About this listing

A huge airy space filled with art, the chapel can accommodate a maximum of 8 people on the property at all times. It is ideal for gatherings of friends and family and perfect for hen nights, reunions, writers' retreats. Walks and pubs nearby and close to historic Lincoln. PLEASE NOTE the chapel is our home not a venue, so not appropriate for larger functions.

The space

John and I are artists and we have lovingly converted the chapel over 17 years to make it our home with our daughter. Featured in Psychologies Magazine and in the Saturday Times Magazine, it offers an amazing and gigantic airy space in which to host a relaxing break in the English countryside. It is full of interesting objects and a vast library of books that we have collected over the years and invite you to enjoy during your stay. If you are curious about life, culture and art you will have a fun time staying here. With an atmosphere of bohemian shabby chic, it has quirks, but the photos cannot capture the feeling of space, calm and tranquility. It offers comfortable accommodation for a group of family or friends. It is also fantastic for hen nights, reunions and photo shoots. It is built for song, laughter and conversation and will bring you the joy of birdsong to wake you in the morning. The chapel comfortably sleeps 8 people based on sharing as there are two double beds, one sofa bed and two single beds. Whilst we welcome your celebrations, the chapel is our home not a venue and we ask you to respect this and not to exceed the number of people booked.

There are three bedrooms: two rooms have double beds, one has two single beds and there is a basic double sofa bed in a separate room downstairs. This is a separate downstairs room adjacent to the main living space, offering privacy. Upstairs there is one family bathroom with a shower and one of the upstairs bedrooms also has a shower in it. There is a downstairs loo. Downstairs is one large open space with a non fitted kitchen, including a double oven, a family sized fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is full central heating and wi-fi throughout the building. There is on street parking outside the chapel. There is a walled courtyard outside full of growing herbs in the summer. It is perfectly situated in the centre of the county making it an appealing place to host a weekend with friends and family who are based in different parts of the UK.

Although in the centre of a charming limestone Lincolnshire village, it is only a 20 minute drive (10 miles) to Lincoln City where you can visit one of the most important Cathedrals in the UK, as well as Lincoln Castle that houses the Magna Carta. Lincoln has a good museum and contemporary art gallery, The Collection, as well as theatres and lots of great restaurants and bars.

If you prefer a quieter time, the chapel is situated on the historic Viking Way, a world famous walking route, so there are walks that begin from the door, with stunning views across the landscape. There are two pubs in Wellingore, both serve food and the Red Lion, is by all reports good. Navenby is the next village, a 15 minute walk away, where you will find an award winning bakery, a delightful brasserie 'Macys', The Kings Head pub that serves good food and antique shops to explore. 'Mrs Smith's Cottage' is a small historic house in Navenby that is open to the public during the summer months. There is also a small co-op supermarket, a pharmacy and take aways.

A regular No 1 connect bus service runs between Wellingore and Lincoln or Grantham and there is a direct train service from Lincoln to London, as well as other major cities. The nearest train stations are Grantham or Newark.

Guest access

The chapel and courtyard will be available exclusively for you during your stay.

Interaction with guests

We will meet and greet you when you arrive and show you around the chapel. We will then leave you the key to enjoy the place. Should you need any assistance, we are at the end of the phone during your stay.

Other things to note

Please do not park across the next door neighbour's driveway, there is usually ample on street parking directly outside the chapel.

We loved the building and had a great stay! The rooms are spacious and the bathroom is particularly special! The area is nice and quiet with a couple of nice pubs, but also not too far to drive to some larger towns and villages. We went out to do some outdoor activities in the local area so was a great base to come back to. Would definitely recommend!

The old Methodist Church has been renovated into a wonderful home. Nicola has added her amazing artistic touch to every nook and crany. The space is wide open and very comfortable. Bedrooms were great and we slept like babies. There were 6 of us and we had plenty of room. When we cooked we would take a short walked into Navenby where we would buy fresh meat and vegetables. The scenery is breathtaking. It was an absolutely wonderful holiday.

Nicola User ProfileNicola is a superhost.

I am an illustrator and award winning graphic novelist. I am married to artist John Plowman and we have a teenage daughter. We originally moved from London to convert this former Methodist chapel into a unique home and we love the space we have created. Our daughter has now left home and John and I live and work in our studio next door when we are not in the chapel. We welcome you as guests in our chapel to enjoy the aspects we have delighted in over the years. It is our home not a hotel so not perfect. There are unfinished bits and some quirks, but it offers a most unusual and inspiring party atmosphere for a group of friends and/or family.

We have stayed in a number of air bnbs during the past few years and John and I aim to offer you the comfort and style that we have experienced from others.
