About this listing
Just off the N56, down a leafy lane, this traditional, single-storey, detached holiday cottage lies in an idyllic setting. Retaining its ‘olde worlde’ character, it lies in an ideal location for walkers, as the cottage is on the renowned Bluestack Way and for the keen fisherman, the property is about 450 yards from the Owenea river. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch the handweavers of Ardara producing the tweed for which Donegal is famous. This is also a popular area for its beautiful beaches. Visit the golden beaches and caves of Maghera and the fabulous white beaches of Narin And Portnoo. Shop, pub and restaurant 2.5 miles.

The cottage is a 100 year old building which is very much appreciated but can also be a bit humid in the bedrooms. It's a nice place to enjoy some quality time and relax from the city stress! Secluded, rustic but authentic. The caretakers are lovely, very welcoming and helpful. We even found some fresh bread, butter and milk waiting for us :-) Thanks again Barry for the updates!
The cottage is lovely and secluded. There's a path at the back which leads to the river, woods etc; which makes for a nice walk (make sure you use the rubber boots Barry left in the cottage). It's also a good place to hang around when the Donegal rain comes along... Nice central spot to visit Ardara, Maghera caves, Donegal, St John's point etc. I would definitely recommend.
Excellent stay in fantastic rural retreat. The house is hidden down a small side ride (directions were excellent tho so we easy found it!) and was perfect to relax away from the stress of life. The house is really well equipped - we didn't need to bring anything. There was even a litre of milk and some scones left for us. Loved the rocking chair as well :) Overall can't recommend enough.
Lovely traditional Irish cottage only 10 minute drive from Ardara. Very quiet and private and all the amenities you need. Had a very comfortable and relaxed stay. Thank you, Barry!
The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed to have a relaxing holiday. Barry was very helpful and we had a great time in Donegal.
The cottage is a 100 year old stone building situated in a nice part of Donegal with convenient access to some pleasant bog and riverside walks.
TO QUALIFY THESE COMMENTS, the cottage had not been occupied for 4 weeks previous to our stay and Barry did communicate and attempt to deal with the difficulties we encountered.
When we arrived it was apparent that there were some maintenance issues, there was an intense smell of smoke from the living room, as the main source of heat there is a solid fuel stove, and due to the smell in one of the bedrooms we concluded it had a damp problem. There were electric heaters, however some of them were out order. The electric shower only put out lukewarm water at the maximum setting.
The cleanliness of the cottage left a little to be desired, the bin was soiled, the floors hadn't been washed and the fridge had not been cleaned with residue from the previous occupants food visible.
It must be said that Barry's communication was good and he did attempt to remedy the situation, however we still cut our trip short and only stayed for two of the three days we had booked. Barry is a considerate host providing scones, milk and other basics. There was also a good selection of maps and reading material to help us enjoy the stay.
