The Space

THIS CHARMING ONE-BEDROOM APARTMENT is located in San Francisco's Noe Valley, which is the city's most desirable neighborhood for families and young professionals. The apartment has a private secure entrance from the street. The building dates from 1908, but the interior space was completely remodeled (from the studs) in 2007. The apartment has 9 1/2 foot ceilings, refinished original douglas fir wood floors and many other period details.

THE BEDROOM has a queen-size high end custom bed, two night tables, a cherrywood chest of drawers, and a large closet.

THE LIVING ROOM sofa converts into a full-size bed with a traditional bed-type mattress (not a thin sofabed mattress). The living room also has a 40" flat screen TV with cable & DVR.

A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN is just outside the living room French doors. The garden has flowering shrubs and a large hot tub!

THE KITCHEN is fully stocked with a gas range, blender, coffee maker, other appliances, pots & pans, and utensils. There also is a large gas grill on the garden patio.

THE BATHROOM contains an original marble counter and porcelain sink along with a full-sized modern bath tub. There is also a new full-length mirror in the door.

THE BUILDING contains three flats. This apartment is the ground floor "in-law" unit. There are two larger flats above. On the top floor is my family (my wife, myself, and our 3-year-old son). On the middle floor are my cousin's residence and my office. We all share access to the garden and hot tub.

OUR STREET AND NEIGHBORHOOD. We are on a quiet block with easy free street parking, but only 1/2 block to 24th Street, one of San Francisco's top restaurants and shopping districts. Whole Foods Market is only 4 blocks away, as is a large Saturday Farmer's Market with live music, prepared foods, and amazing produce from around California. Our corner also boasts a park with children's playground, tennis and basketball courts. The Noe Valley branch of the public library is a block and a half away. Continue down 24th Street a few more blocks and you are in the Mission District, home to dozens of the best bars, restaurants and shops in the City. Or leave our house and walk a different direction; in six blocks you will be in the Castro district, the heart of the City, with many more attractions.

PARKING is free on the street and easily available at most times.

PUBLIC TRANSIT is also plentiful and easy. The bus stops on our corner and goes directly in 5 minutes to the 24th Street BART station. (You can also walk to BART, which takes about 20 minutes). There are other city (Muni) bus and streetcar lines within a few blocks, which go downtown and to other neighborhoods. Public transit from the apartment to the downtown area takes less than 30 minutes. You can easily get to SFO (40 minutes) and OAK airports (1 hour) via BART.

OUR EXACT LOCATION is very close to the corner of "Douglass St & 24th St, San Francisco, CA". If you want to see how to get here, or how close we are to other attractions that interest you, I suggest you use an online map and input that intersection as your starting location. Then click on the "Get Directions" button, type your ending point, and choose whether you wish to travel by car, public transit, foot, or bicycle.

AVAILABILITY. It is not necessary to email me to check availability. The calendar is up to date, so if you have input your dates and are seeing my listing, the apartment is available. However, I cannot accept reservations more than 45 days in the future, because I keep it open for my family, so please check back closer to your travel dates.

PRICING is automatically computed, including discounts for more than a week's stay, and all taxes and fees, when you submit a reservation request. If you email me about pricing, I will unfortunately have to refer you back to the website for a correct calculation.

CHECK-IN TIME is any time after 3 pm. There are new lights in the entryway/key area, so it is ok to arrive late, as long as you are quiet and respectful of our neighbors. If you are arriving earlier, you can make arrangements to store your luggage in our garage.

Guest Access

You have access to your own private apartment as well as the shared garden space, which includes a patio, outdoor seating, a gas grill, and a fantastic hot tub!

Interaction with Guests

We allow our guests to enjoy their privacy. We are not likely to interact with you unless we happen to run into you on the street outside. But we're always available to help and to meet if you'd like.

The Neighborhood

NOE VALLEY is truly the best neighborhood in San Francisco. Because it is on the eastern side of the coastal mountains that divide the city, it is protected from much of the summer fog, keeping it sunny and warm. The neighborhood was built at the turn of the 20th century and still is mostly made up of Victorian and Edwardian buildings, mostly single-family or two-family homes. There are no high rises, and traffic is minimal, so the neighborhood is a great place to have a family, and you will see lots of kids. At the same time, because it is on the southern side of the city, it is closer to Silicon Valley, and many tech professionals have moved in, creating a demand for excellent restaurants and shopping.

OUR STREET We are on a quiet, flat block with easy free street parking. We are 1/2 block from 24th Street, one of San Francisco's top streets for restaurants and shopping districts. Whole Foods Market is only 4 blocks away, as is a large Saturday Farmer's Market with live music, prepared foods, and amazing produce from around California.

OUR CORNER boasts a park with children's playground, tennis and basketball courts. The Noe Valley branch of the public library is a block and a half away.

THE MISSION DISTRICT is just 8 blocks to the east from the apartment. Take a direct 5 minute bus or walk 20 minutes to be in the midst of dozens of the best bars, restaurants and shops in the City. "The Mission" gets its name from the Mission Dolores, founded in 1776 by Spanish missionaries.

THE CASTRO DISTRICT is just 6 blocks to the north from the apartment. Take another bus 5 minutes or walk 15 minutes to get there. The Castro was the traditional center of San Francisco's gay community and still is the heart of the annual Pride Festival. There are many great restaurants and bars there as well, as well as CIty's best movie theater and many other attractions.

From Noe Valley, you can easily get anywhere in the City

Getting around

Noe Valley is in the geographic center of San Francisco, which makes it very easy to get around.

PUBLIC TRANSIT is plentiful and easy. The Muni bus stops on our corner and goes directly in 5 minutes to the 24th Street BART station, which connects to downtown, to the airports and throughout the Bay Area.

PARKING is free on the street and easily available at most times.

TAXIS are easy to get, particularly if you have a smartphone. I can provide more information when you arrive about the apps to use, which allow you to get a cab or limo in less than 5 minutes.

WALKING and BIKING are also quite possible. Yes, there are hills, but they are probably less steep than you fear. We have done many walking and biking trips from the house to points all around the city, including Golden Gate Park, Ocean Beach, the Golden Gate Bridge, downtown, and many other places.

It is not necessary to email me to check availability. Simply submit your reservation, and I will review and approve. If it is more than 60 days until your arrival, and my apartment is visible to you, the apartment is not rented yet, but I need to keep it open in case my family needs it, so please check back closer to your travel dates.

  • The apartment has a great kitchen, a very comfortable bed and a nice garden. Check-in was very easy. We had a great time there.

    July 2014
  • Perfect place to feel like a local. Adam was a courteous host and his place is exactly what we were looking for. Would stay here again next time we're in the city.

    June 2014
  • The apartment is in a family friendly, upmarket, safe and quiet neighbourhood. The supermarket is approximately 15 minutes walk, with a bus stop about 5 minutes walk. Transport to downtown was about 45-60 minutes on the bus. We gave up our car the day we arrived, but would have struggled to find parking close to the house on that day.

The apartment was generally quiet (however any walking around by the tenants upstairs can be heard in the apartment - this was only a problem early in the morning when they got up early). The kitchen was well appointed, bedroom bed was comfortable, the pull out sofa was good for our daughter, and there was a good selection of TV channels. The keys to access the apartment were easy enough to find.

Adam was responsive, generally getting back to us quickly and was accommodating when we wanted to leave our luggage earlier than check-in.

The stay was hassle free and would have no hesitation recommending if Noe Valley is where you want to be.

  • Adam's place is super cute and comfy. The french doors open to bring the outside in. The bed is great. The kitchen does the trick.

    June 2014
  • We had a wonderful time staying at this charming apartment. Everything was perfectly appointed and VERY well organized. The size was perfect for me, my husband, and our 3-year old son. Adam was professional and responsive. We will definitely be staying here again!

    June 2014
  • Adam was very pleasant. The room/apt was great - clean and comfortable. Noe Valley is very quaint. There are a lot of excellent restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood. Phils just down the street has some of the best coffee I've ever tasted. It's about a 6-8 block walk to jump on the BART, not a bid stroll.

    May 2014
  • Good location near to our daughter and accommodations were quite adequate for our needs. We hope to be able to return during our next visit to San Francisco

    May 2014
  • My husband, brother and I stayed at Adam's apartment for 2 nights in May. The unit is on the ground floor of a home on a residential street a few blocks from the shops and restaurants of Noe Valley. The entrance to the apartment is obscure, but the instructions Adam supplied are very clear and complete. Be sure to read them thoroughly beforehand. We had to communicate with Adam shortly before our arrival and he responded very promptly, which we appreciated.

We found the apartment to be very clean and well supplied with the essentials. Adam has provided a binder in the apartment filled with information about the apartment and the surrounding area. It's worth a good look. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom spacious. For 3 older adults, the living area is relatively small (in terms of square footage), but access to the garden via the sliding glass doors increases the living space, allows in an abundance of natural light and creates a feeling of openness. We particularly appreciated the sense of privacy and security we felt while staying there. We hope to return soon.

  • What an amazing place in an amazing neighborhood.
    Thank you, Adam.

    May 2014
  • The one bedroom efficiency apartment is perfect for visits where days will be spent seeing the sights. Although small it has all the attributes and conveniences to allow it to be homey. The bedroom with double bed plus convertible couch was adequate and comfortable for two adults. There is a hot tub available, however, neither my grown daughter not I had the energy to use it after spending days and into the evenings with my son, daughter-in-law and 11 week old granddaughter. A wide screen tv, cable, and internet is available and worked well although only used for short periods in the morning and evenings. The apartment was clean, there (email hidden) supplies in the cabinets and the bathroom was well stocked. There was minimal noise from tenants above and no noise from outside. Philz coffee is 1/2 block away and Whole Foods Market is about 4 blocks away. There are also choices of restaurants, bars, shops and bakeries within walking distance. The location is very good for those wanting to be in the Noe Valley area of San Francisco. I will definitely be considering this location for future visits with my son and his family.
