Laver's Loft

House - Private room · Fox Hill Road, Freeport, ME 04032, United States
Chris

The loft is probably the best value in Freeport. This is because When I have guests at Laver's Loft I usually stay at my girlfriends place and they have the whole place to themselves. I travel a great deals so I am usually not there most of the time.

The Space

Private room and bath in a cozy post and beam artist's cottage near charming Freeport Harbor, on the Harraseeket River, in near Freeport, Maine. Two plus bedrooms, cozy living room with wood stove and country kitchen, 1.5 baths with a Jacuzzi, plus an outdoor shower (seasonal), . The cottage is nestled in a quiet neighborhood about a mile from the harbor and just two miles from downtown, LL Bean and the outlets in Freeport. A sunny back deck with deck chairs and picnic table offers privacy in this quiet woodsy location. Close enough to Portland and Casco Bay for day-trips, but seemingly miles yet minutes away from the crowds. Also convenient to Brunswick and Bowdoin College. Walk down to the town landing and its working waterfront. Just a short drive to public beaches at Winslow Park and Wolf Neck on Casco Bay and watch the boats parade by.

The cottage is my home and comes fully furnished, including linens and kitchen items.

Daysails on my small sloop or trips to Admiral Peary's home on Eagle Island can be arranged.

Bring your bikes and kayaks. Great restaurants and heaps of art galleries in the area. Summer music series at LL Bean and year-round happenings in nearby Portland, Brunswick and the Maine Mid-Coast.

Guest Access

The whole house and the laundry in the basement studio/workshop.

Interaction with Guests

I usually stay at my girlfriends place or in the studio in the basement. I interact with my guests as little as possible during their stay. I travel alot so I am usually not there at all. Someone is always available should the need arise even when I am out of town.

The Neighborhood

It quiet and secluded yet less than three miles from LL Bean and the outlets in town. It's a 10 minute walk to the Harbor and a 15 minute drive to Portland. Take in all that Casco Bay has to offer! Don't miss the opportunity to take a cruise to Eagle Island with Atlantic Seal Cruises and check out Admiral Peary's Summer home (He's the guy who made it to the North Pole first). Eagle Island is a State Park only accessible by boat!

Getting around

The train comes through downtown Freeport a couple times a day. There is Taxi service as well but it's best to drive or it's an hour bike ride to Portland if you're old and fat like me.....

Other Things to Note

If you are here in the Spring, Summer or early Fall get out on the water. The Maine Coast is spectacular! I can arrange to get you out sailing or fishing if you like.

  • Our stay at Chris's home was very comfortable. He made us feel very at home, and treated us like friends. His house was tidy and clean, and it has a cozy, country cabin/cottage kind of feel. The bed was super comfortable. It is soft and "fluffy", and I usually think I prefer firm mattresses, but after two very good nights sleep I think I am changing my opinion on that. His bathroom is right next to the bedroom, and the bathtub is enormous and sparkling white with beautiful big windows looking over the woods. The separate shower is also spacious and immaculate. He also only stayed in the house one of the two nights- as he mentioned on his listing- and on the second night we had the entire house to ourselves. Chris is a great host, and his house is easy to find and only minutes from Freeport's shopping center. As he says, probably the best deal in Freeport, and a friendly, helpful, easy going host too! Thanks Chris!

  • I spent two nights in Chris's Laver's Loft and had a fantastic time! His space is super cozy and comfortable, and Chris was a great host. He made me and my two dogs feel welcome and I immediately felt at home! Chris is fun, friendly, and easy to talk to, and he has plenty of helpful suggestions for how to spend your time exploring the area. After my first night I almost didn't want to leave the house to go exploring because I felt so content hanging out in his cozy space with my dogs. I am definitely looking forward to staying at his place in the future!

About
Hi and thanks for checking out my place. A little about me, I call New England home and travel all over for work and play. I am a professional mariner and sail on tugs, tall ships and tour boats throughout New England and have sailed all over the planet. I've thrown the anchor down in Freeport and love it here, I like to share my home, as it seems happier when full of happy people (I stole this line from Debrae, she's got a great place up on Eggmoggin Reach, check it out). I spend a great deal of time at my girlfriend Pam's place up the road and it seems a waste to have my place empty so I hope you will come and stay, if the wind is right perhaps you'd like to join me for a sail.
