Judy's house was very accommodating. Yes it may be in a sketchy neighborhood, but she does make you feel safe. It is loud with the train there, but if you need ear plugs she provides them for you. She's also a great character to talk to when in passing. I would stay there if I needed to again.
I really enjoyed my stay at Judy's home. As others have described, the neighborhood wasn't great, but I didn't think it was that bad and I never felt unsafe. Judy is a warm and friendly host and the room is nice. The only downside for me, was the train that ran behind the house. Most nights it stopped at 11pm, but one night it ran until 2am. Despite the train noise I would still recommend Judy's place.
Very nice place, you step inside and forget where you are. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to anyone. Lots of cheap food nearby too and Judy was wonderful!
My review is a tad late, but better late than never!
My stay at Judy's was comfortable, and she was very accommodating. It was fun talking to her about movies (and a lot of other things, but mostly movies), and her expert opinions on bay area neighborhoods helped in my search for a long-term stay. The two buses that stop a block away connect to BART stations and transbay buses, so moving around wasn't a hassle at all.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay with her, and absolutely recommend her place.
I was one of Judy's first Airbnb guests... I think maybe the third? Anyways, I enjoyed my time there. While the neighborhood is a little ghetto and off-putting at first, trust me when I say you will be safe in this place! I had no trouble getting around town and getting to BART. There is a bus just a few steps from the door that will take you directly to El Cerrito del Norte BART. Judy (email hidden) that truly cares about the people that she accepts. After hearing that I was new to the area, Judy gave me tons of useful advice about the area along with places and things to do and see! I would highly recommend staying here, as long as you look past the neighborhood.
I enjoyed staying with Judy in Richmond; she is a very good company and we had good conversations. I was a bit afraid of the area prior to getting there, but it is actually okay, if you don't walk around outside at night. Point Richmond is very close by and is (email hidden)e room has nice closet space for those living out of suit cases like me. There is a train track so if noise prevents you from sleeping, look else where. I think it is ideal for someone looking to stay in the bay area (email hidden) gig as it is close to BART to the city, or there to hang out in Berkeley with your buddies for a long weekend! I would definitely stay at Judy's again. Thanks!
Actually I was Judy's ~1st~ airbnb guest, though tardy to leave a review. Loved the neighborhood and found it a very cute street. Being in Richmond, it's not going to have the same demographic as actual Berkeley, but her price point can't be beat making an extended stay financially feasible. Loved her enchanting gardens with charming curb appeal from the front and an enclosed backyard for my little puppy to run around, hang laundry to dry, and have a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. The room was really tranquil with indirect light which was greatly appreciated as I get migraines. The bed was super comfortable and the desk was a functional workspace. Thank you Judy for opening up su casa to me and hope to stay with you in the future when in your area again XO :)
Unfortunately I was not able to complete my stay with Judy because when I arrived I didn't find the neighborhood safe enough for my liking. Judy seems like an amazing and kind woman who took my cancelation well and I would have liked to have stayed with her if the location was a better fit for me.
