In the heart of the leafy west end close to the buzz of the university area, a luxurious, large room with double bed and en suite bathroom. Close to museums, shops, restaurants, bars and transport which will whisk you into the city centre in minutes.
Fabulous bright large room with luxury ensuite bathroom in a converted house in a quiet corner of the West End of Glasgow. Come and enjoy the grandeur of a Glasgow apartment and share our sitting room with its high ceiling and great views, and our large kitchen. When the sun shines, enjoy access to the lovely beautifully kept garden shared with our neighbours.
We are minutes away from bus stops (including airport bus) and the suburban train station, with frequent trains to the city centre and to Edinburgh. You can also travel from here on the world famous Glasgow Subway- an underground like no other. Plenty of parking too in the driveway. So a great place for visiting the city's theatres, art galleries, concerts - not to mention the splendid shops. We are also perfectly placed to explore the West End on foot including Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Riverside Museum and Glasgow University. For shoppers, you have specialist shops and delicatessen on the door step and an embarrassment of fabulous cafes and restaurants from the cheap and cheerful to the award winning.
We provide continental breakfast with home made goodies including muesli, bread and marmalade-- along with fresh fruit, coffee tea etc. You will have access to wifi and your room includes TV, hair dryer, straighteners. We even stretch to comfy dressing gowns and electric blanket. We have a spare single camp bed or inflatable double mattress available for use by child. If you give plenty of notice, we will locate a travel cot if required.
We have an extensive knowledge of the cultural scene in Glasgow (and Edinburgh) and look forward to providing you with 'top tips' to make your special and memorable.
Finally, two myths about Glasgow. First, that it is a violent and dangerous city. There is no denying that the city has its crime problems related to drink, drugs and poverty. However tourists are never the target for this kind of crime and it is a safe in Glasgow as you would find in any other similar sized city. Again we can advise on keeping safe.
Second, it rains all the time. True, Glasgow is in the west of the country and does get its fair share of rain. It never gets very cold, nor does the temperature rise to uncomfortable levels even in midsummer. It is perfect weather for sight seeing and, there is plenty to do in and outdoors. However, as you pack to travel to visit, remember the words of comedian Billy Connolly, one of the city’s famous sons, ‘There's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing, so get yourself a sexy raincoat and live a little.’
Please note- there are internal stairs and unfortunately the property is not accessible for those with walking problems.
***NEWS*** Glasgow has just introduced a bike hire system like other big cities and we have purchased a season ticket. £5 deposit for day use. Refund any unused credit. Ask for details!
There is a fridge in your room -along with a kettle and everything you need for breakfast. However you are free to use our kitchen if you want to cook a meal.
Interaction with Guests
We will be around during your stay and happy to provide you with ideas and tips for your visit to Glasgow. If by chance we have to be away we will arrange for a friend to be around to look after you -- and the cats!
The West End of Glasgow is safe, leafy, with wonderful architecture and has all the buzz which a university area enjoys. As well has having access to the big supermarkets, there is also a huge range of independent shops and some great specialist restaurants and bars.
We are five minutes from the underground, bus routes, suburban trains, and airport link bus. You can get a train from the end of the road which takes you in one direction to Edinburgh and the other to Loch Lomond. We often get around the local area on bikes and happy to recommend places where you can hire for your stay. We also have room for p to two bikes to be stored in our porch and we very much welcome those travelling around on bikes.
Other Things to Note
We have realised how hard it can be for our guests arriving from abroad to do simple things like calling for a taxi, making a telephone reservation at a restaurant or even sending us a text to ask for some info. So we can provide you with a UK mobile phone/cell phone for the duration of your stay with £10 credit. We will take a deposit which you will get back less cost of any calls when you return at end of your stay. Ask about this when you make your booking.
If you fancy seeing Glasgow by bike, don't forget to ask about the Glasgow Bike Hire scheme. We have a season ticket for guests' use - only £5 deposit.
There is no smoking anywhere in the apartment.
The ensuite bathroom is fitted with a special pump to dispose of the water from the toilet, washhand basin and bath. Nothing other than toilet paper should be put down the toilet. Please put all rubbish in bin provided.
We provide breakfast in room but for same reason as above, dirty dishes, coffee grounds tea bags etc should be disposed of in the kitchen.
Check - in 4pm and check out 10 am- please ask if you want to arrive earlier or leave later and I will do my best to accommodate you.
Christine is a wonderful host, thorough and welcoming. The room has everything one could want in a B&B and more: breakfast items in the room, tea, coffee, a small refrigerator in the room filled with milk, orange juice, filtered water and yogurt, chocolates by the bedside, breakfast items and fresh fruit. The room is clean and comfortable, with crisp cotton sheets and even an electric mattress pad for warmth. The location is great too. I was able to walk a couple of blocks to find an excellent restaurant for dinner, and for my care parking was easy and safe. Finally, Christine went out of her way to help me find a good place to hike at the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and gave me printed maps, directions, and even encouragment! I can't say enough good things about my experience!
We had a great stay at Christine's, it really was luxury. The room was very big, the ensuite was amazing and breakfast, tea/coffee was fully catered for. The rest of the flat was also beautiful. Christine was the perfect host, she gave us lots of useful information. The location was very good and Glasgow was beautiful in the sunshine. I would highly recommend and I am sure we will be back whatever we are in Glasgow again!
Christine was a delightful host, very welcoming and warm. The room is very spacious and was great to stay in for a month. The place is conveniently placed a mere 5 mins from Partick train and subway station. Christine even welcomed me to Scottish culture inviting me to her Burns Supper.
I stayed at Fortrose Manor at short notice, and had 1 night that did not fit into the available slot. Christine rearranged to suit, very admirably, and so I had a week while doing a course in Glasgow. Thus I was not a regular tourist, and had not the time and oppurtunity to utilise all the ample local information that was in the room; a shame. First impressions of the room, Down a small flight of stairs from the entry hallway, were of a light, roomy, welcoming room With bed and furnishings very attuned to take advantage of the room. The small table was adorned With a big basket of assorted fruit which lasted me a week of making my fruit salad for breakfast. Yoghurts in the frig, and a jug of milk, juice and water. 2 large glass cannisters of a delicious homemade granola, used for breakfast and snacks, it was so yummy, and a tasty muesli, small Loaf of healthy bread, 2 pots of jam, and proper coffee and cafetierre in the room to have proper coffee in the morning, which is an enormous plus for coffee drinkers. Not least also, the chocolate truffles on the bedside table, which I shortsightedly ate all on the 1st evening. Dressing gowns and enough drawers to unpack and be a little bit civilized instead of tossing everything everywherein Your suitcase. So well set up that I can't thin k of anything of any importance to Write on a negatives list.
Close to the city, easy Public transport Connections.
Would have no hesitation to recommend the house as a Place to stay in Glasgow.
Big bedroom apart from the house with its own bathroom. Comfortable, cosy and modern. The (beautiful) manor is in a calm neighbourhood and near all facilities to eat and take subway. Christine was a warming host with us and try to speak French for us when we can't understand English. She adviced us to organize our time in Glasgow.
I live with my partner Lesley and our two cats Smokey and Ziggy in our beautiful flat in the West End Glasgow. I have worked in the arts, mainly theatre, for 35 years living most of this time in Glasgow since I arrived at Glasgow University asa student. I now run my own arts consultancy from home. Lesley is a qualified solicitor, experienced in employment law, and currently works in human resources for a large organisation.
I am an avid theatre goer - usually two or three times a week - and enjoy other arts events too! I love sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for my city and my country with visitors.
