Description

The Space

Our Bamboo Jungle room is a private room located in our 3 bedroom guest cottage. This guest cottage is separate from our main house which is uniquely connected by stairways, overhangs and decks.

Our home had a vibe of an upscale hostel, rustic "chalet".
Our property has been nicely described as "Modern Wilderness" and a "Rustic Retreat".

This is a wonderful room if you're looking for something clean, comfortable and affordable located in a desirable area just a short drive from downtown Kailua Kona.

The room is a bit on the smaller side however you have full on access to the adjoining sunroom and outdoor lanai. You actually have your own designated sofa/futon and coffee table. There is a Japanese style fabric screen that gives you an even more sense of privacy.

The sunroom has a great, open feel to it and is perfect for relaxing, reading a book or looking out to the ocean and tropical jungle view below.
The outdoor lanai is also a great space to enjoy a meal, stargaze or do morning yoga.

There is a not a closet in this room however there is a dresser with drawers for storing your clothes. There is not a TV however there is a bookshelf with lots of interesting books if you wish to take a look at.

The space has a nice high speed network provided by Hawaiian Telcom. If the phones are down for some reason (usually high winds during the winter) we have a dependable high speed cable connection that can be accessed off the main house lanai.

The shower is located outside and surrounded by wild flowers, trees, a small rock wall and cedar wall panel. Many guests have expressed the outdoor shower being a wonderful experience even after feeling a bit apprehensive about using it. It is totally private and secure.

The bathroom (toilet) is located ensuite. It has its own little room with door. The sink/vanity is located outside on the back lanai (approximately 15 steps away).

The room comfortably fits 2 people however a third guest is possible if they choose to sleep on the sofa/futon that is located in the adjacent sun room. *There is an extra charge for more than 2 guests age 16 and up.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the adjacent sun room. This sun room has a really nice view of the pacific ocean and tropical foliage below.
This sun room is a shared room with the other private room located next door however you have your own sitting area and sofa (futon) and coffee table that gives a sense of privacy in the sunroom.

The sun room also has a coffee maker, small refrigerator, toaster, microwave and induction hot plate for simple cooking.
It's easy to enjoy fruit breakfasts, toast, cereal, oatmeal, eggs, rice, etc.

This room also has access to the back lanai (deck). This is a shared area with other guests and family. This area has a teak patio table with chairs and umbrella, a BBQ grill and small sink for washing dishes, cups, etc.

Interaction with Guests

We want you to know that we are happy to see you and answer any questions you have regarding your stay or area activities.
.
The very best way to reach us is via the airbnb message thread or by texting us.

Our interaction really depends on what you prefer. We love chatting with our guests and our home is always open for you to visit and say hello when we are home. If you prefer more privacy, we completely understand and don't mind if you're just doing you're thing. :)

We own a bakery & cafe in Kona so we leave early in the mornings and get home in the early evenings.

We invite you to come to our Cafe and enjoy a complimentary delicious home made NY Bagel and cup of 100% Kona Coffee, Organic Apple Juice or Tropicana OJ. (Available to each guest, one time during your stay). Please enjoy 20% off anytime during your stay with us as well. Our cafe has GF and Vegan options too!

The Neighborhood

Our home is nested on 1.5 private acres in a beautiful, desirable area in the hills just minutes from Kona town. In fact if you're at the Kailua Kona pier and you look south, you can see our area perched on the mountainside.

We've had many people visit our property (even long time locals) that have said "wow! This spot is amazing!

Driving down the road you'll see coffee farms, banana trees and macadamia nut groves and lush tropical foliage. Our neighbors are mostly coffee growers and farmers. You don't see any other houses from our home (even though we do have neighbors on adjacent properties), yet we are conveniently located minutes from Keauhou Resort and Kailua Kona where you'll find all the modern conveniences of shopping, dining, movie theaters, entertainment, grocery stores and of course wonderful beaches, snorkeling spots and amazing island adventures.

The historic Keauhou Store is located just under a mile from our home. This adorable country/vintage store sells all kinds of snacks, drinks and even has a small lunch menu. It's a great place to sit, relax and watch life go by. Oh! And the owner, Thea, makes amazing, fresh baked cookies!

Palekana road (the road our home is on) is a great road for a morning run or evening walk. One of our neighbor's farms is a sight for Kamehameha Schools so sometimes you can hear the kids chanting in Hawaiian as they work on the land. It's amazing.

On certain nights if you're sitting outside on the lanai (deck), the beats of the Tahitian drums from the luau down at the Sheraton Resort travel up the mountain. It is so cool. Makes one feel like you're in ancient Hawaii!

Getting Around

Our home is located approximately 25-30 minutes from the Kona International Airport (depending on traffic) and 2 hours from the Hilo Airport.
Renting a car is a MUST when staying at our place and we recommend a GPS (if you don't own a smart phone). This will help you not only find our home that is privately tucked away, but will also assist you in getting around the big island in general.
The local bus service and taxi service is not recommended when staying at our home.

Other Things to Note

We have 3 dogs that live in the fenced in courtyard. They're very sweet dogs and pretty much hang out in the courtyard and play. They rarely bark. If they do, it's short and usually only when a new guest arrives, they don't like the sound of a particular vehicle or there is a wild pig in the area!

We live in Kona Coffee Country and are surrounded by nature and animal sounds. The area (and pretty much all of rural Hawaii) has it's share of wild turkeys, pheasants, coqui frogs during the rainy season (spring) and an occasional ***rooster in the neighborhood.
We do provide you with complementary ear plugs however if you are a particularly light sleeper you might want to consider staying here.

***This room in particular is not as subjected to the sounds of rooster if/when he is around.

House Rules

Aloha!

Please no cigarette or cigar smoking in any of the homes or decks.

Our house is like a mini villa with separate living spaces however are separated enough where you rarely see or hear other guests. However, we kindly request that from the hours of 10:00 pm to 8:00 am we are all extra conscious of our neighbors. (Conversations, TV's, phone conversations, etc at a lower volume.)

Hot Tub: Hours of use are 7:00 am to 10:00.

We don't have a washer and dryer on site. There is a laundromat (we use it too) in Kona called J & K Wash & Go.

Please turn off all fans, TV's and lights when you leave for the day.

Please cover or refrigerate food when not
In use: Any left food left out is a dream for ants, geckos (we actually like the geckos), and fruit flies.

Because we catch our water from the rain, please be conservative when using water (brushing teeth, showering, washing dishes).
Mahalo!
