Thank you for your interest in The Lookout. We require a two night booking except when there is only one night available between bookings then we will accept a single night. When Monday is a holiday, we prefer a three night booking for the holiday week-ends. We have already accepted a booking during the total solar eclipse.

The space

Our unique three story lookout tower was fashioned after a Forest Service fire lookout tower, the cozy 20' x 20' square upper living/kitchen area offers a 360 degree unobstructed view of Central Oregon's 13 snow capped volcanic Cascade Mountain peaks. The deck on the top level completely surrounds the structure and has deck chairs and a gas BBQ for your enjoyment. Built with reclaimed lumber from a navy shipyard, it has many features that make it very cozy. Bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the middle and lower levels. Our home is on 5 acres of natural landscape on the Crooked River Ranch development. It is a perfect artist/writer retreat. We have an outdoor hot tub and free wireless internet so you need not venture out unless you choose to. A first class golf course and community salt water pool are available for your enjoyment in the summer. The Deschutes River is near by that many fishing and rafting enthusiasts enjoy. Smith Rocks State Park is across the highway for hiking or rock climbing. Winter sports are available at Mt. Bachelor just 50 miles away. It is a 3 1/2 hour drive from Portland International Airport or 20 minutes from the Redmond, Oregon Airport to our vacation home.

Terrebonne, OR is 15 minutes away and offers a grocery store and restaurant. Driving 5 miles further south on Hwy 97 you come to Redmond, OR and then 20 miles more Bend, OR where you can enjoy wonderful restaurants, theaters and shopping.

From the moment that we saw the picture of the lookout, we knew that we wanted to stay there. We are very happy that we were able to! Loved the fact that you have wrap around windows on the top level. We spent every evening watching the sunset while sitting on the deck. We took a stroll to the edge of the property on the trail that the owners created. It was very peaceful and private. Patti's instructions were clear and we had no problem finding the lookout. I would definitely stay there again.

Everything about the Solar Lookout is true, a place that feels magical and practical at the same time. You never want to leave (though Steelhead Falls is worth leaving for). I feel lucky to have discovered it! It was the perfect place to watch the total solar eclipse.

We travelled through Oregon and had seen quite some places but when we spent 3 days in the Lookout Tower everything was just perfect; the space, the great design, the views, the hot tub. And with clear skies (except for some smoke from nearby forest fires) from dusk to dawn we just did not want to leave anymore. Marcel & family from Haarlem, the Netherlands

all reviews have it right: this place is incredible! patti has thought of everything and i mean EVERYTHING! it seems there's not a stone left unturned when it comes to what you could want or need once tucked away at this unique house. don't hesitate to bring a dog or a small child (although i left my four legged one at home on this trip) because there are all the amenities you could possibly need so you don't have to haul them yourselves. we sat on the deck and watched jackrabbits, deer, chickadees and the highlight? two golden eagles dancing around on the updrafts of air after a thunderstorm moved through the area. it is a stunning destination. my two tips, aside from the amazing home you will be staying in? take advantage of all the local hikes and enjoy the outdoor shower! relax and breathe. this place is meant for doing just that!

My husband Lonnie and I saw the inside of this unique home on Christmas morning 2005. The owners were friends and neighbors of my sister and brother-in-law. Over coffee we happen to say that if you ever think about selling, please ask us first. They looked at each other in surprise and told us that just that very morning they talked for the first time about selling and going on an extended road trip. We said, "let us know how much you want" and with in the next year we were the proud owners of The Lookout. We have used it only for our own enjoyment and loaned it out to close friends and family up until now. We just got on "the grid" so now it is easier for guests to enjoy our property without being concerned if they would run out of solar power. We know you will be just as awe struck as we were when you see The Lookout for the first time. Be prepared to have an unforgettable time! My husband and I live in the Portland area and own or own business.
