The space
Our house used to be an old school house in a small country town called Carpendeit. It was built around 1915 and was moved to it's current position in Port Campbell around 1997.
Within a short drive of about 10 minutes from the 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and Gibson Steps, The Old School House is a perfect hub for exploring everything the Great Ocean Road has to offer.
It is a charming home full of character.

There are two bedrooms upstairs: a main with a queen size bed and a smaller bedroom with two single beds.
For additional guests after 4 people, there is the option of a pull-out sofabed in the living room downstairs (converts to a queen size bed) or a spare mattress in the study upstairs.
For any guests traveling with a baby or small child, there is a travel cot available to use at no extra charge.

Please note that bed linen and towels are provided.
All of the bed sheets, including the doona covers, towels, face washers and tea towels, are freshly washed for our guests when we get the house ready.
Please ensure to let us know the correct number of guests so that we can provide enough towels and prepare the correct number of beds.

There are two balconies upstairs. A large deck wraps around 3 sides of the house downstairs.
There is a BBQ on the deck for you to use if you wish.
We have an outdoor fire pit in the backyard and a wood-fire oven in the living room.

We are keen to keep the character of the house. The kitchen cabinets are the old school house drawers , which gives it a rustic look, whilst providing all of the modern amenities you need to make your stay comfortable: full size fridge with freezer, freestanding electric oven and stove with range hood, electric water kettle and toaster. (Please note that pots, pans, plates, bowls, cutlery etc are all provided.)
There are two toilets in the house. The separate toilet next to the bathroom will remind you of an Australian outhouse with the corrugated metal walls.
The spacious bathroom has a second toilet, a bath tub (dimensions are: overall length 1.5m, overall width 0.7m) and a separate shower.
There is an air-conditioner in the living room for heating in winter and cooling in summer as well as a wood-fire heater for cosy winter nights.
There is a panel heater in the main bedroom and a radiator heater in the second bedroom.
If using these heaters, please ensure these are switched off when leaving the house.

There is a large dining table that seats 8 people if you wish to invite some friends over for dinner.

Please note: Bedrooms are upstairs, toilets are downstairs. Entry to the house is via a set of stairs. Plenty of parking available along the driveway in front of the house.

Guest access
You will have exclusive use of the whole house and surrounding gardens.

Based on the size of bedrooms, the house is best suited to a family or group of friends of up to 6 people.
If you would like to book our house for more than 6 people, please send us a message.

Other things to note
The bedrooms are located upstairs with a further two steps leading into the second bedroom.
The toilet and bathroom as well as kitchen and dining areas are located downstairs.
Please supervise children on the stairs, when on the balconies and when playing upstairs.

Neighborhood highlights

The Old School House is a leisurely 900 meters to Port Campbell beach and town centre.
The beach is situated in a bay and is therefore suitable for swimming most time of the year. There is also the river at the end of the beach which is great if you are traveling with small children.

Port Campbell town has a tourist information centre, police and a CFA fire station, a local grocery store, a petrol station and a number of nice cafes. The local pub has ocean views and is located right opposite the beach.

The 12 Apostles are only a 10 minute drive from the house, same with Loch Ard Gorge, the Gibson Steps, London Bridge and the Bay of Martyrs.
Visit the neighbouring towns of Princetown (Princetown river is great for fishing and kayaking, the boardwalk is beautiful and there is also a nice walk along the river/lake to the wild beach, which you might have all to yourself) and Peterborough (big river/lake, safe swimming beach).
Once you have done your exploring of the scenic coastal area, take an inland drive to Timboon and enjoy a delicious lunch with local produce at The Distillery. Visit the local cheese farmers, the strawberry farm, Gorge Chocolates and the local vineyard (subject to opening hours).
About a 45 minute drive east from our house, will take you to the edge of the Otway National Park. There are lots of great walks to do, a number of them suitable also for small children.
Make sure to visit the Cape Otway light house. You might be able to spot a few koalas on the drive there. Once night sets, you can visit the fireflies at Melba Gully. If you are not scared of heights, the Otway Treetop walk is absolutely stunning.

From the first time we set foot into The Old School House, we fell in love with it. It's a charming house full of history and character surrounded by our native garden that attracts a lot of native birds. We hope that our guests love the house just as much as we do. It is a lovely, relaxing and unique hub to explore the amazing Great Ocean Road. Irena & Simon
