Layton’s Lookout is located on the Rappahannock river in Colonial Beach Virginia. The scenic river is home to bald eagles, ospreys and great blue Herons. The river offers the perfect kayaking experience and for boaters, a boat ramp is nearby. Fishing, hunting, hiking and sightseeing are popular in this area.

Westmoreland County is the birthplace of President George Washington, President James Monroe, General Robert E. Lee and of two signers of the Declaration of Independence, Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee.
Things to do in the area include the Chesapeake Wine Trail, Colonial Beach Brewing (10 miles), George Washington Birthplace National Monument (6.6), James Monroe Birthplace (11), Montross Brewery (9), Stratford Hall (9), Town of Colonial Beach (11), The Virginia Oyster Trail, Westmoreland County Museum & Library (9) and Westmoreland State Park (8) to name a few.

Los Hermanos Cantina is an upper scale Mexican restaurant located on the water. The food, service and atmosphere do not disappoint. The Sunflower is excellent! Angelo’s Pizza restaurant is a quaint little Italian restaurant in Montross.
