Great Location! Upper Castro Loft

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Clayton Street, San Francisco, CA 94114, United States

THE PLACE
A fantastic modern property midway between the Castro and Cole Valley. This is a one bedroom loft apartment with an open floor plan.

The loft has sleeping capacity for 5 in total:
- a queen sized bed sleeps 2
- the sofa converts to a queen bed for another 2
- and a twin mattress under the stairs sleeps 1

IMPORTANT: There are no walls separating the sleeping areas.

There is a modern kitchen, with an full size stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator, dish-washer, and in-unit full size washer-dryer. The bathroom features a massive multi-person shower. Top it off with a big screen TV, WiFi, and a backyard. We are straight and gay friendly, pets are negotiable.

LOCATION AND TRANSPORTATION
Location and access to public transport are very important; there are two bus lines right on the corner, going downhill the 33 takes you to the vibrant Castro, the Mission district, Bart, and Portrero hill. Going the other way it takes you to the Haight (old hippy hangout), Golden Gate park and the Richmond district. The 37 bus downhill takes you to the Muni underground at Castro and Mission, the Castro, the Safeway on Church then back to the Haight. Look in my Guidebook for route maps.

Easy access from the airport; the Bart train plus one bus ride takes you right to the front door.

PARKING
Parking is easy to find and free in our neighborhood. In most parts of the city, you must have a sticker to park more than a few hours. Here you don't need a sticker and you can park your car and leave it all week, the only restriction is it must be moved for street cleaning two hours per week. Signs are clearly posted telling you the times for street cleaning.

PETS
I know how hard it can be to travel with pets, so I try to accommodate. However, pets must be approved in advance, so ask before you book. Also there is a $10 per night fee for each pet, so if your pet is approved, just add your pet as a guest.

CALENDAR AND AVAILABILITY
My calendar is ALWAYS up to date, so if you aren't sure of your dates or just want to see when it's available, you can look at the calendar tab above the photo at the top of the listing.

  • We loved staying at John's loft. The apartment was very cool and plenty spacious for 5 20-something girls to stay. We loved how big the bathroom was so we could all get ready at the same time. The apartment was clean and had great amenities (washer/dryer, dishwasher, Roku, shower with multiple jets...). The apartment is very accessible to other parts of the city via walking or public transportation. We usually opted to take a 12 minute walk downhill to the main Castro area where you can pick up a street car to Union Square/the Ferry Building/Fisherman's Wharf, as well as many buses and the subway. You can also take a bus that way--there are two buses that pick up just right outside. We also walked just 15 minutes to the Haight. John was extremely nice and accomodating. And, he lives right upstairs so if you had any problems I'm sure he'd be able to help you out right away. I highly recommend staying at John's loft!

  • We loved this place, its modern, and comfortable. getting around was so easy, the bus stop is just outside the door. It's a lovely neighborhood, can't wait to come back. John is a nice host, he gets back to you very promptly, so you can book the place and stay. Another reviewer mentioned the shower...well its a marvelous luxury, to our already wonderful stay.

  • John's loft was perfect for a girls' weekend. We were a party of 4. The kitchen is great and well-stocked and there's lots of comfortable sleeping and space. The bathroom was also great. His place was in a very convenient location to other parts of the city. John was very helpful leading up to the trip and always available with information when we needed it!

  • John's place is great! Located within walking distance to all that the Castro district has to offer. Very clean and modern! VERY quick response and booked same day!

  • This was a great place to stay! John greeted us upon our arrival and was very friendly. Plenty of room with a group of five. Transportation was right down the street which was amazing because we did a lot of sight seeing. Overall this was a great stay and would love to come back. I don't speak just for myself but for the group of five that was there!

  • Johns place was very comfortable and super cute. Easy check in and beautiful neighborhood. The only thing we ran into that wasn't ideal for us was noise upstairs (where john lives) at 7 am. Besides that everything was great!

  • John was a very accommodating host who was willing to work with our needs. His place was perfectly located in the city and well-equipped with all the necessities, making our stay comfortable. I would definitely recommend his amazing loft for anyone staying in San Francisco!

  • John's place is lovely, modern and clean. We were looking for something with a serviceable kitchen for some robust cooking, and John's place more than satisfied. The lighting configuration options were also great, with lots of possibilities to choose from to accommodate various moods. The shower is a fantastic feature and the bed was really comfortable.

John was really responsive, very easy to work with and very friendly, and let us keep to ourselves. I had the impression that he was available if we needed anything, but he left us alone.

What kept this from being an out-and-out 5-star review was a bit of neighborly noise (next-door television in the middle of the night, some walking sounds from the ceiling in the morning) and that the shower's hot water ran out more quickly than we might have liked. Still, a 4-star experience, and I'd stay again without much consideration. For the price, the value is excellent.

  • John was an excellent host. Very detailed with the information, prompt with emails, friendly in person and even responded to special requests. The house is in a great, peaceful location, a bit of a hike from downtown, but the buses pickup you up basically from the front door. The neighborhood is great and there are other nice neighborhoods within a walking distance. Heartily recommended!

  • John's place was a great place to stay for a week long trip to San Fran. We stayed with our two kids (1 & 3 years old) and the house worked really well to accommodate them. Thanks so much for having us John!
