Comfort and Location! This charming Cambridge apartment is on the first floor of our 2-family home on quiet, pretty Hollis Street, steps from Davis Square (Somerville) and Porter Square (Cambridge), including Harvard Sq. which is 1.5 miles away. You won't need a car - we are next to public transportation to Boston, its colleges and medical centers, and all surrounding communities. Save significant money if you rent more than 31 days because there will be no state or local taxes.

The space
This is a legal short-term rental, certified by the City of Cambridge, under its recent short-term rental ordinance. Weekly stays are available in July and August 2023. But there is no tax if you stay more than 31 nights!

The apartment is perfect for visiting faculty or graduate students and their families interested in a longer-term rental of a month or more.

The first floor apartment itself is a tastefully furnished two-bedroom, with a dining room, living room, study, one full bathroom, walk-in closet, and a newly-renovated eat-in kitchen. There is one queen-size bed in one bedroom and two twin beds in the other bedroom, so it sleeps four. The kitchen is fully equipped; there is a large flat screen TV (cable TV optional for long-term rentals) and Wifi, and a washer and dryer in the basement. We do have air-conditioning through mini-splits in the living room and kitchen (keeping common spaces cool) and individual widow air-conditioners in both bedrooms.

Our photos say it all…this is a cozy (but roomy), comfortable place to stay while you are in the Boston-Cambridge-Somerville area. Whether it is for business, pleasure, visiting the area colleges and universities or medical centers, you will feel at home on our quiet street just steps from busy Massachusetts Avenue.

Guest access
You have the whole apartment for yourselves, with your own front and back entrances. You have your own washer and dryer in the basement. Sit out on the back porch and yard and enjoy the garden! There is limited on-street parking. Ask me about longer-term parking options. My husband and I live upstairs on the second and third floors.

Other things to note
Utilities may be included for short-term stays. Check with me!

There is a pretty Catholic Church on the corner of Hollis Street and Massachusetts Avenue, with church bells that ring throughout the day (but not at night). Other places of worship are within walking distances or accessible by public transportation.

Neighborhood highlights

This is a safe neighborhood with a lot of open space. Besides our yard, which is considered large by city standards, there is a school with public playing fields, two playgrounds, and public tennis courts at the end of the street on Rindge Avenue. Right around the corner, on Sherman Street, there is a giant public park - Danehy Park - with playgrounds and playing fields, trails for walking and jogging, and in the winter, a giant hill for sledding.

The location gets even more perfect....You can get easily anywhere and everywhere from Hollis Street without a car. Walk, bike, or take public transportation. You will be close to the major universities, museums, medical centers, and other attractions of the Boston- Cambridge area. Hip Davis Square (Somerville) is just short five -minute walk, with its historic movie theater and great restaurants. There are many other restaurants right around the corner on Massachusetts Avenue, like Urban Kitchen (American), Café Barada (Middle-Eastern), Greek Corner (Greek), and Frank’s Steakhouse (American). You can also walk to Jose’s Mexican Restaurant or Grand Gusto Tretorria (Italian) on nearby Sherman Street. There are Asian restaurants in the neighborhood too.

Pemberton Farms and Market is diagonally across from Hollis Street on Massachusetts Avenue. This is a wonderful market with farm-fresh produce and specialty foods, a deli, bakery, wine and beer, and excellent meat and fish. Have one of their delicious sandwiches and sip coffee sitting with the flowers at a table in their greenhouse! Shaws/Star Market is a huge supermarket in Porter Square (.5 miles) with everything you could possibly need. Whole Foods is also very close by. Food shopping could not be easier from your home-base.
