The space

As your hosts, our aim is to provide you with the opportunity to enjoy a different kind of Costa Rica. With spring-like temperatures in a paradise setting, we believe you'll take away memories you won't soon forget. Hush Valley Lodge is nestled in a quiet valley next to the Perez river in the Dota mountains. Explore and discover the diverse wildlife on the property. There are over 200 different species of birds in the area, including the Resplendent Quetzal. Thirty-five acres provide many hiking trails for the ultimate forest bathing experience. Our exclusive B&B accommodation is fully equipped with all the creature comforts. Breakfast is included and dinner meals are available upon request ($15 US per person).

Hot water on demand • Sky satellite TV • Cell phone reception • Wireless internet connection available in the guesthouse

Things to do:
• Forest bathing and hiking on our many trails
• Pesca Rio Blanco, an authentic Tico restaurant (5-minute walk)
• Neighbouring fruit orchard tour with the most exquisite views (10-minute walk)
• Horseback riding with a local guide
• Coopedota coffee plantation and processing plant tour (15-minute drive)
• Three typical Dota towns: Copey, Santa Maria and San Marcos

We are happy to organize day trips with local businesses.
Let us know what you'd like to see and experience and we'll do everything we can to help you.

Guest access

FREE property tour (approx 1.5 to 2 hrs) where guests will have the opportunity to see the process of raising trout from fingerlings to adult stage in our natural ponds. Everything is done in conjunction with nature. Some lucky guests have seen the elusive Quetzal during the tour.

Interaction with guests

We like to strike the right balance with our guests. We are here for you. Before you arrive, we prefer communicating via email to make sure all your questions are answered. We're also happy to arrange local tours. Having said that, once you're here, we respect your need for privacy and this is why all meals are brought to you to eat in the privacy of the guesthouse. Meal times are flexible based on your preferred schedule. This is your holiday, and we do everything we can to provide you with the best experience. (Please note, due to kitchen limitations, I can only prepare one type of meal at a time, just like home. But the choice is yours: you can catch your own trout, have shepherd's pie, chicken, pasta, pizza, soups and salads). All meals come with homemade dessert, too.

Other things to note

The Los Santos region, where we live, is considered Costa Rica's prime coffee producer. The Coopededota is the world's first carbon neutral coffee processing plant. They provide a tour for $22 U.S. per person and is well worth it, expecially during peak coffee-picking season (January to April).

This region is also known for its bird watching. There are hundreds of species to observe in their natural habitat.

Anne and Kevin were the best hosts we have ever had the pleasure to stay with! What they have done to the property shows the love and dedication they have put in to making Hidden Valley Lodge what it is today. The Dota region is such a special place and staying there gives you a much more real Costa Rican experience than the bigger tourist areas of the country. Make sure to do the coffee tour because it will forever change how you view coffee and the process that goes into it. I highly recommend for everyone to stay here. It is such a surreal experience staying in this hidden gem and enjoying the breathtaking property. Getting to catch your own trout and have the most delicious meals brought into your own cozy casita is an unmatchable experience. Take the hikes and explore the property because it is too superb to miss! Make sure to give Bobby extra lovin because she is the best hiking companion (and will show you the right paths to take if confused!) We hope to come back one day and experience this magical paradise with the new owners Krista and Dave. We know the beauty and charm that Kevin and Anne have put into the place will carry over into good hands. Now it's time for the new owners to have this place change their lives for the better as it did for Anne and Kevin! If you have found this place through airbnb and are considering it but unsure due to not many reviews yet, just book it and you will not regret it! We were the last guests of the previous owners, and the new owners will start fresh with their airbnb for this place. If we could give it 10 stars we would. A truly unique unforgettable experience you will not forget!

I would give Hush Valley 6 stars if I could! It was absolutely amazing and one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Kevin and Anne were EXCELLENT hosts, and were very attentive and helpful when we needed things. Their property is just unbelievably beautiful. The road driving down there is steep, so I highly recommend 4WD vehicles, although you might be able to do it in a 2WD car with some clearance and good tires The country was so beautiful. If you want to get out in the country, don't miss this spot!!! We used the authentic wood burning stove to cook several meals, and that was one of my favorite parts.

This was such a great experience staying in their charming casita. Anne and Kevin provided everything needed for a wonderful stay. Wood for the woodstove made it cozy warm at night. What all was provided: a loaf of fresh-baked bread, butter, home-made jam, fresh eggs, ground coffee, milk, tea, soap, wifi, games, books, etc, etc. We just can't say enough about how Anne and Kevin made our stay sublime. Kevin even spotted and filled up a flat tire for us on the morning we left, and Anne led us to a place to get the tire repaired in Sta Maria. We asked Anne to cook for us both nights (once at 10 pm on the night of our arrival) we were there and it was absolutely delicious. Kevin gave us an extensive tour of their trout farm. Great hiking. We would highly recommend Hush Valley Lodge.

This is truly amazing place in Costa Rica. We realized it after traveling through other parts of the country. If you want to unite with and explore a nature this is the place to be. This place located at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) ft above sea level in a small canyon next to a rapid mountain river. A 20-25 minute drive takes you to Copedota - coffee capital of CR. Anne can help you with arranging a coffee tour. And Kevin can give you a tour of trout farm - very unique experience. Ask Anne to make lunch and/or dinner for you. The food is all local, natural and super delicious. Thank you a lot Anne and Kevin!

We felt welcome 100% of the time we were there. Anne and Kevin made us feel very at home and at ease. The experience they provided us with was very special. We received a tour of their beautiful farm the first full day we were there--it was so fun getting to know the history of the establishment--and every day after that they gave us all the information we needed to go into town, go on hikes, or enjoy the property. If you are thinking about staying here, just do it! This place is paradise!

My husband, David, and I are from Oregon, USA. We decided to leave the cold beaches of the Pacific Northwest, and the hustle and bustle of our busy lives to reinvent ourselves in the beautiful mountains of Costa Rica. We pinch ourselves every morning, feeling incredibly fortunate…
