About this listing
A very special house, perched high above a canyon with 50-mile views. Secluded on the national forest border, yet convenient to lakeside amenities, shopping, dining, skiing, hiking. Relax on the deck or lounge by the fireplace. Our tranquil vacation home is located in Lake Arrowhead, a resort area in the San Bernardino mountains outside Los Angeles. A perfect place to get away from the city and recharge in a natural setting!
Unwind in the peaceful beauty of the San Bernardino mountains, just 90 minutes from Los Angeles. Our light and bright Cape Cod home includes a vaulted great room with plenty of seating around the river-rock fireplace, a wrap-around deck, a master bedroom with fireplace and jetted tub ensuite, and spectacular views from every room. (Attention, writers: there is a dedicated office area where you can focus on your next chapter.)
Outside is a large deck with a bird's eye view of a canyon creek. Beyond the canyon, you can see the high desert and distant mountains, with far-off city lights at night. Bedrooms and common areas offer panoramic National Forest views and technicolor sunsets.
The kitchen is fully equipped, and if you wish to dine out, Lake Arrowhead's restaurants are just a few minutes away. High speed wifi and a range of satellite TV channels are included. This is a pet-free property, in case you suffer from allergies. Lake Arrowhead's shops and lakeside amenities are nearby, and hiking trails are steps away.
You will have access to all the living areas of the house, indoors and outdoors. All kitchen and laundry appliances are available to you. Bedrooms and bathrooms have complete sets of bed and bath linens. If you're staying for an extended period, extra linens can be delivered at your request.
Interaction with guests
We do not live on-site, but if you have any questions about the house or the area, or need help, we are just a phone call away. If we happen to be traveling, we have an additional Airbnb certified host in the neighborhood who can give you assistance at any time.
This secluded area of Lake Arrowhead looks out across the high desert to the Tehachapi Mountains and the southern foothills of the Sierras. Shopping, restaurants, and lakeside parks are close, but not so close that they intrude on your peace and quiet. For hikers and rock climbers, the Pacific Crest Trail, Pilot Rock, and Forest Service trails are nearby. For bird-watchers, the canyon below the house is home to a variety of birds, including mountain quail, acorn woodpeckers, black-headed grosbeaks, and merlin falcons. For stargazers, the local observatory offers evening astronomy presentations with views from their telescope.
There is a 3-car parking area, with additional street-side parking at the vacant lot next door. Public transportation is inadequate in the San Bernardino Mountains, and we recommend that visitors travel by automobile to enjoy everything Lake Arrowhead has to offer.
Other things to note
Interim housekeeping can be available during your stay, with advance notice and an additional fee.
We provide passes which give you access to Lake Arrowhead's exclusive amenities including the marina beach park, the lakeside walking trail, and the golf club park.
Our house borders National Forest land, the home of many mountain natives: bears, coyotes, deer, bobcats, raccoons, etc. Please do not leave trash overnight in the outdoor garbage cans, or leave food outdoors (the blue jays are always looking for snacks).
Thank you for reading through this lengthy but important description. And now for the Easter Egg: Include the words "Me love cookie" in your reservation email, and we'll let you know where we stash the Oreo cookies. Because who doesn't love Oreos?
We're big fans of Air BnB, and we love to welcome people to our beautiful home. And that's what it is: our home. We hope you will respect and cherish it the way we do, and treat it with care. A friendly reminder: If you're booking a group, choose your fellow guests wisely. It's your name on the reservation, on the security deposit, and on the review we write after your stay.
Not a lot of rules, but we're pretty serious about them:
- Our house is a strictly 100% non-smoking, non-vaping property. In addition, because of our fire-prone location, we cannot permit outdoor smoking of any kind.
- Do not engage in illegal activities anywhere on the property. No hotboxing even with the card (see strict non-smoking rule above.)
- No parties and no more than 6 overnight guests.
Breaking the above rules is grounds for cancellation of your reservation.
Some additional requests:
- No open-flame candles, please. (It's that fire-prone thing.)
- If you choose to use the fireplace, please follow the instructions beside the fireplace, and in the house "user's manual."
- If you damage or break anything, please let me know and arrange for repair or replacement.
- Please park in the 3-car parking area in front of the house, or street-side by the vacant lot next door if you need extra parking. Avoid blocking the neighboring driveway.
- Please put used dishes in the dishwasher and start it before you leave.
- Please put used towels in the bathtub. No need to strip the beds.
- Please lock the door when you go, and return the key to the lockbox. (And take happy memories with you.)
Cancel up to 5 days before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.
We're so happy to welcome guests to our beautiful mountain vacation home again! Several years ago we offered part of the house as a writer's retreat where creative minds could focus on their work in peace. Now we're offering the complete house to guests who need a getaway from the rigors of city life, within a short distance from Los Angeles.
As a TV commercial producer (me) and a rock-drummer musician (my husband), we've traveled all over the world, but for complete relaxation and escape, our mountainside house with a 50-mile view is unbeatable. (Although my husband would say our stay in Waikoloa on Hawaii's Big Island is a close second!)
When we travel, we love a blend of the familiar and the unexpected, luxurious and rustic. We like to explore and learn about new places on our own, but we also do our homework before taking off on an adventure. We both enjoy staying in back-East lake cabins and beach houses, and we've tried to bring a little of that laid-back eclectic style to the southern California mountains.
We hope the secluded, peaceful atmosphere of this house brings balance to your life, as it does for us.
