Father David was a great host. Very helpful and kind. The red tree lofts are so unique! Perfect location walking distance to all the restaurants. We would definitely return!
I rented Father David's loft for a girls night out. The space was AMAZING! It was a very old home with great eclectic decor and lots of fun touches like bookcase door ways. It was located in a hip part of town, right across from a popular bar and in walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops.
Father David was very laid back and friendly and was eager to make our stay a fun one. We really enjoyed ourselves and I would recommend the place to anyone that enjoys old charm.
This space is amazing. The design of the Lofts is so unique and the decorating is gorgeous. We did not spend a lot of time here during our visit to Lousiville and so did not really get to enjoy or take advantage of the 2nd floor, but we had the run of the place and the living area is truly special. The linens and furnishings were quite comfortable. There was some minor oversights with regard to cleaning and maintenance, but our early check-in may have been to (website hidden). David was very accommodating. There was a slight miscommunication regarding our arrival but he allowed us to check in quite early in the day so I can't complain. During our stay, he was readily available via email and made sure to check in on us, which was appreciated.
The location was perfect for us and we easily walked to Waterfront Park for the Forecastle Festival. NuLu is a great up-and-coming neighborhood with many local eateries and shops, which we really enjoyed. Directly across the street from the Lofts is an awesome bar that we visited more than once, but be aware that it is extremely popular on the weekends and very loud late at night. We were exhausted by the time we returned in the evenings, so it didn't keep us up but it could be bothersome to others. You can also hear and see bits and pieces of the store below, but since we were usually gone during the day when the store was open, this wasn't a problem.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay here. I do think it was a bit expensive given that we did not need or use the kitchen or second floor living area, so it would be nice to have the option to just book the 3rd level which is more than adequate for most travelers. That being said, those staying for longer periods would certainly appreciate the entire space. We would definitely book the Lofts again.
Father Dave is crazy FUN! The loft is in a prime location.
It is a Bohemian style set up, which was fun. Very spacious. There was trouble with the air unit, but he opened up additional parts of the loft to make our stay nicer. You definitely need to "go with the flow" with this space, but I would recommend it overall.
We (2 couples) rented the entire Red Tree Lofts space. After a misunderstanding that was swiftly handled by AirBnB Customer Support (and accommodated by Fr. David), we had a good overall experience.
Positives: GREAT location, very unique space, very gracious host.
Negatives: The space is quite noisy (both from street noise & from the store below, which is actually visible through floorboards, you can hear entire conversations as they occur downstairs). Floors are unsanded -- they provided slippers but we'd forget & end up with splinters in our feet. None of the entertainment system was connected (DVD, surround sound).
Bring earplugs/white noise if you're a light sleeper, don't go barefoot, and maybe don't expect to watch a movie after dinner, it's a good space : )
