Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Built in 1846, this sanctuary has been fully and tastefully renovated into a spacious and luxurious home.

At 170 years old, our church has been gracing the downtown area since the canal days of Lafayette’s past. Now a private home with 3 spacious bedrooms, 3 full baths, a full kitchen and sprawling entertainment area… all just steps from everything downtown has to offer! Come and envelop yourself in history and comfort

The space
At over 1,850 square feet of living space, you and your family can feel free to spread out during your stay in individual rooms and spaces, but then come together for meals and group relaxation in the massive original chapel hall with 22’ ceilings, exposed wooden beams, and lovingly preserved stained glass. Moved over 5 times by horse and cart since the original construction in 1846 until its placement on its current plot in 1890, Hope Chapel claims the title of Lafayette’s oldest standing religious structure. Used as everything from a school house to a funeral home, it’s been lost in hands of poker, taken over by rogue preachers, housed a textile school, and served as innumerable ministries and purposes. Hope Chapel has seen countless weddings, baptisms and watched people grow old . Only two years ago, Hope Chapel was almost lost from history forever from decades of neglect and forgetfulness. Now fully and thoughtfully restored to its original Greek Revival aesthetic and enhanced with modern amenities Hope Chapel has been historically protected and will continue to be a jewel in the downtown community for generations to come.

Hope Chapel includes 3 separate and private bedrooms including the velvet room - featuring a king-sized antique bed with a hand carved frame and a stunning 7’ tall antique wardrobe just off of the main chapel hall; the Red Room - an oversized queen suite with an original rosewood and marble top dresser and men’s dressing stand with a private bathroom and separate entrance attached; the Green room - formerly part of the priests’ quarters, is a quaint room with a full sized bed and a private bathroom and separate entrance.

Enjoy cooking meals in our full-sized and well-equipped kitchen, feel free to use any spices, oils, or other cooking products we may have on hand. We are happy to serve locally roasted coffee and an organic tea selection as well as shelf-stable creamer and sugar. We hope you will make a cup in the mornings and sit on one of our antique parlor couches and enjoy the details that are around every corner of our church, from stained glass to the hand-selected and preserved books and antiques.

At over 170 years old, our church has no lack in character, but that doesn’t mean you will forsake modern amenities or luxury. Our church features high-speed fiber internet, white noise machines in every bedroom, a hidden laundry room, central heating and cooling, and more. Take some time for yourself and slip into a bath in our oversized two-person soaking tub inside the heart-stopping main bathroom where you will find a giant glass walk-in shower and a repurposed solid oak antique buffet-turned-vanity.

Just three blocks from the historic downtown shopping district, you will find a plethora of dining and shopping spots. We encourage you to stroll the vibrant and historic Main Street and stop in an art gallery or coffee shop. Maybe you will be lucky enough to have booked a stay during one of Lafayette’s many lively downtown events such as Mosey Down Main Street or the Taste of Tippacanoe, and will be able to join in on the festivities before taking a casual stroll back to your accommodations for the evening where you can unwind with a glass of wine and connect with friends and family.

Regardless of your reasons for visiting Greater Lafayette, we know that you will absolutely fall in love with not only our church but the entire neighborhood and area - we look forward to hosting you!

Guest access
Guests are welcome to explore the entire church but we do ask that guests not spend much time if any in the old, hand-dug basement as it has many hazards and is just creepy.

There are no interior shared spaces so no worries about stumbling in the wrong area, however you may notice when going up the walkway to the south there are two doors - the one to the back has a separate address and is a different private residence. Our tenant lives there and does not prefer to interact with guests. Please avoid the last part of the walkway and their door and patio areas.

Other things to note
we have available a queen size air mattress, and linens.
