About This Listing
A huge and airy space filled with art, the chapel easily sleeps eight and is the ideal venue to host a gathering of friends or family. Set in a picturesque Lincolnshire village, it has lovely walks and pubs nearby and access to historic Lincoln.
We are two artists and this is our home with our teenage daughter. Featured in the Jan 2014 issue of Psychologies Magazine and in the Saturday Times Magazine in 2013, we have lovingly converted it over 14 years and it offers an amazing huge airy space in which to host a relaxing break in the English countryside. It is full of interesting objects and has an atmosphere of bohemian shabby chic. There are three bedrooms: two with double beds, one with two single beds and there is a double sofa bed in the snug downstairs. There is one family bathroom with a shower and a downstairs loo. Downstairs is one large open space with a non fitted kitchen, including a double oven, a family sized fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is full central heating and wi-fi throughout the building. There is on street parking outside the chapel. There is a walled courtyard outside. It is perfectly situated in the centre of the county making it an appealing venue to host a weekend with friends and family who are based in different parts of the UK.
Although in the centre of a charming limestone Lincolnshire village, it is only a 20 minute drive (10 miles) to Lincoln City where you can visit one of the most important Cathedrals in the UK, as well as Lincoln Castle that houses the Magna Carta. The annual Waddington RAF air show takes place during the summer and is just 5 miles away from our village. The Lincoln Christmas Market is also an important international annual event. Lincoln has a good museum and contemporary art gallery, The Collection, as well as theatres and lots of great restaurants and bars.
If you prefer a quieter time, the chapel is situated on the historic Viking Way, a world famous walking route, so there are walks that begin from the door, with stunning views across the landscape. There are two pubs in Wellingore and in the next village, a 15 minute walk away, there is an award winning bakery, restaurants, pubs and antique shops to explore, as well as 'Mrs Smith's Cottage', a small historic house open to the public during the summer months.
There is a regular bus service between the village and Lincoln with a direct train service from Lincoln to London, as well as other major cities.
Interaction with Guests
We will meet and greet you when you arrive and show you around the chapel. We will then leave you the key to enjoy the place. Should you need any assistance, we are at the end of the phone during your stay.
We ask no pets and that smoking be limited to the outside garden.
Please close the upstairs windows when you leave the property, as if it rains damage is caused.
We ask visitors to be respectful of neighbours. Although noise is not a problem, please do not park in front of the neighbours drive.
Nicola was so helpful and answered the hundreds of questions that I had before arriving at the property, we felt very welcome in the chapel and were left some essentials to get us going. The chapel itself is a beautiful property and we thought that the photos actually don't do it justice.
We had a wonderful time here for my hen do. Lovely place with plenty of space and such a pretty area. We were even provided with milk, butter and some delicious fresh bread from a local bakery. Even though the village is small and out of the way, we had no problems getting take-away delivered and its easy to hop on the bus to Lincoln for a day out. Would definately recommend!
My family and I had a fantastic stay at the Chapel over Easter bank holiday weekend for a family wedding in Lincoln (approx half an hour's taxi journey away). This extraordinary home totally added to our weekend's experience! It fully lived up to the pictures on the listing, and more! I couldn't do it justice by describing here, suffice to say there are so many details to explore and inspire.
Nicola and John were great hosts, easy to communicate with and flexible in the arrival arrangements as our journey times changed.
Unfortunately we didn't have much time to spend in the neighbourhood as we had a busy day out at the wedding and other family plans. However the village appeared quiet and picturesque with, not one, but two local pubs, which we would have possibly visited on the Friday night had we not felt so at home in the Chapel.
I would highly recommend a stay here for a truly unique family and/or friends get together!
A wonderful stay at this gorgeous location. Nicola was very welcoming and provided some lovely extras for us. The space was perfect for us and I can't recommend it enough
Nicola and John were fantastic hosts, everything was ready when we arrived and they'd kindly stocked the fridge with a little bit of milk/bread.
The Chapel is wonderful and the surrounded villages are lovely. Would definitely recommend and return for another visit!
What a lovely home and living space. Very unique. Facilities were excellent and the hosts friendly and accommodating. Lovely little town.
About the Host, Nicola
I am an illustrator and award winning graphic novelist. I am married to artist John Plowman and we live with our teenager daughter Sally (17). We originally moved from London to convert this former Methodist chapel and we love the space we have created. We divide our time between Brighton and Lincolnshire so we welcome you as guests in our chapel. It is not perfect, there are unfinished bits, but it offers the most unique and inspiring atmosphere.
We have stayed in a few air bnbs during the past few years and John and I aim to offer you the comfort and style that we have experienced from others.
