Cozy Three Story Lookout Tower

House - Entire home/apt · Southwest Dove Road, Terrebonne, OR 97760, United States

Thank you for your interest in The Lookout, our rate for the week-end nights is higher than midweek and we also have the higher rate for the Sunday night when Monday is a holiday. We prefer a three night booking for holiday week-ends No cleaning fees

The Space

Our unique three story lookout tower was fashioned after a Forest Service fire lookout tower, the cozy 20' x 20' square upper living/kitchen area offers a 360 degree unobstructed view of Central Oregon's 13 snow capped volcanic Cascade Mountain peaks. The deck on the top level completely surrounds the structure and has deck chairs and a gas BBQ for your enjoyment. Built with reclaimed lumber from a navy shipyard, it has many features that make it very cozy. Bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the middle and lower levels. Our home is on 5 acres of natural landscape on the Crooked River Ranch development. It is a perfect artist/writer retreat. We have an outdoor hot tub and free wireless internet so you need not venture out unless you choose to. A first class golf course and community salt water pool are available for your enjoyment in the summer. The Deschutes River is near by that many fishing and rafting enthusiasts enjoy. Smith Rocks State Park is across the highway for hiking or rock climbing. Winter sports are available at Mt. Bachelor just 50 miles away. It is a 3 1/2 hour drive from Portland International Airport or 20 minutes from the Redmond, Oregon Airport to our vacation home.

Terrebonne, OR is 15 minutes away and offers a grocery store and restaurant. Driving 5 miles further south on Hwy 97 you come to Redmond, OR and then 20 miles more Bend, OR where you can enjoy wonderful restaurants, theaters and shopping.

  • The lookout tower was amazing!! The views are wonderful, everything is surprisingly clean for being in such a dusty area, and the kitchen and living room have everything you'd want. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the deck with our coffee in the morning, looking at the many visible mountains. The bed and pillows were all very comfy. There was air conditioning when we were home mid-day (nice on those summer days in the 90s), but it wasn't even necessary at night. Can't find anything wrong with it to mention -- we definitely hope to make it a yearly tradition! :) Bonus: close to Smith Rock hiking & Bend, too! :)

  • The Lookout Tower was truly a magical place. It was better than I even imagined. The views were incredible. It was a pleasure to cook meals and hang out on the top floor. Truly a dream! Patti was very helpful and accommodating- a wonderful host. I will definitely be returning!

  • I can't describe how amazing this place is. My only hesitance would be too many people finding out about it and it being constantly booked. We will definitely be back!

  • Our stay at the Solar Lookout was absoultely fantastic. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world which I have ever stayed. We enjoyed magnificent sunsets from a 360 panoramic view from the top level and in the hot tub. This is such a hidden gem and we will be back!

  • Patti was helpful and very available by e-mail. The Lookout was less rustic and more magical than I had envisioned, views were extraordinary and the area has much to see. We may have to make this an annual pilgrimage.

  • This place is absolutely awesome and, if you are looking for a remote getaway, not much can compare out there. I have been staying all over the world in airbnb properties (from Greece to Spain, New York to Japan, Whistler to Portland and the list goes on...) for 5-6+ years and this is in my top 3 easily.

We loved it !!! We loved the story of this place too! We already booked to come back for a longer trip.

The property has so much character and spirit and is in such a beautiful part of the world with so many places to visit in the local area (within a 1-2 hour drive, or much less). The 360 views are out of this world, the design of the place is original and unmatched, the patio is awesome, the natural feel and wildlife that I woke up to each morning was invigorating, the hot tub after a day of hiking or mountain biking was a lifesaver, BBQ provided fire, and it was all in a very private setting.

I would like to keep this place all to myself ;) but Patti deserves a wonderful review and I would highly recommend it to anyone that will treat the property with the love and respect it deserves.

If you do stay here, please take good care of everything so we can ALL enjoy it for a long time to come...and make sure you read the book about the house written by the original owner as that is what makes this place extra special and takes this place to the next level...

Not much more to say = just read the other reviews and it says it all...

  • We had a great stay at The Lookout and really enjoyed the excellent views of the Cascades and surrounding area from the deck as well as the wide variety of birds that came by to visit the feeder. This cabin is unique and fun, albeit somewhat rustic, and was clean and neat when we arrived. The only issue we encountered was the tricky hot water when using the shower, so baths are recommended instead. The trail back to the river overlook made for a pleasant stroll through the high desert landscape, and the nearby trail along the Deschutes to Steelhead Falls and beyond is very scenic as well. Patti was very communicative and arranged our stay quickly on rather short notice, and we're grateful that she has made this cabin available for us to enjoy.

  • Our stay at the lookout was amazing! The pictures don't quite do the place justice and the surrounding grounds are also beautiful. Patti was a very communicative host and was very quick to answer any questions we had.

My husband Lonnie and I saw the inside of this unique home on Christmas morning 2005. The owners were friends and neighbors of my sister and brother-in-law. Over coffee we happen to say that if you ever think about selling, please ask us first. They looked at each other in surprise and told us that just that very morning they talked for the first time about selling and going on an extended road trip. We said, "let us know how much you want" and with in the next year we were the proud owners of The Lookout. We have used it only for our own enjoyment and loaned it out to close friends and family up until now. We just got on "the grid" so now it is easier for guests to enjoy our property without being concerned if they would run out of solar power. We know you will be just as awe struck as we were when you see The Lookout for the first time. Be prepared to have an unforgettable time! My husband and I live in the Portland area and own or own business.
