The Space

A self contained chalet/cabin in the garden of a beautiful villa in Stanley Bay, Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand.

The cabin is modern and comfortable. Cosy and warm in winter - with a heat pump. Cool and open in the summer.

Queen size bed with mattress topper, new kitchenette with electric stove top, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, no oven but BBQ available. Everything provided in the kitchen. New bathroom with shower, heated towel rail. WIFI in the chalet. T.V./Radio/DVD. You may use the washing machine in the main house at any time.

Balcony with table and chairs is the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. Access to the swimming pool (in summer) if you like. It is solar heated.

We supply you with a wide variety of easy food - eggs, milk, butter, bread, home made jam, cereal, bananas, tomatoes, cheese and crackers, orange juice, and a welcome drink of some small bottles of white wine; red wine or champagne.. Great if you arrive later in the afternoon or evening, and don't want to go out for a meal. Have a glass of wine and egg on toast, on the balcony. We have a selection of great reads/games for a rainy, relaxing afternoon as well.

Stanley Bay Beach is a place to relax and see the city lights. It is just down the road from us. It has a "worker's ferry timetable" which means it runs weekdays, in the morning and afternoon, but not in the middle of the day. Otherwise Devonport village is a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk. If you don't have a car, we are happy to pick you up from the Devonport Ferry. It leaves every half an hour. Buses run directly from the airport to the Ferry building so we are easy to find. During your stay, we also drive to Devonport regularly each day and can offer a lift when needed. Devonport is the best place in Auckland - so we think! Great restaurants, an information centre, a pub, a cinema, waterfront walks.

You can park inside our house property, off the street. The chalet is separate from the house, across the garden.

Ideal for a couple, or single person. No smoking please.

Please let me know if you have any questions. We look forward to meeting you.

  • Very peaceful and perfectly comfortable night and an enjoyable breakfast - we could not have wished for better accommodation and a more friendly and helpful host. We were sorry we did not have the time to stay longer in this delightful location and hope we might return one day.

  • Sherry was an amazing hostess! Her charming cabin was the perfect place for a little r&r at the start of our New Zealand adventure. She stocked the fridge and cupboard and even let us use her laundry room! Devonport (email hidden) with easy access to beaches and mountains, as well as a short ferry ride from Auckland. Definitely go to Waiheke and climb Mount Victoria while you're there!

  • We had a wonderful stay in Devonport at the cabin. It was the perfect place to wrap up the last days of our holiday. Excellent location and beautiful, comfortable accommodations! Big thanks to Sherry! Hope you can come to Boston!!

  • Great place to stay, especially after a long trip over from the U.S. Sherry was wonderful and very helpful. Not only was (email hidden) to stay, but she also welcomed us with some food in the pantry and homemade jam and other goodies that went beyond a normal stay. Would highly recommend it to others staying in the Auckland area!

  • We were at the little cabin at the beginning and end of our 2-month journey to NZ, and feel like we met long lost relatives! Had a wonderful time, and lots of great chats. Our connection will endure the many thousands of miles between our homes, and hope they take us up on our offer to come to Maine! First though, they have to go see South Island!

  • Sherry's cute little backyard cabin was just the thing for our Auckland wedding anniversary. We had a great night in between traveling from Australia and driving down to the Coromandel, and Sherry made sure that we were well looked after, with a stocked fridge and pantry, and a ride to the Devonport restaurant district for our anniversary dinner. Not that the shops are too far away — we had a leisurely stroll home after dinner, with a great nighttime view of the city skyline as a backdrop.

Would stay here again in a flash if we're ever in the area. Thanks Sherry and Tim!

  • Our family away from home! We never had any doubt that our stay in Devonport would be fine, as we acclimated to NZ and prepared to explore the country for 2 months. Because we had so much time, and we had close family friends in Auckland, we decided to stay there for 12 days and get our bearings. Our choice of the little cottage in Devonport could not have been better!

The Edes are truly gracious and welcoming hosts. They acted as though we were long lost relatives, and we began to work hard at being sure we did not take advantage of their exceeding good will! We did not have a car for the first few days, so the only (minor) inconvenience was getting to downtown, which was just over a mile. It is an easy walk if you haven't just gotten off a 12-hour flight, so they kept offering to drive us down whenever we wanted to go to town or take the ferry to Auckland. They were very generous.

The cottage was a large room with a kitchenette, very pleasant, quiet, and well stocked. It was a great respite from the City, but easy to get to all the sights. Once we got a car, we still opted to take the ferry in to Auckland unless we were exploring well outside the central city. Thanks to the Edes for their amazing hospitality, and we look forward to returning to the cottage at the end of our trip in 6 weeks!

  • The cabin was beautiful, and had everything we needed-and more! It is wonderfully decorated and very comfortable. It's in a brilliant location, within easy walking distance of the water and all the lovely cafes and shops of Devonport. There us a ferry which takes you across the harbour to the city centre.
Sherry and Tim were great hosts, and very accommodating. We'd definitely stay again!

  • Sherry is an absolute diamond! Communication was great during our stay, the fridge and cupboards were crammed with goodies and she picked us up and dropped us back at Devonport ferry so that we didn't have to drag our bags across the bay. The place itself is a lovely studio, spacious and tidy with a nice ensuite. We felt very welcome during our stay and felt that Sherry went well beyond what was required of a host. Staying here for a few days was the perfect way for us to end our trip in New Zealand.

  • Sherry's cabin was lovely - very comfortable (email hidden) to stay. Sherry fills the fridge and cupboard with all sorts of delectable food and drink. Sherry and her family were very friendly and hospitable. I felt very at home. It (email hidden) to stay (email hidden) for me to start my first ever half marathon. I would highly recommend staying here.
