Quiet village location approx 5 miles [8 Km] south of the stunning World Heritage Site of Durham City
We have a 4 Bedroom Detached House on two storeys in the conservation village of Hett
On offer at a glance all year round:-
Twin Room upstairs looking out over the village green and with a small Television, DVD player and Free WiFi. We provide all the bed linen, quilts, and pillows you will need
Bathroom adjacent on same level with shower, mostly yours as we have an en-suite. We provide towels
We have a living room / study with a settee and TV also upstairs facing south over open country. We use this room if we are working at home during the day, but this is rarely the case in the evening and so then you are welcome to use this room as well, to stretch out, sit comfortably and enjoy the TV and selection of DVDs
At certain times of the year, for example during University Graduations and at the start and end of terms, we may be able to offer a second bedroom to the same family or group of friends and we may be able to suggest a special price for the whole family or friends group
There is cupboard and fridge space downstairs and you are welcome to cook and eat in our kitchen
We do not provide meals, but nor do we lock away the tea, coffee, milk and sugar! There will also be a selection of cereals so you can help yourself to breakfast
If the weather is nice you might also like to share our south facing back garden with patio, tables and chairs
There is no immediate public transport in Hett so if you have your own vehicle this is a bonus because we are just 15 minutes from the A1 M and:-
• Parking at our house is free and guaranteed
• The vibrant cities of Durham and Newcastle are only a comfortable 20 minutes and 40 minutes drive away, respectively
• Durham City has a park and ride [Howlands] on a direct car route between us and the city. Current fees and facilities are on the Durham County Council website. Other parking in the city is around £1.80 per 2 hours
Between Durham and Newcastle there are more restaurants, coffee shops, bars , theatres, cinemas, architecture and riverside than you could possibly need
• Newcastle Airport is comfortably within the hour by car from us
• Within an hour from our house you can drive into Northumberland, Weardale , Teesdale or North Yorkshire with all the stunning beauty of the North East Coast and Country to enjoy
If you don`t have a car then a 15 minute walk along an unlit country road,or less time if you use the defined, partly surfaced but unlit footpath over the fields, takes you to and from the bus stop where buses run regularly into Durham City
You take the Arriva North East Number 7 service which runs between Durham City and Darlington. The stop for Hett Village is at The Coach & Horses pub at Butchers Race.
Current timetables and fares are on the Arriva North East website
Please note that this bus service runs through Durham City to Durham bus station, not the railway station
We see our house being ideal for:-
• Short business stays
• Attending interviews
• Weekend or mid week breaks
• Visiting offspring at our University

Fabulous accommodation. Thanks to Mike and Kate for making me feel so 'at home'.
Great hosts and lovely accommodation. I received a warm welcome on a cold and snowy evening. Fabulous!
The neighbourhood is quiet. I would Highly Recommend.
Friendly, helpful hosts. House very clean. It was nice to have a separate sitting room and bathroom. Lovely quiet location. Delicious home made bread!
We had a lovely stay with Kate and Mike. They welcomed us from the beginning and were friendly, warm and helpful. The room was good, and we had a great time.
This was the second time I've stayed with Kate and Mike, and as expected they were the perfect hosts again. The room is very comfortable, and being able to help myself to tea and breakfast is greatly appreciated.
My husband & I had a most lovely n relaxing stay with Kate n Mike. We slept so well. The room was super clean n comfortable. The toilet was beautiful, spacious n luxurious. Much better than my own house's. The central heating was very gentle and nice. This is our 1st time in UK so we enjoyed it very much.
The back garden was full of vegetables n herbs planted by Mike. The grapevine had bunches of grapes, which is fascinating for us from urban Singapore.
It's a great experience for us to stay in an English conservation village with a geese pond, wild rabbits, a mare n her foal in the next field n wild berries everywhere.
Kate is friendly, cheery n accommodating. We'll definitely consider this restful place again if we need to visit our daughter at Durham Uni.
I am a teacher. Mike is a lawyer. He does the admin for me!
