South First district, all within a mile, have the Austin's finest street food and also proper dining. Jazz venues like Continental Club, Elephant Room, Saxon Pub, are all walkable from (website hidden) aficionados, check out Whip In - around the corner, may be 200 meters from the house. It is reported to have the best beer selection in Texas. Live music every night, with spicy and filling fusion food. The other new hangout hood these days, Rainey St neighborhood, with lots of great food, craft beer and breweries is just across the river.
Don't forget to swim and dive at Barton Springs pool - three miles from here - it is quite appropriately called the soul of Austin - natural spring fed 200 meters long pool, with beautiful underwater flora to gaze on. In a hurry? You can do laps in Big Stacy Pool (33 yards long heated outdoor pool) just 200 yards from the house - open from 6am all throughout the year.
This is Austin! Right here. Our beautiful fair city!
Public bus access within five minutes walking distance. Major artery bus access 10 minutes walking distance. The house is just two blocks from Interstate 35.
The airport is less than 15 mins away.
University of Texas is less than 4 miles away, but you can hop on a bus from around the corner.
Austin now has automated bike rentals (similar to DC or Toronto), and stations are close-by (nearest one is 10 minutes walk from the house). We may be able to arrange a bicycle for you to use too.
Other Things to Note
The city and the state requires us to collect hotel taxes from guests now - otherwise we'd be in violation of the law. Here's the quote from City of Austin's website:
"The City of Austin’s Hotel Occupancy Tax rate is 9 percent, comprised of a 7 percent occupancy tax and an additional 2 percent venue project tax. Texas law requires that each bill or other receipt for a hotel charge subject to the tax imposed for a venue project contain a statement in a conspicuous location stating: “The City of Austin requires that an additional tax of two percent (2%) be imposed on each hotel charge for the purpose of financing a venue project.”
"The City’s tax is in addition to the 6 percent rate imposed by the State of Texas, which must be remitted separately to the State."
So when you're here, you'll have to write a check (or give me cash) for 15% of my proceed, so I can send the tax to the city and to the state. My proceed is a little lower than the total cost AirBnb is showing you, because they charge fee from both you and me for the service they're providing. I'll tell you what my proceed is as soon as you book, or actually even beforehand.
We love our home planet and want to keep it as beautiful as it is. So please conserve. Turn off lights and ac/heater when you go out. There's a box there for recycle - paper, plastic, glass, and cans.
Treat our place as your own.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the premises, for fire hazard reasons.
My husband and I enjoyed the cleanliness and serenity of the accommodations hosted by Faisal and Trisha. They were friendly and available for more than what was otherwise expected.
We came back to the studio one day to find a vase of fresh lilies on the coffee table. Delightful!
I highly recommend the studio. We like to 'spread out' and found both the bed and the futon most comfortable. Our hosts were ready with fresh towels, glassware and coffee mugs.
We will, without a doubt, rent from Faisal and Trisha again.

Faisal was great. He was very flexible on check-in time, came and introduced himself on our first day and then gave us our space for the rest of the weekend although he was always available if we needed something. The studio is above a garage behind their house and was extremely clean and quiet and comfortable. I would recommend this studio and would stay there again.
When I came into Austin, the weather was pretty extreme. Faisal checked in to make sure I had what I needed every day. The space was beautiful and clean and I loved having a kitchen where I could prepare some easy meals during the week. When I come back to Austin, I'm definitely checking his listing first for availability.
Perfect for a 4 day vacation in ATX. We loved having the kitchen, and cooked in for a couple of breakfasts and a dinner. It's nice to be a little residential area, makes you feel a little more removed from the hustle and bustle. Thanks Faisal!
Our stay in Austin was lovely. Despite the unexpected rain, we still managed to see a lot and have fun. Our host Fasial was very helpful and friendly; provided us with an umbrella and transport to a grocery store when it was pouring!!
The apartment was very cozy and had everything you need. It is nicely organised, clean and well care for. I would definitely stay here again on another trip to Austin. The apartment has a convenient location close to the airport and downtown.
Faisal was great host and very responsive. His place was well-situated and exactly as described.
Faisal's studio was fantastic! Tucked away on a private residential street, the place was very clean & had all the essentials. Suitable for up to two adults and maybe one child, it is a $4 Uber ride to SoCo and less than $10 to downtown. Street parking was easy with our rental car, and Faisal and Trisha were very friendly, welcoming, and easy to get ahold of before & during our trip. Would highly recommend this place if you are heading to Austin!
About the Host, Faisal
Thank you for your interest in our place. We've a beautiful cottage in Travis heights, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Austin. A detatched studio, at the back of the cottage, is available for guests.
I'm into outdoor activities - mountaineering, backpacking out in the country, running, adventure travel - and reading, which can be outdoors too, except in Texas summer! I design microprocessors for a living, but my real interest is in high energy physics and cosmology, which tells us about the nature of things and how we got to where we are today.
