Cozy completely renovated 2 Bedroom (one with queen bed and one with twin bed) one bath apartment near FSU & FAMU Campus and about one mile from the Capitol. Shower has chlorine filter and huge showerhead. Tankless water heater means showers can last as long as you like. The queen bed is super comfortable Simmons Beautyrest and you will sleep amazingly well on it. The twin bed is comfortable but basic.
Our ground floor apartment is within walking distance of the FSU football stadium, but is in a secluded eclectic neighborhood filled with big live oaks and pecan trees, and is adjacent to Lake Elberta, with a nice walking trail. This is NOT a college student complex. Most of the residents own their units and work during the day, so it is very quiet. This is not your typical urban apartment complex. The residents are all super nice and will go out of their way to help you. The condo owners all know each other and have a great community garden you should visit.
I have a nice assortment of dishes and cookware, there are plenty of clean towels, and the beds are freshly made up with cotton sheets and pillowcases. Just added an ironing board and iron and hairdryer for your use.
You can sit out on your private porch and watch the birds and the sunset. There is a coin laundry in the condo complex and a community center that can be rented for meetings and gatherings. Apartment is clean and was completely renovated in 2008. Large closet, and lots of storage. No pets or smoking is allowed. Floors are painted concrete.
Our apartment is close to Gaines Street and Railroad Avenue (lots of good locally owned restaurants) and Railroad Square Art Park--center of Tallahassee's art scene. But Tallahassee is unfortunately not yet a great walkable city and you will probably like having a car to get to most shopping, dining, and attractions.
Great place for bicycles. It's right next to St Marks Trail and Lake Elberta.
Be sure to check out the GUIDEBOOK tab on this listing page for suggestions of where to eat and visit while staying here. You can see the locations on a map. Most listings are in the area.
There is a bus line about three blocks from the apartment, but Tallahassee buses come by only about twice an hour, except for one line that runs every 20 minutes on weekend nights. Apartment is about one mile from FSU but you might want a car to get around town.
Be sure to check the Guidebook I prepared for things to do and places to shop and eat in the area. College Town, just a few blocks away, which features bars and restaurants--bagels, pizza, and more.
Guests will have complete access to the apartment and also have access to the grounds and to a shared coin-laundry.
Interaction with Guests
I will meet you when you arrive and give you the access code to the apartment. I will be available to answer any questions or concerns. I am also happy to offer recommendations for places to eat and things to do.
The apartment condominium complex itself is populated by a mix of ages from college students to retirees, but most are working folks and craftspeople. Some are teachers and some are business owners. The Stearns Mosely neighborhood where the complex is located is very small. Many of the lots are cleared but there are lots of large live oak trees. The neighborhood was established in the early 1900's by employees of the former Elberta Crate Factory, and is traditionally African American, but is very eclectic these days. It is tucked away but right between FSU and FAMU, just off of Gaines Street near College Town.
There is a bus stop at Gaines and Stone Valley Road, about three blocks away, but bus service in Tallahassee is only about twice an hour. Cars or bicycles are recommended
Please respect the furnishings and treat our apartment as your home away from home. No smoking alowed inside or pets. No late night noise is allowed that will disturb the neighbors. Please turn off the central air/heat when leaving and take out the trash on your way out to the car.
The area was totally, unexpectedly, adorable. The neighbors were quiet and seemed friendly. Definitely an eclectic area close to campus which was perfect for us being that were college students.
We stayed in Ruth's apartment for FSU orientation. The apartment is conveniently located very near to the FSU campus. Although the apartment building looks a bit "sketchy" on the outside, the apartment itself was clean and comfortable. Ruth was great and very responsive and informative.
I think Ralph's description of sketchiness was due to the artistic eclectic nature of our little neighborhood. Some of the neighbors stuff spill out onto their porches but they are all great folks who are ready to help our guests with info or more. They might even share some veggies from the community garden.
Excellent accommodations. The apartment was very clean, comfortable and well-appointed. The cable, Netflix and wi-fi all worked well. The neighborhood is very quiet and pleasant and is within walking distance of Gaines Street and FSU. Ruth was a very nice hostess, checking in to make sure everything was ok and flexible when it looked like I might need to stay another day. I'll be back next time my job takes me to Tallahassee. Highly recommended.
Great place to stay. The description was accurate and it exceeded our expectations. Ruth stopped by to show us around the place and make sure we didn't have any questions. Spent four nights here and would definitely recommend, both for location and comfort.
We had a wonderful weekend stay at Ruth's. This is definitely one for the "don't judge a book by its cover" category. The complex is very eclectic or as my daughter described it, very hipster. Ruth's apartment was great. We had everything we needed and then some. The complex was very quite even though it is just a couple of blocks from College Town. Thanks for an amazing stay. We hope to be back when football season starts!
We had a great experience during our stay! Ruth was flexible with making our travel times work for check in and checkout. She met us and made sure we had everything we needed right on time. Like other reviewers have noted, the neighborhood seems a little strange at first but ends up being really nice! It was quiet at night even though we were staying over a weekend. The apartment was also very clean and well air conditioned.
Host was wonderful and very accommodating as well as informative about Tally. As other reviewers mentioned, neighborhood looked sketchy at first but was really nice in reality. Apartment was basic but comfortable. I would definitely stay again if it was available.
About the Host, Ruth
I work part-time at Railroad Square Art Park (just a few blocks away from the apartment), and also work as business manager and publicist for my husband--Bill "Sauce Boss" Wharton--who is a national-touring Blues musician. I like to read, write, cook, garden and travel. I am happy to share my knowledge of fun things to do in Tallahassee and great little local shops and restaurants. I travel a lot with my husband, so I can totally relate to how important it is to have a restful convenient place to stay (with a full kitchen too).
