A shepherd closeby makes a highly appreciated cheese from his sheep milk and is willing to show you how he makes it. You can buy organic olive oil , free range eggs and chickens directly from the producers and you can ask the ladies in the nearby hamlet to prepare their fantastic lasagne for you.
The house is the ideal place to rest and enjoy the Italian life style or study and work in a group given the ample space. It is 'also an excellent starting point for excursions to ROMA (h 1,30 by car), FIRENZE ( h 2) , AREZZO (h1,30), all reachable by train from Orvieto's station, and to the historic sites of Umbria, Tuscany, Lazio (Todi, Assisi, Pienza, Montepulciano, Viterbo ...) around an hour away. In less than one hour you also find the lake of Bolsena, where you can bathe, do water sports and find inexpensive restaurants on the waterfront.
The house is decorated with family paintings - Italian, English and French - as well as objects brought back from our trips. After all this is the place where we get together as a family.

  • We had a great time at this stay. Laura met us at the house to show us all the things we needed to know. A beautiful location with a view of Orvietto off in the distance. You're in the countryside about 20 min from the hilltown's center. There's at least a week's worth of interesting places to see in the area, the Duomo, Etruscan caves, winerys, and other hill top towns.
The house is very large with many spacious rooms. With a fully equipt kitchen we cooked dinner each night after touring Umbria and Tuscany. The bathrooms were updated and clean.

  • This is the Italy that you have dreamed of or seen in the magazines and movies! Once you have done the bustling cities, come recharge with your family or friends in this large rustic house, set in the hills above Orvieto.

Seven of us stayed for five days in this large, well out-fitted stone house set in an olive grove within the rolling hills of Umbria. The 3 storey house has loads of room for larger groups (we actually lost count of the many sitting rooms and bedrooms!). There is a fully out-fitted kitchen that had all that was needed to cook up meals based on the delicious local herbs, cheeses and meats that we picked up in Orvieto, about 15 minutes away.

Some of our biggest decisions were: which tree to sit under and read a book and where to set the table for antipasti in the olive grove to get the best view of the spectacular sunsets. If you have forgotten your book, there are many to choose from in the house, plus board games to play (more if you can read Italian rules). Probably the most fun we had was making homemade pizza in the wood fired oven outside, using local cheeses, vegetables and meats.

Attractions like old Orvieto, wineries, large natural areas, olive oil tasting, Etruscan caves, historical sites, hiking are all close by when you want to venture out from the comforts of the old house.

This is a great house for large groups, out of the way and ready for those who want to get away from the bustling cities, crowds and noise, and take in the quiet countryside.

The host Laura is one of those people who cares about making your stay a wonderful experience. She waited for us to show up until late in the day, providing sparking wine, cheese and other snacks while showing us around; even though she had to get back to Rome to fly off for a family holiday. This house is special to her family and we were grateful for her letting us share this great place.

  • We recently spent four days at Laura's lovely farmhouse among the olive groves in Umbria and we did not want to leave. The view across the countryside was spectacular with beautiful Orvieto in the distance. Laura and her sister, Chantal, were charming hosts.

This farmhouse is situated off the beaten track in a quiet, serene location (approximately 15 - 20 min drive from Orvieto). Laura greeted us with a lovely bottle of wine and some basic food and the local supermarket on the outskirts of Orvieto is stocked with everything you need to prepare delicious meals to eat under the vine covered pergola at the house. Give yourself a treat one night and order a heavenly lasagne made by lovely Amina, who lives in the next hamlet - you won't regret buying this authentic dish made with all the best ingredients (right from scratch - no store bought pasta here). Take a trip to beautiful Lake Bolsena to swim and have a lovely lunch at the cute little bar on the shore (the Banana Bar).

There is no wifi at the house, but it didn't bother any of us (not even our three 'twenty somethings'), in fact one of them remarked that it made a nice change not to worry about downloading (website hidden) and emails!!!

Stay here if you want to laze the day away reading under the shady trees, spend the evening eating a huge meal prepared in the convenient kitchen and wake to the sound of the insects and birds in the morning. At night look at the stars in the velvet sky and consider yourself lucky to have happened upon this lovely family home full of photographs, books and memories collected over twenty years.
