Though the hosts emailed me directions I didn't meet Jing or Wayana. This listing was essentially a room in a hotel and didn't have any hallmarks of a traditional Airbnb experience. The view was good and the gardens well maintained. However the cleanliness was a let down. We found that our bed sheets were heavily stained. When querying it with reception they accused us of not telling them sooner so they could have changed them when the housekeeping was around... The sheets were changed when we arrived back from dinner, however these were still stained. In short, very overpriced a very underwhelming and disappointing experience.
Hi Freddie, we've shared your feedback with our housekeeping staff and the reception. Thanks for the balanced review as we do enjoy the views and gardens as well. I'm confused what you should mean about the hallmarks of Airbnb-ness since we were the first bungalows on Airbnb in our neighborhood. We've done well enough on Airbnb to go from 3 bungalows to 12 now. I do regret that you missed out on all the good things to do/explore in the area and got so focused on a bed-sheet stain.
Had a great time there. Clean room, breakfast was good and the view was great. Scooters can be rented at the lobby. The infinity pool nice and clean.
Wayana welcomed us with a bright smile! Very warm and friendly, and the property is gorgeous. Beautiful views (just like it says!), delicious food, and super relaxing vibe. No wifi in the room, only in main areas (restaurant & pool), but works well there. The rooms are clean and feel very Western-hotel-style for Bali vs some more rustic places we've stayed. Though there was no fridge, hand towels or wifi in the room, all of which would have been nice to have.
Wayana was very helpful whenever I messaged her, and the staff on-site is top notch. The front desk lady could have used a helper though, she was working her butt off (all with grace & poise, mind you)! She was away when we left, but I would have loved to give her a big tip. (Please give that woman a raise or hire a second person to be her runner! :)
The infinity pool is wonderful, and I enjoyed getting a massage out in the cabana listening to the waves crash and the birds sing. It was paradise! Highly recommended.
p.s. We loved walking over to Single Fin and exploring all the bars/shops/restaurants along the cliffside in that area. Delicious food at Single Fin, and very cool vibe while watching the surfers catch waves. Worth checking out!
This villa is amazing!Although it is a little bit hard to find but the view here is fantastic.Wayana is really thoughtful, send me a local map and make a footnote.Stafs here are really helpful. We rent a motorbike here, really convenient to nearby.I highly recommend here.
Overall, I was disappointed with my experience at Uluwatu Cottages:
-Jing is a gracious host, while I did not meet him during my stay he was very responsive in communication prior (I had a lot of questions!).
-The grounds are gorgeous and well kept.
Things that can be improved:
-I actually felt a little duped after finding out this was Uluwatu Cottages (I don't believe this is explicitly stated in their description), which I could have booked on another site for a lower cost.
-We could not find the cottages and the phone number provided on AirBnB was disconnected (this has since been updated).
-I needed to work, so I confirmed with Jing beforehand that there would be wifi available. The wifi in the room was essentially non-existent and I had to go to the dining area instead on multiple occasions for long periods of time to utilize the wifi. I suggest getting stronger wifi signal in the rooms otherwise letting guests know the wifi is only accessible in the common areas.
-Miscommunication between staff. We were told by various staff members different things about scooter rentals --> 70K rupiah vs 60K rupiah for full day rental, half-day rental available vs not available. When I communicated the different messages I was told to staff, I felt like I was being reprimanded. I also asked for late checkout from one staff member who said it was totally fine, the next day I was given attitude by another staff member that there was no late check-out.
-Overall, I felt the service staff at the front desk to be rather poor. I ended my Bali trip in Uluwatu, prior to this finding Balinese hosts disarmingly genuine and kind in their service. Here, I felt like I was in America again with that distasteful American service I'm all too familiar with (I can say this, I'm American). Perhaps I was just spoiled by my previous hosts, but I hope service can be improved!
The Cottages were amazing. Great location. Just a 30 second scooter ride away from the Ulu cliffs and best surf. Hanging out at the cottages was amazing. The pool is great and the view is spectacular. Very peaceful and quite and a great place to come back to escape after surfing and wanting to relax. I will definitely come back and stay here.

About the Host, Jing And Wayana
Bali-fornia: Jing is from California and Wayana is from Bali. Our family loves travel, our island, and our doors are open to fun-loving travellers.
Hi there. I worked at Airbnb for Indonesia market development. I host professionally on Airbnb now and have a hospitality management business.
I studied at Berkeley and came out to the real world with an engineering degree in the dot-com crash of 2000. I worked in a nuclear physics lab, wrote C++ code, and then I took off to travel the world for two years, across Asia and Latin America. When I came to Bali, I stopped traveling. Bali was my new home. I met the perfect girl, she was Balinese and very pretty. I took her to dinner and missed my flight. I ended up staying on the island.

Jing and I have been married since 2007 and we have a young daughter Eka. Just ask and we'll be happy to take you to see hidden beaches, underground parties and off-the-beaten path things to see/do in Bali. We hope you'll share a few interesting tid-bits about yourselves as well.
Our favourite thing about hosting is getting the feeling of traveling without leaving Bali. Getting to experience a guest's culture and background is something we enjoy a lot. We make a point to meet each guest and get to know them a bit. Each guest is different and unique, we try 'feel' what you're in the mood for and go from there.
