The space

If it's peace and quiet you are seeking then this is the cottage for you. Cosy and self contained, this is the ideal place to relax after a busy day at one of the magnificent far north beaches or a trip to Cape Reinga.
The covered deck offers shelter from the elements as you sip a glass of wine and your steak sizzles beside you on the gas BBQ.
Don't be put off by winter - it's not usually cold here anyway but we provide loads of firewood for the attractive woodburning freestanding fireplace so you will be toasty warm and cosy while you relax in front of the TV or play a game of scrabble.
It's great fun and very easy to dig up Tuatuas on Ninety Mile Beach. Bring them home and eat, steamed - delicious with fresh bread and butter and a cold beer.
The well equipped kitchen makes meal preparation easy and it's not far to local restaurants for sit down service or takeaways if that's your preference.
The large refrigerator and ample shelving allow guests to shop in advance for self catering.

Free WiFi is available along with TV, DVD and also a landline telephone (on request).

Ducks and herons visit the pond regularly and a delightful range of birds flit to and fro amongst the trees. Our own trio of ducks provide endless entertainment as they go about their daily business.
Stroll amongst the King Protea flowers grown for the export market or pop over the bridge and visit the horses.
Rabbits, hares, quail, turkeys and various other small wild creatures will pop up and surprise you every now and then adding to your experience of kiwi rural life.
Protea Park cottage is near to the east coast beaches, Rarawa and Henderson Bay, fantastic for diving, fishing, swimming and surfing. And if you drive through the forests of the west coast, especially at dusk or dawn, you are likely to see a herd or two of beautiful wild horses
It's an easy drive to Cape Reinga on sealed roads with little other traffic. Enjoy the wonders of Northland - take side trips to Spirits Bay, Te Hapua, Taupotupotu, Parengarenga, Scotts Point, the Bluff.

The East coast bays are amazing and the legendary and very dramatic 90 Mile Beach on the west coast is an absolute must to see with its wild wind and golden sand.

All-around wonderful experience! Next time we'll definitely stay longer. The unit is entirely separate so guests get their privacy, but Polly and Geoff were there, happy to help, as well. Their farm is beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. We loved all the animals too! The kitchen is f…

This place is perfect for a get away. Private, secluded, warm, clean, and has everything you need without any clutter that you don't. We would have loved to stay longer, but, alas, work is work. I recommend it as a perfect get away and for a jumping off point for many activities …

Our stay was fantastic! Polly was a lovely host- helpful, and quick to make sure we had everything we needed. The home is in a lovely, secluded spot. Perfect for relaxation! If we're back in the North again, we'll definitely be stopping here. :)

My husband and I live on a Protea Flower farm where we grow flowers for export. We are both New Zealanders and have lived in the far north for 9 1/2 years after moving from Auckland for a change of lifestyle. The self contained holiday cottage has proved to be a great success a…
