About This Listing
Enjoy our guest room for a comfortable stop over with home hospitality or as a launch pad for exploring our city or region! We live a low-impact lifestyle revitalizing our old house; we enjoy providing visitors and travelers with affordable lodging.
In our historic, clean, but not freshly re-modeled home, you will have your own room with lots of windows, a good heater and/or window unit, and a full (shared)bathroom down the stairs. Though recently acquired, our 1/2 acre of urban land is being steered towards a food forest, complete with fruit trees and quite a bit of vegetable gardening. We move chickens around to add fertility, control weeds, and provide us and our guests with fresh eggs!
Your bed is a King-Sized Mattress and Box Spring that is firm yet comfortable.
Breakfast will be at the time of your choosing and include fresh chicken eggs with garden herbs and a cup of tea!
Nothing fancy here, but basic, affordable, friendly accommodations just two blocks from the infamous Central High School! We are less than 2 miles from the center of downtown, and less than 1 mile from the highway, so you will not be far away from much.
We are happy to host you for a short time and are open to longer term arrangements. Right now we are specifically interested in month long or longer stays.
If you would like to have dinner with us the night of your arrival, we will include you in our meal plan for an extra 5-10 bucks per person, just let us know in advance if this sounds good. We eat a mostly whole food diet with lots of seasonal vegetables, grains, and sometimes meat.
Kevin is a commercial hot air balloon pilot and weather permitting, we may be able to arrange a sunrise hot air balloon ride in or around Little Rock during your stay.
We are open to sharing some refrigerator space and kitchen space with guests as the need arises.
We also have an upright piano and a couple guitars that you are welcome to play!
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy meeting people but are also happy to leave them to their own. We are happy to give recommendations for places to eat or things to do around town and often enjoy having coffee in the morning with our guests!
We love how close to downtown and the highway our neighborhood is. We love the character of the old homes, wide streets, and old trees! The empty lots and homes while a little bit sad are also full of possibility!
We are a block off of a busline that runs between ualr and downtown. Pretty easy to get to and from the airport.
Other Things to Note
Hot Air Balloon Rides are not free, but a great deal so don't hesitate to let us plan you one!
We have a friendly dog that lives outside. No animals allowed in the house!
We would like to know your arrival time as soon as you know it. Should be able to accommodate almost anytime with enough notice. We tend to prefer check-ins after dark!
Kevin's friendly demeanor instantly squashed any anxieties I had arriving at his place after dark! The room I stayed in had a nice breeze, the repurposed hot air ballon curtains had a magical quality.
After talking on the porch for some time post-arrival, I expressed some interest in exploring Little Rock outside. He enthusiastically endorsed and provided directions to a local hike where another guest and I hiked the following morning. For breakfast, I was offered tea and eggs as advertised. Delicious!
A very gracious host indeed and uniquely authentic and ambitious individual.
I enjoyed staying at Kevin and Tiffany's place. They were both wonderful hosts and the room was great. Lovely quilts and comforters to stay warm! They helped me find a great cafe to do a little work and figure out a morning run route that was awesome. If you'd like to stay close to the famous Central High School this is a great place for you. Thanks Kevin and Tiffany for a great stay.
The rented room was clean and neat and bed comfortable. It was very inexpensive. Host not there on arrival but texted me the location of the key to allow me entrance. Kevin seemed a genuinely nice and forthright fellow. The neighborhood Is shabby and poor. The house itself is fronted by a weedy, neglected lawn, a dirty porch and the inside of the house is messy, dirty and untended. Tub in bathroom very dirty and off-putting. I was glad to get out of there; the house really needs to be made more presentable to make it attractive to renters, but is IS cheap.
This was a wonderful fast overnight visit - was Economic and friendly- will stay again. We opted breakfast at Root Cafe but the food smells from the Urban Homestead kitchen were dreamy and we took some eggs with us -- great quality eggs-- Wonderful folks.
Getting off the plane, I had a text saying Kevin was hurrying out of town for a funeral and would not be there to host: we could either stay or cancel. As an airbnb newbie, I had no idea how cancelling worked and we had no Plan B ready. Our repeated texts and calls were unanswered. We drove to the home where a guest we met after knocking at the side entrance helped us finally contact Kevin. He told us how to find our way in and keep the cat out.
Our room and bed were comfortable and accurately described. The bathroom was indeed down stairs--15 in all. The in-room gas radiant heaters were unexpected but helpful. Some parts of the house might have been cleaner under other circumstances. We were disappointed to miss a great-sounding free breakfast, but instead of using someone else's kitchen we took our longing for tasty, healthy food to The Root Cafe (and liked it).
Overall, this urban homestead has a rustic, earthy feel. It's not upscale, but we slept well and inexpensively. Wished we could have met Kevin and his family.

About the Host, Kevin
I grew up in Baton Rouge, LA and have traveled all over the country flying my balloon and working in various aspects of landscaping and agriculture before (recently) embarking on this home-fix-up endeavor. I am enjoying growing a good portion of my own food, living with Tiffany, and improving my two old houses and their grounds.
I enjoy eating well and learning about what other people are up to!
I have a very nice dog who lives outside.
