Interaction with guests

It depends on the guests. Some of our guests like to interact a lot with us (and we love it), and others mostly like to do their own thing (yep, we love that, too!) Our goal is for a guests to be happy and comfortable during their stay at Cuisine Miguel. Feel free to ask us any questions before or during your stay with us.

Other things to note

Miguel is an excellent Chef. We usually have Sunday Dinners, kind of Family Style. We typically serve between 3-12 people. Either your own private dinner, or we may have a few more people from different places in the world join us. The cost is usually $12 USD per person, bring your own beverages. The price varies, of course, depending on the menu choice. More intimate dinners may be arranged with Miguel on other evenings of the week. Those prices usually range from about $15 pp to $25 pp, again, depending on the menu. For Sunday dinners, the first person or couple or family to book, usually makes the basic menu request: seafood, beef, pork, poultry, vegetarian..... Then, Miguel shops on Sunday morning for the freshest supply of each and makes his decision based on the initial request. Often, a typical Sunday Dinner includes all of the above. Come Hungry! Here is one of our reviews of Miguel's Sunday Dinners:

From Andy Cary:

Cuisine Miguel is a culinary experience that you will never forget and will leave you happy and more than satisfied. Each course delivers sensational flavors and will literally have you begging to know what’s in there that makes it taste so good. For anyone who meets Miguel, it’s no secret that it’s a combination of culinary creativity, impeccable attentiveness, and a warm heart that creates a memorable evening and all around good time.

There are pros and cons to this place. First of all, the location is fantastic. It's close to everything you need in Sámara and just a few steps away from the water. Miguel, Sarah and Jack are all very nice people and very helpful with tips on what to do around the area. The waterfall shower is quite nice! The cons are that it is not very clean. The kitchen smelt so bad that we tried to hold our breath while passing through. There were a few animals (dogs and cats) staying there which were very friendly but because of that, there were animal feces and pee on the floor which were eventually cleaned up. We highly recommend the following things to do in Sámara: a surf lesson with Martin at Pato's surf shop. A kayaking & snorkelling tour with Eduardo at C&C surf school.

Response from Miguel:
Hola! We are so sorry for the smells you experienced. We have one dog and one cat. They both go to the bathroom outside. As we told you, Miguel and I had to go to Nicaragua before you arrived for a couple days. Our 17 year old son Jack was here. Our friends had to go to the hospital in San Jose and asked if he could take care of their dog. Unfortunately, she did her business in the house. So sorry!!! I hope you had a nice visit here. : ) Again, thank you so much for your stay!!! : )))

Miguel & Sarah were great hosts! Very friendly & told us lots about the area. Sunday dinner is delicious! Right in the beach. The family is there if you need them, but let you sit, relax, & read without interruption. Highly recommend!

Sarah, Miguel and Jack are excellent hosts! They are quick to help with anything you might need, from offering advice on anything local to calling a cab. They also make some amazing dinners, which I highly recommend. The room is spacious with lots of storage, and the bathroom is equally roomy. There is hot water and two fans which keep it cool enough for sleeping. The bed is quite comfy as well, most of the hotel beds I've had in Costa Rica tend to be hard, but this bed was not. The wifi is also quite reliable. The location of their place is really the biggest selling feature. It is literally a minute from the beach, you can see the ocean from the patio. It is about a 7 minute walk down the beach from downtown Sámara, which makes it close, but also a bit more private. I would highly recommend staying here!

We had a great stay at this place. The beach is just awesome and it is close to the bars and city centre. Sarah and Miguel gave us a warm welcome. They gave us all necessary information and helped us with everything they could. We even could do Laundry. Please be aware that A/C is missing and it's pretty hot at night. But nevertheless, we would absolutely recommend this place and would love coming back.

Miguel, Sarah, and Jack were sweet, thoughtful, engaging hosts. Their beach location was stellar: quiet, but thoroughly immersed in their community. Plenty of room to be the traveler you'd like to be with their cozy accommodation as a base camp. They demonstrate a quiet, yet palpable, pride in their domestic life - and in the natural environment - that we found inspiring. Miguel's Sunday Dinner fed our ceviche addiction and our love of lively table talk. It was a pleasure to stay with them!

Hola! Miguel is originally from Germany. He moved to Playa Samara in 2008. Sarah has been coming to Samara since August 2011. Sarah moved here from Florida in Feb. 2013. We both LOVE it here. We have met so many wonderful people from all over the world. Miguel is a chef and guitar player. Our favorite night of the week is Sunday. That's when we have our special Sunday Dinner. It is usually for about 8 people. Miguel usually prepares a 5 course meal, and then we sit around the front porch playing guitar and talking. House Guests who wish to join in on the meal usually pitch in for groceries to cover the cost of the meal, and they bring their own beverages. We have a dog (Angel) and a cat (Flo). I'd like to say that we rescued them, but, actually, they rescued us. They are "beach pets"and typically come and go as they please. Both are very friendly and sweet. We'd love to meet you! Mi Casa es su Casa! Hasta luego!
