Hammock Residency is an off-the-grid arts space that I founded in 2006 by making it in my house. So many spaces were getting shut down, funding was getting cut, and the space between studio and gallery were widening.
I wanted to make a space for artists to come, work on their projects, do their thing, drink some tea, either talk with me or ignore me as long as they needed to get their projects done, and as long as I could have them in my home.
Since opening, there have been a non stop flow of artists, projects, ideas, discussions, exhibitions, performances, collaborative dinners, etc at the Hammock Residency, which is now both equally residency space and community hub.
Trades & mutual aid fund the Hammock Residency, steeped in love and generosity, we've been able to get by. Airbnb was a suggestion for Hammock Residency as a way to buy more toilet paper, lighting, artist fees/supplies, projects, etc. If you would rather trade than pay cash, contact me, and we can send you a wish list (which could be as simple as you running 2 blocks to Home Hardware and buying strands of white rope lights, spraypaint, paint brushes, borax, or what not).
Come share a night with us. I have a studio, my bedroom (both with queen sized bed), a living room (couch) and a tiny art/live studio (which is currently being used). The studio, bedroom, and living room are massive, and all up for grabs. The bedroom has a door, while the studio has a curtain.
There are plants everywhere, close to Commercial Drive, heart of Vancouver, backyard, garden, porch, lovely neighbours, occasional feline friends/visitors, lots of signs, artist projects, music projects, friend times, installations, and neon.
In house libraries include 1 Give/Take Library, where you can either leave a book, or take a book, and never have to worry about returning it. There's also a Winter Branch of the Lovely People's Library, from Vancouver Occupy.
2 blocks away is Commercial Drive + First Avenue: food/coffee shops galore, 24/7 stores, parks, busses (#20), + skytrain (@ broadway + commercial).
Consider yourselves warned/invited. xoxo
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
