This unique accommodation rests beside the Mountain View Bungalow. A small area between the wagon and bungalow features a hammock and patio with table, chairs and small BBQ. The wagon is off-the-grid with solar lanterns. There is an bucket-compost outhouse nearby. Cooking, WIFI, showers in main guest house.

The space

The bed is a queen-sized memory foam mattress, positioned above a large storage space for luggage. The Wagon is lit by two solar lanterns and candles for mood. The toilet is located beneath the bench, and "flushed" with cedar sawdust.
In the compact space, the table slides out from beneath the bed. The perfect venue for early morning coffee or tea, a light lunch or an evening game of cards or cribbage. Games are found in the library of the main guest house.
After a hike in the nearby mountains, a stroll up Cow Creek, Salmon or Steelhead fishing, or a raft or kayak trip down the Salmon River, you might want to return to the wagon to freshen up. A pitcher of water and guest soaps are provided. There are also large fluffy bath sheets provided, for trips to the Mavens’ Haven swimming hole or the wood-fired sauna. The sauna and river access is located at the main guest house, a half block from the rental.
Or perhaps you would prefer starting a little warming fire in the stove (small is the word here, as it takes very little to make the Wagon toasty warm). Perk a freshly ground pot of coffee or brew a cup of tea.
Near your wagon there is a small outdoor fireplace, a hammock and a table chair set on the patio, as well as an outhouse with a "lovable loo" composting toilet and hand washing station.
Mavens' Haven has a full kitchen for guests who wish to cook meals. Other guests may be using the facilities, as well, so please clean up afterwards. No one lives in the main building, it is a communal space and guests are welcome to make use of it. There are great spaces for reading and relaxing, there.
The orchard and gardens produce fresh vegetables most of the year. Guests are encouraged to help themselves when preparing meals ~ there are always fresh eggs in the refrigerator for your use.
In the heat of summer, a Salmon River eddy, just below the property, offers a safe place for a cooling dip.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the gardens, the main Mavens' Haven guest house with WIFI, fully furnished kitchen, library, bathrooms and shower. There is also a game room for cards and board games, as well as a downstairs movie area. WIFI is also available. There is no cell phone reception at the Haven or Lucile area.

Interaction with guests

There will be someone watching for your arrival to greet you and get you settled in. However, if you arrive late, you may have to follow the signs or directions to your accommodation and be officially greeted and shown around come morning.

Other things to note

The Riggins area claims itself as the "whitewater capital of the world". There are float trips daily throughout the summer offered through a wide variety of outfitters.

We stayed in Darcy's sheep wagon mid-way through a two week road trip. Though they are small quarters, it was one of the best night's sleep we had throughout the entire trip!

We picked a different wagon once we got there which was more shaded and private ( the garden wagon). Host was welcoming and we were invited to peruse the extensive vegetable garden, swim in the river, look around, cook in the house kitchen/use bathroom/shower and ask for anything we needed. It was really a nice stay. Beautiful setting, peaceful, a great place for one night or several. Swam in the river off a tiny sand beach. Heaven really.

The only thing I would recommend is better directions. Hard to find at night and there's not an address and there's no service. So maybe step by step directions from the highway. Great fun place to stay

Darcy was incredibly helpful and accommodating. Considering the location (off the grid) Darcy provided resources to ensure we easily found our way. She encouraged us to take advantage of the community garden for fresh food and the pickle ball court for fun. Her sweet demeanor makes the location that much more charming.

Our stay in the sheep wagon was delightful; it was a step back in time with a glass pitcher and basin, hand made soaps, and hand ground coffee just to name a few. The house had all the amenities and was a short walk away. Very quiet neighborhood.

We loved this place, the sheep wagons were so cute. The host was very sweet and so were the other people we met during our two day stay. Wish we could have stayed longer.
