With spring-like temperatures in a paradise setting, we believe you'll take away memories you won't soon forget. Hush Valley Lodge is nestled in a quiet valley next to the Perez river in the Dota mountains. Explore and discover the diverse wildlife on the property. There are over 200 different species of birds in the area, including the Resplendent Quetzal. Thirty-five acres provide many hiking trails for the ultimate forest bathing experience. Our exclusive B&B accommodation is fully equipped with all the creature comforts. Breakfast is included and dinner meals are available upon request ($15 US per person).

Hot water on demand • Sky satellite TV • Cell phone reception • Wireless internet connection available in the guesthouse

Things to do:

• Pesca Rio Blanco, an authentic Tico restaurant (5-minute walk)
• Neighbouring fruit orchard tour with the most exquisite views (10-minute walk)
• Horseback riding with a local guide
• Coopedota coffee plantation and processing plant tour (15-minute drive)

Guest access

FREE property tour (approx 1.5 to 2 hrs) where guests will have the opportunity to see the process of raising trout from fingerlings to adult stage in our natural ponds. Everything is done in conjunction with nature. Some lucky guests have seen the elusive Quetzal during the tour.

Interaction with guests

We like to strike the right balance with our guests. We are here for you. Before you arrive, we prefer communicating via email to make sure all your questions are answered. We're also happy to arrange local tours. Having said that, once you're here, we respect your need for privacy and this is why all meals are brought to you to eat in the privacy of the guesthouse. Meal times are flexible based on your preferred schedule. This is your holiday, and we do everything we can to provide you with the best experience. (Please note, due to kitchen limitations, I can only prepare one type of meal at a time, just like home. But the choice is yours: you can catch your own trout, have shepherd's pie, chicken, pasta, pizza, soups and salads). All meals come with homemade dessert, too.

Other things to note

The Los Santos region, where we live, is considered Costa Rica's prime coffee producer. The Coopededota is the world's first carbon neutral coffee processing plant. They provide a tour for $22 U.S. per person and is well worth it, expecially during peak coffee-picking season (January to April).

This region is also known for its bird watching. There are hundreds of species to observe in their natural habitat.

Staying in this property is the best thing you can do. Moverte peaceful, in contact with the nature and with the best atention you can ask for. Anne is a wonderful cooker, and she and Kevin are the best hosts you can get. My wife and I had the vacation we needed, in the mountains with all the nature. Totally recommended

Out stay in Hush Valley was very short (just one night) but enough to experience the beauty of it! It is one of those places were you leave fully renewed and nurtured. I can wait to come back and stay for longer! The nature sorroundings and the warm welcome and generous attentions of Anne and Kevin really conspired to our wellbeing. I can say, as a Costa Rican, that we appreciate greatly how our hosts take care for that wonderful piece of land that is Hush Valley. My partner and I are pleased to take the memories of this trip with us. We wish our hosts the best!

I would give Hush Valley 6 stars if I could! It was absolutely amazing and one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Kevin and Anne were EXCELLENT hosts, and were very attentive and helpful when we needed things. Their property is just unbelievably beautiful. The road driving down there is steep, so I highly recommend 4WD vehicles, although you might be able to do it in a 2WD car with some clearance and good tires The country was so beautiful. If you want to get out in the country, don't miss this spot!!! We used the authentic wood burning stove to cook several meals, and that was one of my favorite parts.

This was such a great experience staying in their charming casita. Anne and Kevin provided everything needed for a wonderful stay. Wood for the woodstove made it cozy warm at night. What all was provided: a loaf of fresh-baked bread, butter, home-made jam, fresh eggs, ground coffee, milk, tea, soap, wifi, games, books, etc, etc. We just can't say enough about how Anne and Kevin made our stay sublime. Kevin even spotted and filled up a flat tire for us on the morning we left, and Anne led us to a place to get the tire repaired in Sta Maria. We asked Anne to cook for us both nights (once at 10 pm on the night of our arrival) we were there and it was absolutely delicious. Kevin gave us an extensive tour of their trout farm. Great hiking. We would highly recommend Hush Valley Lodge.

Before we arrived at Anne and Kevin's place, we knew we had made a good choice, because Anne was so thoughtful, helpful and flexible with information and directions. Once we arrived we were really overwhelmed by the lovely cabin, and the freshly baked loaf waiting for us, as well as homemade blackberry jam, plentiful eggs from the farm and local butter. Anne cooked us dinner on our first night and my husband really enjoyed the trout and I thought the squash soup and salad were delicious. We didn't have room for the lemon cake so we saved it to have with a coffee the next morning. Also delicious! The second day we prepared our own evening meal and the kitchen was thoughtfully equipped to make it easy for guests to self-cater. The tour of the farm by Kevin was so interesting- he was really enthusiastic and we learned a lot. The cabin was cosy, especially when we lit the cusiniere woodburner on our second night - plenty of wood was supplied for us. We loved our constant companion Bobbie, their friendly dog, who guided us along one of the shorter trails around the property, waiting patiently whenever we stopped to look at birds. I would advise you to take a few warmer bits of clothes, socks etc, as it is high up in the mountains but we were still surprised at how chilly it got at times, (although we understand that the weather was a bit unusual especially for January) Overall we loved it there and highly recommend a visit.

This is truly amazing place in Costa Rica. We realized it after traveling through other parts of the country. If you want to unite with and explore a nature this is the place to be. This place located at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) ft above sea level in a small canyon next to a rapid mountain river. A 20-25 minute drive takes you to Copedota - coffee capital of CR. Anne can help you with arranging a coffee tour. And Kevin can give you a tour of trout farm - very unique experience. Ask Anne to make lunch and/or dinner for you. The food is all local, natural and super delicious. Thank you a lot Anne and Kevin!

My husband, Kevin, and I are from Burlington, Ontario, Canada. We decided to leave the cold winters of the Great White North and the hustle and bustle of our busy lives to reinvent ourselves in the beautiful mountains of Costa Rica. We pinch ourselves every morning, feeling incredibly fortunate to be living in this paradise setting. And we look forward to sharing it with you!
