The B & B Il Ciottolo is a family structure, consisting of 3 bedrooms with a large bathroom. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The neighborhood is residential in the green overlooking the sea, but near the center. there are wi-fi free.
Il Ciottolo is a cool solution for those who do not want to go to an aseptic place, but feel immersed in the warmth of a home.
The operators are a young couple that, through travel experiences and long stays abroad, is able to understand the "tourist".
The house, an ancient typical genoense one, grit floored, from sea and “creuze” sight will make you feel straight amongst the notes of De Andrè.
The double rooms have views of the sea and green area, so there are much light and silence.

After travelling one month in Italy, when I found this place for me was like heaven... The Best bed I had ever sleep before! In a beautiful place as well. I totally recomend it! Plus the breakfast was sweet :) thanks manuela!
This was a well located, well run, and very friendly operation. It would be a pity if you took the negative review below too seriously; the operator was helpful and generous with her time, despite having a young child to look after. The child was in a different part of the building, and the one time I heard him crying I simply shut my door and I couldn't hear him any more. In fact, this was the most professional and quietest place I have stayed in Italy, and while the breakfast buffet isn't anything special, it has breakfast staples, and you are surrounded by lovely little stores with great snacks.
The transport was very easy, actually it was about 5 minutes walk to Genova Brignoli station, so if the buses had been down it would have been very easy to get there from the central station. The host recommended some great side trips to nearby towns, they are well worth a look.
NIGHTMARE spoiled my trip, to Genova,!! THIS IS NOT A BED AND BREAKFAST! IT IS A HOSTEL ! Genova has better choices be warned.
The aggressive and false review that this person, sent about me, shows that she is unable to deal with people who speak her language fluently, if you read the reviews about me you will see what others say.
She is unable are unable to give a warm welcome and friendliness, . This experience was more like a teenage hostel, and should not be allowed to use air b and b which is built on trust. I repeat This experience was more like a hostel , and not a b and b.
When I arrived, at no stage was I welcomed or shown arround the apartment. In fact i was too scared to ask which door led to the bathroom.! As she would start another tirade, about answering simple requests, because as she told me 20 times she could not be stressed because she was breastfeeding her 4 month old baby, who screamed through the night.
This situation is not compatible with a bed and breakfast ! the other guests who were a bunch of italian teeenagers sleeping three to a room, giggled and slammed doors half the night, the only bathroom is shared between 5 or six guests and is the only Toilet in the house.
Talking about feeling attacked, she accused me of leaving my bra in the bathroom and asked me 4 times if I was sure It was not mine. I said no politely each time she continued to insinuate I did not know it was mine! I suggested it could be one of the other guests.
When i arrived and called her from my phone after exchanging three emails before arrival as i do and advising her by phone I had arrived,I asked what floor the apartment was on, no answer. I then got into the building but did not know which floor, she was on,
so called her to ask her she said she was coming, down. Quite some minutes later I was still unable to know which floor it was on. I heard her coming down, the stairs, and so to to save her the trouble. shouted up to her not to come down but just to tell me which floor , she refused to. and so that was my welcome, and for this I was called agressive! Her husband shouted at me that he was having his breakfast at 12.30 am and did not want to hear me!!
I certainly wasnt ever welcomed, in fact I was attacked. I was too afraid when I returned that night, even to ask them which door was the toilet for fear it was their room!!
There are so many great choices to stay, in Genova dont let these people ruin your visit as they did mine.
Normally I would stay with my friend Edmondo who has a fantastic bed and breakfast in piazza del lepre Genova, right in town, unfortunately they were not available during my visit! Stay there, its fantastic, they will give you a wonderful welcome and make you feel at home and show you around. their apartment is wonderful too.
This is my first bad experience as a guest with air b and b and ive stayed many places, check my profile.
Then later that night on my return at 8pm she demanded my document , saying it was the law in Italy. i live in Italy, so she was, unable to fool me. but I gave it to her anyway, saying gently that this was not practiced among air b and b guests who work on trust. Her and your husband then proceeded to make loud and rude comments about me in Italian, which of course I understood.
when I have guests I welcome them, them show them every detail of the house, and do whatever I can to make them welcome. I certainly give them a decent breakfast. too and the train and bus timetable.
Manuela drives around in a car, so I doubt she uses the bus service she suggests. it is VERY INfrequent!!
So if you chose to stay in this Hostel, be warned, it is not a bed and breakfast!!! the breakfast will be stale bread and a factory produced cake snack. no yougurt, fruit or anything!!
You should know that there is only one bathroom among 6 people. The bus service is very infrequent, and us way up a long steep hill, not in the centre at all. There is only one bus, and the information, she gives you on where to get this bus at the station is complely wrong! i wasted hours following her information.
if its a Sunday, as it was with me, the bus runs very occasionally, you will be stranded, unless you get a taxi or walk for 30 minutes!
Manuela suggested That people should walk from the station with luggage, this is crazy, its impossible.
Il Ciottolo is a great place to stay in beautiful Genova. It's located near the center with a beautiful view over the city to the sea. You can reach it easily by walking or taking the bus from the station. The rooms are big, very clean, bright, quiet with a very beautiful sealing, furniture and floor. Manuela is such a lovely host, very kind, uncomplicated and gives alot of good informations about where to go. Breakfast was very good and there was everything i needed. I hope to be back soon!
Manuela was very nice! My plane came in around midnight, which would normally be too late for check in, but she arranged to leave a key at a local bar for me. Thanks!
good price for perfect location very near the centre of Genoa, in a very nice building.
It is very interesting for those who want to experience how the Italian live and travel without going to boring hotels.
The place was a really nice traditional style Italian appartment with mosaic floor and the beds were comfy. Manuela was really nice and fun but the breakfast was a bit basic. Definitely take the bus from the station, streets in Genova are steep and hard to navigate.
NIce place in the heart of Genova, I highly reccommend it!
Good location- walkable to all of Genoa- in an old, large building. Uphill from the train station, so must take a bus (about 10 minutes). Manuela was a gracious host. Shared bathroom.
This is a lovely bnb and Manuela is the perfect host - welcoming, informative, helpful, and friendly. The room was very comfortable, beautifully decorated, and clean. The shared bathroom was spacious and very clean. The bnb is walking distance from the old town (approximately 10 min, possibly a little longer on the way back as its a steep uphill climb!) and right near the bus stop that goes to the old town and station. I had a good stay at Il Ciottolo bnb and would recommend it to other travellers.
