1. Please take off your shoes before entering your room. Note that it is customary to leave shoes outside before entering a home in Malaysia especially in Muslim homes because the floor area is used for prayer and floors are kept clean at all times.
2. Please assist us in conserving energy by switching OFF all lights, water-heater & fans before leaving your room.
3. Please DO NOT smoke in the bedroom or toilet.
4. DO NOT throw anything other than toilet tissue down the toilet bowl as this will result in blockages.
5. Please be informed that we do not have daily house-keeping. Towels & sheets will be changed upon request.
6. Please throw all rubbish into the black bin provided on the veranda & rubbish will be thrown out every other day.
7. We recycle ALUMINIUM cans, kindly throw all aluminium cans in the black bin near the gate.
8. Kindly observe the sensitivities of kampong (village) life & its’ people by not sun-bathing in the open, walk, jog, cycle in a bikini top, throw beer cans or bottles in your immediate surroundings or be loud & boisterous till the early hours of the morning.
9. Our doors at the RUMAH IBU or Main House are open from 10am-7pm. Should you require information, help or assistance you can always find me at the Rumah Ibu or on the grounds.
10. As this is our private home and we live on site, we have a policy of no visitors or guests of guests on the premises or in the rooms without prior permission from us (the owners).
11. Please keep the main gate to the compound closed at all times. This is to keep the cows, water buffaloes & stray dogs out of our compound.
12. Please try to keep the noise level down when returning late at night in respect to other guests on the compound who might be sleeping or resting. Because we live surrounded by padi fields which can be very quiet at night apart from the sound of nature, human noise (eg. music, loud talking) tend to be amplified & will startle the resident guard turkey who will gobble loudly in protest. :)
13. Upon CHECKING OUT, please return your room key to us. We charge RM20 for loss of room key.
14. Please LOCK your doors before leaving your room. We are not responsible for the safety of your personal belongings. Just as in any home, doors must be locked before leaving.

Everything is as described, even better ;-) We really enjoyed our stay, Marina and Ruben are wonderful hosts. They cared a lot about us and served us with nice food, fresh fruits and a lot of information. We really recommend to stay some days at their cosy place with two wonderful people (plus kids and cats), if you want to experience how life in Langkawi is, this is one of the best places to do so! Thank you again and take care! Julia & Hendrik
Marina is a wonderful host and i very grateful what she did for us.i won't forget there r amazing room and cute cats.
Marina is amazing! She is so welcoming and generous, taking me out to lunch several times. You're greeted at her home with a basket of fruit and eggs. She's also great company. The cottage is great! Really airy, beautifully decorated, and the little patio is lovely. The location is a little bit out of town, but is a 7 minute drive or 15 minute bicycle ride into the center of the action in Cenang Beach.
I can't recommend staying here enough and would come back to Langkawi just to stay with Marina again!
It was enjoyable to be stay in damai2.
Marina pick us up from the jetty, our ferry was delay 1 hour or even more, but she was there waiting for us! Marina is a very nice lady, she explains Langkawi city history while taking us to dinner. We don't had any plan to do for the next day until she told us there is a Canang beach 15 min away, and a wedding going on afternoon in the village. The damai2 looks perfect, there's a soft yellow misty staying with us the whole time! I never like any animal make by fur, but misty! She is adorable and very easy to get along with. I love the lifestyle in there, even no A/C at night time, but after a cold shower, nothing better than sitting out there with whatever position you want, a mask on your face, a icey juice near your hand, breezy goes through your ear, heaven! We stayed damai2 for 2 night, and we had a wonderful experience there, completely lifestyle change! Thank you again, Marina!
Marina is very nice & friendly host. This house is warm, cozy and some lazy style. Lived in here let us feel very comfortable. She also provided overall help if she can do it. This room is great, prefect and excellent for us. We'll still live here once we come to Langkawi again.
It was such a wonderful experience staying at Marina's place. The accommodation was lovely and comfortable, and Marina herself was so helpful and willing to share her knowledge on Langkawi. She even went the extra mile to drive us back to the airport to rent a car after we realized we needed one. It was a little warm in the room during our stay, but we got used to it quickly enough. I think it's because we didn't want to open the window for fear of mosquitoes (which we didn't get!). Do visit the Cenang beach for an unforgettable sunset and have some yummy roti cenai from the 24h shop near the beach. Stay here, you won't regret it!
Marina is an amazing host, I cannot recommend her enough. She picked us up from the Kuah ferry by car, drove us to her place through Cenang beach, pointed out which restaurants are good, told us about the local life. She knows how to make people feel welcome, and our room had everything we needed. I loved using the hammock! Thanks to the mosquito repellents, I did not get bitten, and I usually do a lot. She even drove us to the airport to buy flight tickets, and took us to the local market. I feel that we learned much more about Malaysia in those 2 days stay than the 2 weeks elsewhere. We will definitely come back, next time we have our driving license! :) Thank you for everything!

LOVE reading, gardening, wildlife, smell & sound of rain, open spaces, coffee, hammocks, wind in my face, travel, food & handmade craft.
I'm quirky, down-to-earth & practical. Quick to laugh with a dry sense of humour.
My husband Ruben the local drug dealer (he's a pharmacist) & I both suffered from burnout living in the city before moving to Langkawi (where we met) & making this our island paradise home. We are both Malaysians (of two different ethnic groups) who grew-up/studied/lived/worked in the UK & US (that's why one speaks with an American accent & the other a Yorkshire accent!). :D
We live here with our 4 cats, 3 teenage children, 1 hen, 1 jungle rooster & 1 male turkey surrounded by padi fields, swaying coconut trees, water buffaloes & visiting migratory birds with the beach only 10 minutes by bicycle & 5 minutes by car away from our home.
We welcome honest, sincere people who seek a little respite from the stresses of life & would like a taste of living in a quiet village environment surrounded by padi fields & a beautiful view of the Mat Cincang mountain range which is older than the Everest!
We live onsite and as a host we're available for help & enquiries but will give you plenty of privacy & space for you to relax & enjoy your holiday.
As travellers, we love travel tips from the locals on local sights & experiences! We love to explore or just sit quietly & read a book, drink coffee, soak in the atmosphere of the place we are visiting, are quiet & independent.
