Fantastic experience the Hollywood Hideaway! Even though I never met Tobias he was very communicative and answered any questions promptly. Although he pretty much has all covered with clear directions about everything. The apartment was very clean and I felt safe. It was also quiet and I slept well there. Wi-Fi worked great and the TV has local channels and netflix etc. Nice parking space for my rental car. Tobias also had complimentary snacks and water in the apartment. The kitchen has all the tools to make a meal although I wasn't interested in cooking on vacation. There is a restaurant on the corner for any late night food cravings as well(open until 4am). This was my first airbnb and I will definitely be coming back to L.A. and will be contacting Tobias to stay with him again. He's a super host.
If you're looking to stay in Hollywood definitely don't pass this place up... the location is right where you want to be.
1) Reaching the Apartment: Relatively easy. I arrived at LA Union Station and took the red metro line to Hollywood/Highland Station. From there, it took about 10 minutes to reach the apartment by foot. There are also some buses around the area, so the train is not the only option.
2) The Apartment Itself: The apartment is pretty big. It looks exactly like the photos posted by T.D., so you can definitely trust him on that. The beds and bathroom are clean and hygienic. There is also a television but the channels are limited; Netflix, CNN and TED are some of them. Unlike others, the wifi worked fine during my stay, so I guess I was quite lucky. I never got to meet T.D. during my stay, but he was responsive on Airbnb. Also, the instructions are very clear, so I only had to contact him a couple of times.
3) Location and Transportation: Being born and raised in Singapore, I am very accustomed to safety and convenience. Unfortunately, I think LA pales in comparison in these aspects. From my perspective, the apartment is in a dodgy neighborhood and I didn't feel safe walking alone on the streets at night. In fact, I always tried to reach the apartment before sunset. Nevertheless, I must say that Singapore is an extremely safe country and perhaps my expectations were too high. Having said so, I am quite a seasoned traveller and have been to approximately 30 countries to date, including places such as Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Turkey, Egypt, and China etc. With this in consideration, I still think LA and West Hollywood are relatively unsafe. Also, the city's public transportation system leaves much to be desired. My suggestion would be to rent a car if you intend to explore LA thoroughly. It is very time-consuming and inconvenient to travel around by public transportation.
Summary: Clean, looks exactly like the photos. Clear instructions on checking in and out. Responsive host. Dodgy neighborhood. Rent a car if possible.
Amazing experience! The place is as described and it's pretty close to everything. It was my first airbnb experience and honestly I had an amazing time. The room is clean, you have your own parking spot and the the most important it's a safe neighborhood. Would recommend to anyone .
My family had a great stay in TD's department for 4-day LA tour. The room is very clean, and well equiped with kitchen facilities, we made our breakfasts and dinners, the Ralph food market is just 5 min walk away from the department. The best all, the location of department is super good, we only need to walk to Sunset and Hollywood strips to see the famous scenes. There are many good tasted restaurants nearby the department, we expect to stay for more days to try every wonderful (website hidden) gave us some useful guidance about how to arrange city tour effeciently, with a hand made map and a lot of accurate GPS information.
I would stay here again if we plan anorher LA tour, for both the kindness of TD and the best cost value.
Wow this place was perfect for my first Hollywood adventure (and my first Air Bnb). Super convenient location between Hollywood and Sunset, easy walking to all the good stuff, secure parking, cute and quiet building. The apartment is clean and tidy. Felt like I was staying at a friends house. Everything was exactly as advertised, NO surprises. Beds are comfy. The best part is how easy the communication, check in ad check out process (website hidden) is very thorough and considerate. In the welcome email there was a YouTube video that walks you through check in. This made is so easy and took all the worry about showing up at a new place. After the video I felt perfectly prepared. I would definitely stay here again and definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay in this area. Can't beat it for the price!!!!
The apartment was great for what we needed. It was clean and convenient for going into Hollywood Blvd.
The check in instructions were clear and we didn't have a problem getting .
This was my first time using Air BnB and what a great experience! We had a lovely stay at the Hollywood (website hidden) was so thoughtful, my sister and I each had a banana and bagel waiting for us, as well as many other little offerings like milk in the fridge, soap and shampoo, bandaids, qtips...any of the little things you may need while traveling and forgot to pack. We also loved the location. We were walking distance to bars and restaurants, and only a 12 minute walk to Runyon Canyon.
One drawback: the WiFi service was terrible. We tried resetting the router but it did little good. We were disappointed, we couldn't use our laptops or tablets for anything, including any streaming services, nor did Netflix, Hulu, etc stream on the Roku provided. The HD antenna worked really well though, so we could watch some basic channels. It was frustrating though, since it was one of our few search priorities when choosing a place and we did end up spending over $100 a night to stay there. Not a minor concern.
Hmmmm, this review is honestly a bit strange as they stayed here for 4 days and didn't mention anything to me about any problems with WIFI. Of course, had we been advised of any issues we would have looked into it right away. As you can probably tell from more recent reviews, we haven't had any problems since and the WIFI is working great. I'm curious what the issue was here, but without communication we can't help out :) If you look in the review, you will notice it never says "We tried to contact T.D. about the problem and they didn't fix it". Why? Because no one ever told us about any problem!!
