This room is a loft room which is accessed by a spiral stair from the first floor landing. There is a a new foam mattress double bed which is remarkably comfortable! There are also two single beds. At the moment the maximum number of guests I can accommodate in this room is 4. I also have a travel cot for an infant up to two and a half, depending on size. The cot could only be used if the double bed is not in use as space would be limited.
The room is quite large and sunny, heated by a radiator and has a chest of drawers and a garment rail.
Guests will have the bathroom/shower on the first floor.
Guests are welcome to use the ground floor kitchen to self cater, and the washing machine in the extension, there is also a shower room/toilet in that extension.

Although my house is quite central in the town, it remains a quiet peaceful place. The shops are a minute away: we have 2 supermarkets, a chemist, bank, post office, butchers and greengrocers and several others. There are several pubs in the town, some with real ale, and some serve food. Hadrian's Wall is the main attraction and the world renowned Roman Army Museum, Vindolanda and Housesteads Forts are within easy reach.
There are many walks here, the town hosts two walking festivals, one in April and the other in October. Both are very popular. Apart from the Hadrian's Wall long distance path, there are many other guided walks which can be bought from the Tourist Information office in the Library. If you want to walk parts of the Wall, there is a little bus which will take you to where you want to start. This bus runs between April and the end of October. Otherwise I would be happy to take/pick you up, and in some cases to transport luggage to the next BNB if walking the Wall.
Haltwhistle has good transport links. There is a station with hourly trains to Newcastle and Carlisle, some trains which stop here go on to Glasgow. The station is a five minute walk from my house. There are also hourly buses to Newcastle and Carlisle. Newcastle International Airport is about 35 minutes away. Both Glasgow and Edinburgh are easy to get to.
Other Things to Note
The Haltwhistle Burn is a lovely little valley which takes you 2 miles up to the Wall at Cawfields Quarry. Along the burn you may see red squirrels, otters, salmon, herons, kestrels, and recently a sighting of a pair of peregrine falcons hunting at the top of the burn.
I love living in Northumberland with its wide skies and sometimes wild weather! There are so many beautiful places to see. To the east is Hexham with its stunning Abbey , to the west, Brampton and Lanercost priory. Haltwhistle also has many Bastle Houses dating from the turbulent times of the Reivers.
The best part of living here is the local people who must be amongst the friendliest to be found anywhere, I'm sure you will love being here.
No smoking in the house, any pets should be well behaved! I would hope guests will show respect for my home and belongings. Guests are welcome to cook their own food for dinner, food can be stored in the 'fridge.
Madeleine was very friendly, and I felt very welcome in her home. The house is very close to the supermarket, which is great, and it is easy to get to from the train station. The room is in a converted attic, with amazing skylights - I kept the blinds open, so I could look at the stars & check out the morning's weather from bed :) Overall, the room & house are cosy, comfy & warm - I'd definitely stay there again!
We have just come back from a short break during which we had a stop-over in Madeleine's home in Haltwhistle. Madeleine was the personification of kindness, hospitality, generosity and genuine simplicity of homeliness. Her listing and her delivery is everything that Airbnb should be. She made us welcome, comfortable and contented. Haltwhistle proved a great little place for a short stop-over and Madeleine helped us make the most of it with her advice and guidance. Altogether a most pleasing stay. Thank you Madelaine and Jess.
The room is very goid and cozy. As a bathroom either. It's too close for bys station and pubs. Madeleine is very nice and helpful. I was very happy to stay un her place.
We had a most excellent stay in Haltwhistle. The room up the little twisty staircase was clean and cheerful. The bathroom all worked. Madeleine made sharing the kitchen easy and with Sainsburys only about a block away, it was easy to buy food to make our own breakfasts and lunches. We were directed to good pubs and things to see and Madeiline was invaluable in helping me get a train ticket on line (saved me a bundle).
We also really enjoyed Jess the border collie who is willing to play endlessly with her ball.
It was a great place to stay for a week on Hadrian's Wall.
Perfect room for what we were after. felt like we had the place to ourselves.
friendly dog too! would book again if in the area
This was a relaxing stay.
Madeleine was a pleasant host who welcomed us warmly.
The room was large, bright airy and the beds extremely comfortable. However as Madeleine would agree the spiral staircase to the upper loft is not for the faint hearted.

I am a retired teacher. I live with my border collie Jess in Northumberland. I have a little garden which is still in the early stages as I've only lived here since December 2009. I enjoy walking, gardening, I am a WI member, I sing in the local choir and attend a book group. I'm trying to learn Italian as I am a quarter Italian and love everything to do with Italy. I also go to drawing classes and am a member of the Garden club. I love to travel and was away in Italy for a month last year, I drove there in March and took Jess with me. Then in August I was a Games Maker in Weymouth for the Olympic sailing. I listen to R4 and R3 . I read a lot and am quite laid back and like to do everything I can to make people welcome and ensure they have a good stay in Northumberland.
