Altrocanto is located in the strong and gentle land of the Abruzzo, in the remote village of Farindola, at the feet of a majestic mountain. Far from crowds, from chaos, and from indiscreet eyes, Altrocanto is our long sought dream, finally realized, with love and attention.
This is a place of calm, slow days, lost time found again, reading; a place for the rediscovery of taste; and a starting place for joyful daytrips, cultural visits and silent pilgrimages.
We are pleased to host you in five rooms, all differently decorated, and all with private bathroom. One room is wheelchair-accessible.
Our guests may take advantage of our garden, our reading corner, the living room with a fireplace, a library, free internet wifi, and free tea and coffee.
Altrocanto is located in a building constructed at the beginning of the 20th century as a brick factory, then converted into a private house in the ‘20s.
The restoration has preserved the original structure, adding space to the rear of the facility and a new wood roof: demolition has been kept to a minimum, while wood, stone, and bricks are the only materials used for roof, floor, windows, doors, and decorations. Primer and paint are natural pigment-based and without chemical solvents (supplied by Springcolor.) Wood surfaces have been treated only with natural bee’s wax and linen oil.
The house is provided with solar cells for the production of electricity and hot water; the house is heated by a boiler which burns waste produced by neighboring olive oil presses. Rainwater is gathered and used for the garden. We practice recycling and composting.
