Dating from the 16th Century, Barnacle Cottage offers visitors a real taste of traditional Devon living with full modern amenities.
There are two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs and the spacious ground floor is open plan with dining, living and kitchen area (with dishwasher).
Sitting on the edge of a coastal village it is surrounded by peaceful beauty, and is perfectly placed to explore all the best of South Devon, There is off road parking beside the cottage and whilst enjoying the beautiful peaceful grounds, bordered by woodland, it is impossible not to convene with nature and the birds in the early morning sunrise! Not another house as far as the eye can see!
However, don't panic, there is WIFI, plasma screen TV, iPod dock and mobile signals to keep you grounded in this century!
The master bedroom has a super comfy king size bed and TV while the smaller bedroom has two singles with another stored underneath. The bathroom has a bath with an electric shower overhead.
The village of Galmpton, a mile from the Blue Flag Broadsands beach, centres around the River Dart Marina, a friendly pub/restaurant, a general store and butcher shop, sourced from the local area.
Supermarkets are a short drive as are many other shopping and browsing opportunities, including the fishing port of Brixham (about 3 miles), the famously quirky town of Totnes (6 miles) with fabulous eateries, tea shops and interesting and independent shops and markets. Dartmouth (via car ferry) is the beacon of the area with it's naval history and award winning seafood restaurants and markets.
The famous Agatha Christie Greenway House and Gardens lies within 2 miles of the cottage and is one of the National Trust's most popular sites. The scenery there on the banks of the River Dart is truly spiritual and inspired many of her mysteries.
Speaking of spiritual, you can spend a day at The Sharpham Vineyard and taste their own wine and cheese in a magical spot, overlooking the ever present River Dart.
And while we are it let's not forget Dartmoor for stunning scenery. All these as well as boat trips, walking and exploring the many coastal paths are just some of the popular activities in this area of outstanding natural beauty that is South Devon. So I ask you? Is one week really enough...?
You will find me right next door in the attached cottage armed with a promise not to bother you, but a bigger promise to be here to welcome you, help settle you in and assist in any way I can to make your stay here memorable.
Down to business: The rates for the cottage are very seasonal and often vary by the week so it has been quite a challenge to key in a daily rate. To get a day rate I have simply divided the weekly rate by 7. However, when you wish to stay less than 7 nights, the rate will be slightly higher than the day rate multiplied by your number of nights to incorporate the upfront costs which remain the same whether it is for 3 or 7 nights. So please be aware if you are wishing to book a short break that I will need to quote for that separately. During the high season, June - September, short breaks only available depending on availability on a last minute basis.
The reservation was canceled 18 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
What can I say, Barnacle Cottage is stunning, the view out of every window and the front door are breath taking. And lying on the couches watching tv was bliss. I felt so comfortable in the house it was like being in a home away from home. Phyllis is the perfect host...even greeting us with Devonshire Tea....everything was perfection!!
The cottage was everything we expected and more: beautiful setting, cute and cozy, Welcome Cream Tea waiting fro us, friendly and helpful host, lots to do and see and the most wonderful scent of flowers everywhere.
Thank you Phyllis, we enjoyed meeting you and staying at your cottage.

A lovely cottage in a great location. Phyllis was really helpful and friendly too and we felt very welcome. Great garden for the dog too.
We stayed in Phyllis' adorable little cottage for a week in April. Despite the biting cold and rain we had a lovely time. The cottage is full of charm and in beautiful surroundings. The garden out the back is beautiful and brilliant to hang out in when the weather is good. Inside the cottage is really cosy and warm and equipped with everything you might need and more. The beds are super comfy and ideal for lengthy lie-ins.
Phyllis is a very good and accommodating host. Quick and clear communication and very helpful with any requests we had. There was also a lot of really useful info about activities, both for sunny and rainy days. All in all a very nice stay was had by all.
