Gae, Mel, and Yuki were wonderful hosts, and I feel like they are what is unique and special about Airbnb vs. a typical hotel. Their home is warm, full of beautiful art, and located in a wonderfully safe and central part of San Francisco (no kidding: the views are phenomenal). Moreover, Gae and Mel made me feel right at home with a glass of wine, recommendations on what to see and do, and an invitation to their home in Sonoma. They were very respectful of my privacy, and I always felt like I could come and go at my leisure.
I spent 9 days here, while looking for an apartment, and it was a perfect home base, with a place to keep simple groceries, a desk for working, and plenty of peace and quiet. My mom came to visit for 3 days and my hosts were nice enough to set up bedding on the couch in the room, and they even left my mom a lovely note and scarf as a keepsake. I can't say enough good things about Gae and Mel. They are just really classy, nice people.
One thing I would note is that this unit should probably be listed as a room in someone's house rather than an "entire apartment." The area does have a small kitchen desk area and a private bathroom, but it shares the main entry and foyer with the main home. Those looking for privacy should be aware that the bedroom walls are open at the top and noise/conversations can carry back and forth.
Overall, I enjoyed my time in here. For those of you looking for a real hosted experience in a fun San Francisco neighborhood, this is the place for you. If, however, you are more comfortable in something like a hotel or private suite, I would recommend looking elsewhere. This gem is really about the people and what they can contribute to your experience.
What a wonderful experience. The apartment was exactly as described. It was welcoming, comfortable, and completely full of art! Gae and Mel are great hosts, even though we passed each other like ships in the night, I knew I could have reached out to them with any questions I might have had at any moment. Thank you Gae for allowing me to stay here. It was truly one of my better stays in SF.
Easy parking - rare in SFO, and lots of art.
However this is not "entire place" but a room in the host's apartment. It's not super private or super quiet - the walls are not to the ceiling and neither the door to the bedroom or the bath (which is in the hall) actually latch, which I found odd.
it is not only perfect-located but also make you feel like a gallery. Gae has very good taste which you can tell from the decoration and collection in her house. thank you Gae for your great host.
Gae was a very gracious host, easy to communicate with and available to greet us on our arrival and show us around the place. The art work in the apartment is amazing and we felt like we were living in an art studio for our few days. The neighborhood is delightful with a few great restaurants a nice walk from the apartment allowing beautiful unique views of the city. The bed was very comfortable and we were provided with all we could possibly need during our stay. The apartment in on the lower level of the house and is open to the entryway and living space above. It was not quite as private as we had expected. We certainly enjoyed our stay. Thank you Gai!
The hosts were very welcoming and attentive. The house was full of art as stated. Such a nice experience we had during our stay among many samples of various types of visual art. Location of the house is strategic which offers easy access to city downtown and essential places. Walking in the neighborhood is fun which offers beautiful sceneries of the city.
