We had a very nice stay in the old town of Gaeta. The apartment is nicely situated, close to the old town and lots of nice restaurants and about 15-20 minutes walk to the beach. We did not make it to the shopping streets and the big supermarket, but this is also about 30min walk and there are buses going there. No need for this though, because old Gaeta is definitely the place for a drink and nice food. Gaeta is relatively quiet town, we visited it in July and we hardly met any tourists. It is not the place for big parties, but definitely for a couple of relaxed days. We stayed a couple of days in Rome, and then went here, what worked well for us.
The apartment was very nice, spatious and Davide was very friendly, he helped us with the basics of getting around in Gaeta and booked a taxi for us for the way back. Definitely recommendable.
We stayed in Davide's place in Old Town Gaeta for 2 weeks in May. The place looks exactly like the pictures - high, arched ceilings, balcony, secure access, fast internet. Kitchen is small, but usable for short stays. Located in the very heart of medieval Gaeta.
We used both the bicycles and the scooter that are available, which allowed quick jaunts to the beach, shopping, dining, and sightseeing.
Davide was extremely helpful, and even had us over for a spectacular dinner one night! He was in the middle of running the Memorie Urbane street art festival, which included performances, film screenings, and a stencil workshop. We also got to have drinks and a meal with a few international graffiti artists, who were in town for the festival. Through Davide, we had access to the innermost circles of arts and culture in Gaeta, while still enjoying our explorations as tourists.
Gaeta is off the radar for English speaking tourists, and we really enjoyed our time in this medieval mountain beach town. Supposedly, it really fills up with people in the summer months, but in May, it had a very nice feel.
Big thanks to our friend Davide, for his hospitality. See you around!
