We have a two-bedroom, two-bath home on the Redwood City/Menlo Park border, and we're renting the guest bedroom with its own private bathroom. Our home has convenient access to Highway 101, and it's just 10 minutes to Palo Alto. San Francisco, San Jose, and the coast are about 30 minutes away. During high traffic, however, those travel times can easily double or more.
The house has a beautiful back yard with koi pond, redwood trees, a dozen fruit trees, relaxing sitting areas, and a hot tub. The bedroom has a wood floor, queen bed, dresser, television, desk, and plenty of closet space. The house is equipped with Wi-Fi, and the washer and dryer are at your disposal.
Our kitchen was remodeled in January, 2015. Guests are still allowed use of the refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and toaster. Since the kitchen is brand new (and I'm a little anxious about keeping it looking brand new!), we're asking guests to refrain from cooking on the stove or in the oven.
Across the street, our shopping center has made great improvements over the past couple years. There are restaurants ranging from Chinese and Mexican to sandwiches and a brewery, along with a mom and pop bakery/ice cream shop. Of course, there is the ubiquitous Starbucks. A large yoga studio was recently added, and guests have raved about it. In addition to other services, the center also has a handy grocery store, now undergoing terrific upgrades, to suit your needs.
For those who have a car, there is plenty of driveway or street parking with no time limitations. For those relying on mass transit, the house sits midway between the Redwood City and Menlo Park Caltrain stations. Caltrain is a comfortable and convenient way to travel most Peninsula towns from San Jose to San Francisco. The train drops San Francisco passengers off right on the waterfront just outside of downtown. Samtrans, the county bus system with service to Caltrain stations and to San Francisco, stops just a block from our house.
In January, 2014, we adopted a two year old cat from the shelter. He's adjusted very well to his new digs. He's very friendly, but if you have issues with kitties, you might want to take Pete, the cat, into account.
-private bedroom and bath
-back yard and its many sitting areas
-front living room (which we very rarely use) and dining room
-washer and dryer
-limited kitchen use (microwave, refrigerator, toaster, coffee pot-no stove or oven use, please)
The shopping center across the street is getting improvements constantly.
This is still a mostly working-class neighborhood; it's safe, and even though it's gentrifying some, it has a nice mix of people.
If you want to walk in a more upscale neighborhood, the towns of Menlo Park and Atherton are just a half mile away.
It's convenient to two good downtowns, Redwood City and Palo Alto.
The freeway is two minutes away, but you can't hear it.
Samtrans, the county bus system, stops a block away from our house. The bus serves the Caltrain commuter rail system, which is about three miles away.
Uber is a super convenient (but more pricey) way to get around, and they're usually available within a couple minutes of a request.
Guests are welcome to park in the driveway or the street if they prefer.
Pretty simple-follow the Golden Rule, and we'll do the same. No smoking inside the house, please.
David and Kevin were awesome, they showed me around the house and helped me get set up in the guest room. They even lent me their bike so I could use it around the city. David, Kevin you rule! You've made my first experience with AirBnB an outstanding one. And Pete D. Cat is the most lovable and friendliest cat ever, I loved playing with him. The backyard is incredible and made the trip unforgettable. The house is also beautiful and welcoming. I would give more than 5 stars if I could.
David, Kevin and Pete 'Da Cat were very welcoming. The room was quiet with lots of closet space. Having WiFi was great! Easy access to 101 (and Starbucks just across the street).
Great lemon tree, great place, great people. Would love to return if I'm in the area again.
I was happy to be able to stay again with David, Kevin and Pete the Cat. Their home is convenient to a small shopping center that includes a market, Starbucks, restaurants, and a yoga studio (you can book classes online at Vibe Yoga). Thank you for welcoming me again to your lovely and comfortable home!
The hosts were very welcoming and helpful with giving suggestions about the area. Everything was clean and prepared for guests as expected, and the yard is even more picturesque in person than in their profile. The only drawback was the busy street the house is on.
David's place was perfect, very neat and well appointed, amazing pillows! Extremely convenient location for me, easy access to 101 and close to the airport but still a nice neighborhood feel. Wish I had a chance to enjoy the well landscaped yard, an unusual period of rain while I was there made it difficult. Beyond all that, and more important, these guys were really nice and easy going. Pete D Cat was also a nice bonus, great company at any time of the day. If you're anything close to a reasonable person you will enjoy staying here!
My husband and I are both elementary school teachers, which gives us the opportunity to travel fairly extensively.
During our (email hidden), the thought often wanders to owning one of our own. That might be a good retirement dream, but for now, we can open our home to others.
We've owned our place for twelve years. The home looks like a typical suburban house from the front, but a walk through the back reveals what convinced us to buy it; it's a bit of an urban oasis from a hectic life.
Our city's motto is, "Climate Best by Government Test". Although it might not be the most romantic sounding motto, it gives an idea of why we decided to stay in the area after moving from the East Coast. Mild, sunny days greet us for most of the year.
