The space
Welcome to the Sunlight Ranch!

The Sunlight Ranch and all of the trailers located on it, are powered by solar energy allowing them to work congruent with the natural environment. Our permaculture ranch features a grey water system, rain water harvesting, a greenhouse, development methods that incorporate the re-purposing of materials, and an overall REGENERATIVE lifestyle. During your stay, we hope you learn something and are inspired by our bio-cooperative designs!

The Shasta

The 1952 Shasta is a western themed trailer that has a wooden deck/front porch and sits underneath a shade structure. It overlooks a beautiful view of the national park! This is our smallest at 28’, but the most private trailer, making it perfect fit for a romantic couple. The bedroom has a full bed perfect for a couple. The sofa bed is cozy for 2 that don’t mind snuggling but our other trailers do much better for groups larger than 3. We provide extra linens for additional guests so please specify the correct number of guests in your party. Coffee, filters, organic heavy cream, organic sugar, cooking oil and a small variety of spices are located in the trailer. Filtered water is also included via Brita Pitcher which is in the fridge. We provide bio-compatible soap and shampoo. Please be careful and try to make sure only water, mild soap, and non-whiting toothpaste goes down the drain. Our Grey water system provides life giving water to our plants and certain ingredients can be harmful to them. Sunlight Ranch is an observer of Dark Sky Association regulations, which creates the perfect stargazing experience.

Welcome to Sunlight Ranch!
*Formerly known as The Buzzards Roost, The Buzzards Roost was my mother and grandmothers place in Bouse, Arizona where I slowly through years developed a love of the desert. Then I found Joshua Tree……….

In Buck's words;
"I am an inventor/builder, with a high regard for strengthening community. I am a night sky star-gazer with a well developed love of nature and wide open undeveloped spaces.

Licensed permaculture certified builder with focus on distributed roof-top photonics solar energy, wind and battery storage - and now grid forming off grid systems , rain/storm water harvesting systems using seamless gutters, greywater and bio-filtration systems based on Mike Reynolds Earthship designs.

I was a founding member of Transition Joshua Tree Water and Power Group and I am a California Licensed General, Electrical, Solar and Plumbing Contractor.

A climber and explorer in search of a simpler less complex way of living based on stacked-function regenerative permaculture ideology.
Next stop is ultra local farming .

I love to to restore old cars, vintage furniture and circa 1950 vintage wood interior trailers. I love the arts and music, wildlife, mother nature, and grandfather sun.

Mumsie, Bucks 87 year old mother lives here on site in the rambling five addition cabin so common here in JT.Buck wears all the hats, builder, maintenance, Cleaner, Daughter Sidney sometimes assists as our booking agent and concierge and cleans to earn extra money while in school for environmental studies at UCR, Riverside. . During your stay

If you want to talk water, energy or permaculture, then I am your guy! I will do my best to try and make time to discuss solar power, permaculture, and any bio-cooperative designs. Interactions with guests are also limited, till things with the pandemic are much better.

If you are a musician, you can play at the open mics; Monday nights at Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown and Tuesdays at the Saloon in Joshua Tree. If you are an artist, just feeling the land ask us and we will give you a couple of ideas still in our pipeline and you can leave a calling card sample of your creativity on our land for future guests to enjoy. We have lots of materials to play with and the space to create.
