The Space

We love our home and know you will too! The guest room is rather small (8" X 9") on the second level with a new full size bed, hardwood floors, ceiling fan, and a small closet. There are also 10 steps up to the front door so unfortunately it is not a good place if you have trouble with stairs.

There is only one shared bathroom. If you are staying during the week, we like to work out the morning schedule ahead of time to avoid conflict. It has never been an issue. Generally, the two of us are in there from 7:05-7:10 and 7:20-7:25, respectively.

Our cats are AGGRESSIVELY friendly and love to make visitors feel at home. Disclaimer: The cats will try to snuggle with you if you hang out on the couch or leave your door open. I keep the door to the guest room closed and wash everything in hot water between guests. The litter box is in a far corner in the basement. However, if you don't like cats or are allergic, this is probably not the place for you.

We are situated in an urban, eclectic, and very safe neighborhood. There is plenty of street parking on our street--However, the side streets require permits. We are close to the Short North, High Street, Goodale Park, Arena District, Clippers Stadium, and 1.5 miles from Ohio Stadium and the center of the OSU campus. Two fantastic cafes are only a few blocks away. We are centrally located to many of the area hospitals and have accommodated many guests working/studying at OSU, Riverside, & Mount Carmel West. Columbus State is 3.4 miles away or 9 minutes drive time. For the running or biking enthusiast, we are a few blocks from the Olentangy River Trail which runs through downtown to OSU and beyond. If you don't have a bike with you, you are welcome to borrow mine. Many guests visiting Ohio State have enjoyed this option. We have a small yard (some guests have camped there), patio, and porch with comfortable furniture. You are welcome to use the kitchen (including coffee pot, pans, rice steamer, microwave, etc.) and wireless internet/wifi. There is plenty of on-street parking and no permits are required. The COTA bus line has a main stop one block away. I keep maps of the bus lines in a portfolio for guests along with other helpful Columbus information. We have a washer/dryer in the basement, central air, and ceiling fans. We also have Cable and DVR. I DVR a lot of the Daily Show, Colbert, and of course, Discovery ID.

Guest Access

Kitchen, yard, grill, washer/dryer, iron, blow dryer etc. Basically, anything you forgot from home.

Interaction with Guests

Varies. I have become great friends with many visitors. Some, I never meet.

The Neighborhood

Everything in our neighborhood is cool. My neighbors, the homes, the history, the parks, the festivals and the restaurants all rock. It is pedestrian friendly, urban, and eclectic.

Getting around

COTA bus service has stops all around, I have numbers for taxis in a book in the room, and we have 2 bikes you can borrow.

Other Things to Note

Romans 15:7 says "welcome one another." I'm not a super religious person or anything but I like this verse and think it pertains nicely to this site.

Check In
  • Samantha provides a safe, cozy, friendly and clean environment. It is a perfect place to safe if you are in Columbus. The neighborhood is walkable with restaurants nearby. You can sit in the garden or on the porch and be joined by a couple of kitties who are pleasant hosts and hostesses as well. I felt at home.

  • Samantha is a beautiful soul. She was very considerate while I stayed with her and her sweet cats. She went out of her way to make my stay more comfortable. The bed was super comfortable too! The (very clean, bright and tidy) house is in a trendy and pretty neighborhood with cobbled streets. I had an easy-going and tranquil experience, so I highly recommend Samantha as a host in Columbus.

  • I have had the chance to stay at Samantha's for about a week. She is a very nice host and generous plus she gave me a lot of helpful tips about Columbus that made my life a lot easier. Also, I loved her cats and you will too if you are a cat person. I wish my cats were well behaved as hers. The room was nice, clean and it felt cozy. My only advice is to bring an umbrella/raincoat with you Columbus is one of these places where it is sunny one minute and the next it is pouring rain. I learnt that the hard way. All together, it was a lovely place to spend my week.

  • I needed a convenient and affordable place to crash for a weekend convention in Columbus, and I was NOT happy that the hotels downtown charged an arm and a leg. This was where AirBNB descended from the heavens with what I can only assume was a chorus of angels, and it was here that I found Samantha's listing.

Samantha was incredibly courteous and fun as a host, and very helpful in answering all my questions about her rental room and any accommodations. I didn't really see her all that much considering how much I was sightseeing around the city, but as a host she made me feel casually right at home when I did get back from playing tourist.

The place itself was very nice for what I had paid. It was a small bedroom with a private bathroom just down the hall, and a kitchen downstairs with drinks that Samantha said I was welcome to if I wanted. (This one was a huge relief considering those other hotels charge you another arm and leg for drink service.) There were a couple of playful and curious cats that like to go around exploring the house, and I guess I warmed up to them quickly because within the first hour the adorable little fluffballs were following me everywhere.

I was almost sorry to leave the place because of the great experience I had seeing the sights and enjoying Samantha's hospitality. I will be sure to recommend her listing to anyone looking for a very well-priced and comfortable place to lay down for the night in Columbus, and thanks again to Samantha for being such a great host!

  • We had a great time in Columbus at Samantha. The house is in a very good neighborhood, close to busy High St and not far from downtown. Public transport is convenient. Our room was spacious, using the shared bathroom was also OK, no waiting or any inconveniencies. Samantha's communication was excellent, we only met on the third day personally but we had everything we needed. The two cats are sweet and curious. I recommend this place, we would stay here when again in Columbus.

  • I'm so glad that I decided to stay with Samantha during my trip to Columbus. She was accommodating and went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible. I also enjoyed having her cats around, and warmed up to me very quickly.

The surrounding neighborhood is moreover gorgeous and very safe. It's very conveniently located and is easily accessible by bus (Cbus or COTA), which is wonderful! I'll definitely recommend staying with Samantha!

I graduated from Ohio State in 2006 and I recently completed my MBA. I work in Outreach for a natural gas utility rebate program for commercial/industrial energy efficiency projects. I love to travel and used this site to find a room during my last trip to Europe. I am a Columbus enthusiast--I've been here for 12 years and absolutely love the city: The people here are friendly and the Victorian homes in my neighborhood are charming. I am happy to make recommendations for shopping, transportation, and dining in the area.
